  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Yost should get fired for that decision. Can't believe he brought in Ventura instead of Herrera. Personally I would have just kept Shields in, but yeah, just an awful move to bring the rookie starter right there.
  2. A closer look as to why Dunn is not in the lineup http://blog.sfgate.com/athletics/2014/09/3...to-is-catching/
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Well said. I used to rip cub fans by saying the cubs could put 9 chimps on the field and the fans would still sell the place out. Now, even cub fans are sick of losing and staying home. Sox fans have shown that if the FO puts a contender on the field, they will come out and spend some money. This is nothing new. I don't buy into the bandwagon thing, not with Sox fans. Even that's not completely true. Fall 2005 there were some very small crowds, same thing in 2008. The place was half empty most of 2012. The place seems to only fill for playoff games, that sounds like bandwagon fans to me.
  4. Stephen Vogt is playing 1b June: .343/.366/.478 July: .357/.393/.571 August: .212/.247/.376 September: .121/.237/.121 He got injured I believe, but it just seems like he had reverted back to his original self the last two months.
  5. The lack of interest in the Cubs really hurts the Sox. People in Chicago just don't care about baseball right now.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) How far can I go back? I'm guessing some of the guys from the Blake Street Bombers era were in that general area. Matt Holliday also had pretty disparate splits between home and away when he was in Colorado. Not sure it was quite that extreme, but I recall it being a major concern for people on his move to Oakland and then St. Louis. He ended up OK. Overall, I do worry more about his health than his ability to hit. Having had some time to think about it, that's probably what would drive me away from CarGo. Is it possible at all something in the air in Colorado makes players more susceptible to injury? It sounds ridiculous, but both CarGo and Tulo just can't stay healthy. Maybe it's just a coincidence their two best players are so injury-prone, I don't know?
  7. Given how much college coaches control everything about their program, I have to call BS that Hoke had no idea his starting QB had a concussion.

  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) Yeah, Abdullah is a devout Muslim and he went to his knees to pray. They are saying he was flagged for the "slide" into the pray, but I bet that's not why the official threw the flag. I'm sure it was a mistake in hindsight, but this could get very interesting if the NFL does fine him. The official rule states that “players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations or demonstrations while on the ground", and I think that why the flag was thrown. However, I don't believe it's supposed to be a penalty if you go down on your knees to pray. I just wonder if the official didn't know he was praying, saw him go to the ground and threw the flag.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 11:44 PM) Well, my opinion is the Reed trade really hurt the bullpen and knocked everything out of kilter. It would have been nice to have a proven closer, a guy capable of getting 31 saves like Reed. As bad as some say he is, I think staying in Chicago as the established closer would have helped him even more and he'd have had minimum of 31 saves for the Sox. So I do feel the Davidson blunder was very costly and big in my giving him a C. Jerk, I am not sure we are in a position to contend in 2015. I'm not in that camp. Not right now. Nobody has given me a GREAT reason to up my grade of C to B. Now ... if two moves, Abreu and Eaton were so good and I'm mistaken, then yes, I'll give him the B. I thought the bullpen and the 89 losses and horrid defense added up to a C. In answer to your question, I think he has accelerated the rebuild because of Abreu/Eaton but at this point in time the team remains an 89-loss team next season. Hopefully he has a plan, which he probably does, and we'll get to .500. Nate Jo... Oh, never mind.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Tracey Myers ‏@TramyersCSN 36m Marian Hossa was out with a lower-body issue today. Q said it's nothing serious and Hossa should be skating again tomorrow. #Blackhawks Hossa's already has a minor injury? Big surprise. So I think the Hawks still have to trade someone to get under the cap, according to Cap Geek they are $2.2 million over. I'm thinking it's most likely Leddy, Oduya, or Roszival, they all make over $2 million and will be free agents after this year. (Only Leddy will be restricted)
  12. It's not even October yet. Pitchers and catchers don't report for another 4.5 months. Not gonna take any of these comments seriously right now.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Love it. I'm not ready to write him off completely yet, but he definitely needs to sit for a while. Keep his chin up, keep working hard, and he'll get another chance. You're making a strong assumption that Orton won't excel as the starter and become the Bills starting QB for the next 7-10 years.

  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Morosi and Passan reporting Gardenhire out as manager in Minnesota. I don't know what he could have done differently with that roster.
  16. QUOTE (VAfan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) Why don't we get the 7th pick? I count only 6 teams worse than us: Boston, Minnesota, Houston, Texas, Colorado and Arizona. We're tied with Philly and the Cubs, but our record was worse than both last season, so we should win the tiebreaker. Isn't that right? Houston didn't sign their top draft pick this year, so they were awarded the #2 pick as compensation
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) Rodgers > Cutler is moot if the Bears had a better defense and healthy WRs. They let too many receivers get open for big passing plays. The Packers aren't that much better as a team than Chicago - they just had a better game result Sunday. That's the 8th consecutive time that the Packers have had a better game result with Rodgers on the field.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) We deserved to lose that game, but it easily could have gone the other way. Just got away from us, unfortunately, and I'm not sure we could afford it to with this schedule. If Jay hits Alshon in the end zone in the second quarter and we have a better camera angle on that play at the end of the half, this game is entirely different. No excuses, because we couldn't get to Rodgers, but we could have been right in this game very easily. The margin just isn't that big on the NFL, and we certainly aren't as bad as we looked today. Everything you say is right, but IMO everything just leads back to Rodgers >>>> Cutler, and there's nothing the Bears can do about that.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) At first I never would've thought Hoke would be fired in season, but starting to feel likely, especially after Kansas just did it to Weis. Kansas still owes him $7 million, that on top of the $19 million ND paid him after they let him go. $26 million to not coach, all because he lost a close game to #1 USC. I am in the wrong business
  20. Who are these guys in the Northwestern uniforms? The defense is just killing it today.
  21. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) Is there a tie-breaker game? I thought if it ended in a tie Detroit wins the division because of the head-to-head record vs. KC? In the old wild card format they skipped the tiebreaker if both teams still qualified for the playoffs. Now it's different since a wild card team can get eliminated after one game
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I think Jim Kaat said last night he had 10 postseason series where he hit over .400. If Derek Jeter was a White Sox and received the same attention, the haters here would have a different spin on his career. Well of course, then he'd have 3 career postseason appearances, not 17.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Jim Furyk is one of my favorite golfers, but the man can't buy a win in the Ryder Cup. Fixed. There's a reason he hasn't won a tournament in 4 years, he just can't seem to close the deal.
  24. The cheapest Bears/Packers tix on StubHub right now are nearly $400 each. Wow, people are crazy.
