RIP

Omg. This is awful

This is awful.

Wow death comes in 3's...............just awful news what a bad weekend.

Just awful.

So sad, and surprising this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. It's weird it always seems to be the Cardinals.

terrible RIP

There was the relief pitcher about five years ago, Daryl Kile in the hotel room...now Taveras.

Trying to think of some other examples. Darrell Porter as well, although he was connected to a number of teams.

Well there was Nick Adenhart a few years ago. It just sucks. These kids have the world in front of them and it's all gone for them and their families in an instant.

That was closer to a decade ago. The cards also then lost another guy to DUI and that mighty have been 5 years ago.

Shocked. Just had that pinch hit HR in the seventh inning of Game 2 that helped lift St. Louis to its only victory of the NLCS . RIP.

His girlfriend died with him as well. Really made watching the WS strange tonight as it is usually a time to feel great about baseball

Such a crazy thing. I heard it on the radio while listening to the Hawks game and I just couldn't even react. As someone who enjoys following prospects, it's really upsetting to see such a promising young kid go like this. Ugh.

And Cory Lidle had that plane crash probably almost 10 years or so ago. I remember watching that on ESPN after school.

  • 3 weeks later...

A spokeswoman for the Dominican Republic's Attorney General's Office, Tessie Sanchez, said Oscar Taveras was "legally intoxicated when he crashed."

Sanchez revealed that a toxicology report showed Taveras' blood-alcohol level was five times the legal limit. Taveras and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Edilia Arvelo, were killed in a car crash on October 26 in his native Dominican Republic. Taveras was 22 years old.

For those who haven't read or don't want to read, his BAC was .287, while the legal limit in the Dominican Republic is .05. If he were drinking beer, he probably had something like 20-22 beers in a 4-5 hour stretch, and then thought it would be a good idea to drive.
