  1. St. Louis Police released the video of the shooting of the convenience store robber yesterday. At first glance, I thought it seemed excessive, but the guy was carrying a knife, was told to stop multiple times and just kept advancing. Seemed like he wanted to die by suicide via cop shooting. You can't expect the cops to get in a fist fight with a knife wielding suspect. WARNING: Suspect gets shot and killed in the video. It's not really graphic, but it happens. http://gawker.com/st-louis-police-release-...dium=socialflow
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) Supposedly Richards bone was protruding. Awful blow to Angels. Maybe they will want to trade for Danks?
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) I'm shocked it was upheld. Logically it makes sense for it to do so, but by the letter of the rule, it doesn't make any sense, there's nothing in there that supports it. I have no idea how they got away with that. A tarp is not mechanical. Sounds like their excuse is that it was wrapped up incorrectly last time, so there was nothing the crew could have done to prevent it yesterday, therefore it's mechanical? Might be a slight bending of the rules, but I am glad to see them use common sense.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) I hope Abattacola has something to tweet about Ditka or is he ascared? Retweeted by Matt Abbatacola Schmutzie @Schmutzie_ · 14h Mike Ditka takes stupid to a new level re: Redskins - "It has nothing to do with something that happened lately." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...me-controversy- Matt Abbatacola @MattAbbatacola · 14h Da Coach = the sports talk radio gift that keeps on giving
  5. LOL, my wife met Ditka at some store opening yesterday, had I known she could have asked him about the Skins!
  6. Attention all playoff contenders: If it starts raining during an "official" game, advise your grounds crew to work as slowly and clumsily as possible. If the field becomes unplayable, you win!
  7. Given that the Giants are battling for a playoff spot, I'm sure they'll wait as long as possible to play the game. I guess according to MLB rules, you can't suspend this game and play tomorrow. Either call it official or wait it out. Same thing happened in July in New York. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlb-is...p;vkey=news_mlb
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) I've got the undefeated ACC team, the undefeated Pac 12 team and the 1 loss and undefeated SEC teams in way before a one loss Big Ten team. 3 undefeated teams? How often does that happen?
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) I don't know if a 1 loss Big 10 team is getting in over what I presume will be a couple 1 loss SEC / PAC 12 teams / FSU. I am going to presume, unless FSU loses more then 1 game, that they will be in the final 4 (with their schedule and the health of Winston pretty decent chance they lose 0 to 1 games). I can't see a Big team getting in under most scenarios, unless of course the PAC / SEC really beat each other up and a bunch of 2 loss teams emerge. That's why I mentioned the MSU/Oregon game. Given how the selection committee has emphasized strength of schedule, specifically out of conference, that's the type of game that could boost a B1G team even with a loss in a weaker overall conference. Obviously it will be tough for MSU to win, but the chance is out there.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) Big 10 should be interesting in the wake of this injury. Quite a few teams who should contend for the top spots. That said, none of the teams will contend for a NC or at least I don't expect them to. Quality of league is well behind Pac 10 and SEC. Still expect OSU to be one of the top teams, given the strengths of their defense, however, they were the only team that would have had some shot at the NC, imo, and those chances are gone, barring the injury not being as serious as all of us believe it is. If Michigan State can win at Oregon on Sept. 6, they would definitely be in the playoff talk with a conference championship, even with a loss in a weaker conference.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Butler loves playing first base and I think Hosmer might be a prima donna. No proof. Sounds like Butler is the prima donna to me.
  12. Another police-involved shooting in St. Louis, about 4-5 miles from Ferguson today. This time the victim was wielding a knife, refused to put it down and attacked the officers, who shot and killed him. http://fox2now.com/2014/08/19/officer-invo...rth-st-louis-2/
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) This is my biggest concern with bringing De Aza back, but I also don't think he is a valueless player. That's the hardest part - at what point do you just say "we'll take the stuff you're offering" instead of getting absolutely nothing? I imagine these are the kinds of offers they have for Dunn and De Aza and it's just hard to accept those when your back isn't up against the wall. Come September 1st, I honestly do not expect either De Aza or Dunn to be on the White Sox roster. We are more than halfway through August, hasn't that time hit yet? Other teams may start to lose interest or take a backup option? Especially now that one of your core OFs has returned to the lineup.
  14. What happened to the QB that subbed in for him last year, did he graduate? He seemed to be an adequate replacement.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) Here is what I don't understand. How were there all these bad reports and then it has taken this long for this information to come out. Seems like a lot of bad information started the process, followed by good info. If this info comes out 10 days ago, we don't have this situation. Again, not saying it is easy and investigations have to be done, but seems like there should have been pretty strong statements coming from the government denying reports, etc. I think they were waiting until all witnesses were interviewed to try to keep their stories legit. If a witness hears a story in the press, that could change what they think they saw.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) And seriously... every single sports owner these days is pretty much a billionaire. None of these guys made assloads of money by backing down from challenges. The fact that a guy who is an alpha male in an arena of alpha males fought to get his way shouldn't be shocking or surprising. I am honestly more surprised that most owners seemingly accepted their fates, versus fought to get "their guy" into the top position. Jerry wants the guy who is going to best protect his ~billion dollar team. Well no s***. Baseball writers who don't get that are either ignorant of what they are covering, or pretending to be stupid to write a sensationalist piece. I know which one I would vote for. Agreed. My one issue with this coverage is that the other owners have been portrayed as Robin Hood while Reinsdorf is the only one protecting his own finacial interests. It's 30 very very wealthy men in control of a pot of billions and billions of dollars.
  17. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) While I agree with you...you can't be flipping people off on the field. That's a little bit different than other things he's done. This is true. Given that you know the cameras are on you 24-7, he needs to find a more subtler way to return trash talk.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) Some notes on PFF's preseason QB scores: 1. Matt Cassel 2. Jay Cutler 3. Joe Webb 4. Blake Bortles 5. Matt Ryan ... T76. RG3 78. Johnny Manziel ... 82. Eli Manning 83. Kirk Cousins 89 qualified QBs I don't disagree that Manziel maybe overrated, but preseason scores? Really?
  19. So did Wilson's story have him in the squad car while he shot him or was he out of the vehicle? One of the supposed "facts" of the case is that Brown's body was laying 30-35 feet away from the cop car. If both of those are true, it seems like a far away distance to suddenly use lethal force when he was unarmed. And if he was charging the squad car, wouldn't that have put him at an even further distance originally?
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 08:21 AM) Still leaves an of spot for next year though. This is true, but it's just much easier to fill one spot than two. There is always a mid-range FA outfielder out there to pick up for a not heavy salary if you need to.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 07:03 AM) Avi has been the goods since he came back. I love watching him play With him & Eaton, it makes me much less interested in the De Aza & Tank talk.
  22. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) Manziel flipped off the Redskins sideline. As if he and the Browns need more media attention. The NFL is so ridiculous. Between all the bad stuff off the field, the way players are used and abused by teams, suddenly a talented kid shows a little bit of attitude and he is treated like the devil.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Welp, rumor has it Braxton Miller out for season with shoulder injury. Oh boy, making its way around the big names on Twitter. That would just be brutal for him and OSU. http://buckeyextra.dispatch.com/content/st...ury-update.html
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) Pitched well. 6 innings, 2 runs, 2 home runs. And then his bullpen proceeded to give 8 runs over the final 2 innings. He must have felt like he never left Chicago!
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) Mark should have known better, but Loria gave MB his word that he would not be traded. His agent should have known better, but I can think of 58 million reasons why he suddenly trusted Loria's word.
