  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:44 AM) I have never understood the Jeter hate. He basically is hated, not by what he does, but because of the perception the media likes him too much. Personally, I wish he had his first ballot HOF career with the White Sox. Yup. It's ESPN's specialty.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 06:02 AM) The photobomb would be funnier if it wasn't for Phil's wife. Holy Mackerel! I saw somebody comment that with Phil's wife the smile is real, the tits aren't. On Phil, it's the exact opposite.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) He's involved in the most overrated catch of all time. You know, the one where he caught a pop up, took 27 steps and then stupidly dove into the stands face first and hit a chair. OMG WHAT A PLAY The catch Uribe made for the 2nd out in the 9th inning in 05 would be shown on every highlight reel had Jeter made it.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) I'm really concerned about the future. How do you revamp a bullpen and an entire defense? 2015 looks like another 90 loss season barring an offseason miracle. In 2004 Cotts had an ERA of 5.65 and Politte was at 4.38. In 2005 it was Cotts at 1.94 and Politte 2.00. Miracles happen in bullpens every year
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Walkoff single for Jeter...pretty awesome Buck should have walked him!
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Tonight is the first game in Jeter's career where he will play a home game with the Yankees eliminated from playoff contention, If he hadn't taken over 600 plate appearances from the two hole this season, that streak might still be intact.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) Eh, its still restrictive to 85 and all of those guys have to do things like pass class for example, so its not a free for all. Pass class? Big deal. NFL coaches have to keep their players from beating their wives AND children. Good luck with that.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) He's been amazing this year. The Twins made a great signing for once. Best K/BB ratio in MLB history this season
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) But there is risk involved there, and it can be crippling... That's true, but even with "clean" recruiting, you can take as many top guys as you want and let them sort themselves out. The NFL salary cap doesn't allow for that, not to mention the draft prevents it as well.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/5152287...5546752/photo/1 No Paulie Weird. I thought they had said Thursday, Saturday, & Sunday. Maybe his injuries acted up again.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) They just pay them legally, which is easier. Front office scouting is very similar to scouting recruits except with a MUCH smaller pool of talent and much smaller pool of competition. There is a salary cap for them to pay them legally with though. State U has no salary cap, it can throw bags of money (secretly of course) at every one of its recruits if it wants.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) I realize recruiting is a full time job, but I don't think I've heard a college coach whose jumped to the pros say that the NFL gig was less work than college. What does the NFL entail that it's more "work" than college? I'm sure game planning and scouting opponents is tougher with a bigger schedule and no Div 2 teams to play. But you spend zero time recruiting, you have a GM and front office that takes care of a lot of the personnel stuff. Your roster is smaller, no academics to worry about, you probably don't get involved in your player's personal life, like a college coach with an 18-year old. Is it just that detail and game planning are that much more important to win NFL games?
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) Anyone on Fan Duel not able to see Cousins as a choice for this week? Is it a Sunday only league?? Cousins plays tonight.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) Well, you have proof of sorts that Jones would be a fine closer. I guess I'm going to have to see it to believe it in terms of racking up dozens of saves like Reed does. Nice stats, though. Addison Reed has 31 saves. I know we are only looking at advanced stats, but cmon. Petricka ain't a 31-save guy. I'll give you he's probably the best option in our crud bullpen though. Wade Davis only has 3 saves this year, what a lousy reliever. Don't even get me started on Dellin Betances in NY, only 1 save???
  16. Let's do a separate thread. A buddy of mine is having watch parties every day from 2 AM to noon, but that's a little aggressive for me. Everyone is writing the Americans off, but match play is so different, they still have a chance. Each hole only counts as one no matter how bad you play or how well they play it.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) So just a small topic of discussion on a slow day: What do you feel happened to Eli Manning? Is he a victim of the team around him becoming worse, or do you hang all of it on Eli? In his two Super Bowl seasons, he was surgical down the stretch and really made other teams pay. Now, he seems just as likely to throw a pick or fumble as he is to get a completion. Just curious what you guys think, me and a friend had this discussion today I think his Super Bowl runs slightly overrated him as a QB, he's always been inconsistent. As the team around him has deteriorated, he has gone downhill with them.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) I realize recruiting is a full time job, but I don't think I've heard a college coach whose jumped to the pros say that the NFL gig was less work than college. At least in the NFL, your "work" is all at home. You don't need to spend the whole offseason traveling. Plus, NFL coaches aren't required to kiss the ass of alumni and boosters the way college coaches do. http://www.lebanondemocrat.com/article/sports/306036
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Same can be said for Ripken or Chipper Jones. All have not been controversial and were model players by and large. Gwynn was my all time favorite during the era but none of those guys have the rings / post season accomplishments of Jeter. What he has done has been incredible. It might be the most storied career in modern day professional sports when you consider same team, postseason highlights, etc. Coming from a Bulls fan?? Wow.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) I don't know why, but for some reason I clearly hate KC more than Detroit this year. I'd rather see KC fail. No matter how much I think about it, though, I don't have a justifiable reason to feel that way. Welcome to the club!!!
  21. Sox win 6-3, you heard it here first
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) This is still better than a whole lot of other people, and that 14 years also includes a WS loss. Those other people aren't the greatest Yankee of all time and the ultimate "winner". Yes, I'm over exaggerating because of the media hype, but the point is that after the Yankees heyday of the late 90s, they have been an above-average team, but not even the best team in the league. Surprising given the mere presence of Jeter in the clubhouse.
  23. Jameis Winston will no longer do midweek press conferences with the media so he can concentrate on academics. Right.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Olbermann right again. Two most important things about this Jeter celebration: 1. Had the Yankees not kept Jeter this year, it's very possible they signed Jhonny Peralta to play SS. I know their rotation has been decimated by injuries, but that upgrade at SS would still have them in the wild card hunt. 2. 1 World Series in the last 14 years. It's almost like the 85 Bears, Jeter's biggest accomplishments happened last century.
