Our power went out during the storm so we went to a bar nearby to watch, everyone was in to it, lots of fun. So many tears from all the kids, it's easy to forget they are barely teenagers.

Playing 3B batting 9th for the Angels today against a LHP Oops. Didn't see flavum's post earlier, carry on.

3 K's and a homer for Baez. MLB network had a graphic today, his 162 game pace was 54 homers and about 273 strikeouts.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) The White Sox are the most sentimental organization I've ever seen. They will not let go of their veterans. Konerko's understandable, and he deserves high respect, but there are others they just insist on hanging on to; or refuse to move along even though it would help the team. And it really is starting to interfere with making a serious effort to win.... And is there really any substantive difference between "he's loyal", "he's a hero" and "he's great in the clubhouse" and curses and goats? I'm glad they had to go through this with Konerko in a season where they wouldn't have contended anyway, but enough is enough of this stuff. The organization that cut Carlton Fisk the day after honoring him? Mark Buehrle and Frank Thomas finished their careers elsewhere. Jim Thome was traded for nothing so he could try to win a ring. This was a rebuilding year and there are no significant prospects being blocked by PK this year. Had either of those not been true, I bet they wouldn't have resigned him for 2014.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 06:39 AM) Yeah, I saw Romine gave up 2-3 homers even though he was throwing the ball fairly hard, it ended up being BP. Is Verlander starting today? Buck Farmer (who?) In game 1, Mr. Kate Upton in game 2.

Why the A's should trade for Adam Dunn

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) I won't disagree with that. His first season gets as big of an F as possible, but it's the clear outlier. He didn't perform as expected, but given what he did the last 3 years, I think an overall grade of a D (which is subjective based anyways) is a bit unreasonable. At worst, I guess I'd give him a C, and I am in agreement that he was a bust of a free agent prize, though he's not the worst free agent signing in Sox history, so at least there's that. The thing is, when they signed him, it wasn't about producing all 4 years. That contract length was what it took to sign him, but they wanted him to help get them over the hump in 2011 and 2012. He proceeded to have the worst season in baseball history. That's a huge part of his grade IMO. His stats this year have little bearing on his grade, whether he hit .150 or 50 homers, it's a rebuilding year and they were stuck with him. Granted the 2011 team only won 79 games, so he wasn't the sole person to blame, but that played a huge part. His overall stats may say C, but the failure of 2011 makes me lean towards D. -

QUOTE (glangon @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) It could be, but why would you option Otero for a week when Gentry only went on his rehab assignment on 18th August and Blanks went on his on 9th August? Both still have time left on their rehab assignments and no offense to Blanks or Gentry but you wouldn't send Otero down for either of them. It could be an interesting few hours ahead. Pack your bags Andy Wilkins and get to New York... Craig Gentry has been reinstated from the disabled list, so much for that hope! -
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) 7:05 PM ET, August 22, 2014 Yankee Stadium, New York, New York Starting Pitchers Chicago: Danks (9-8, 4.94 ERA) New York: Greene (3-1, 2.91 ERA) @SethLakso: In Carlos Sanchez, #WhiteSox get elite def. at 2B. Limited power, but expect him to hit around .250 & make the clubhouse a fun place to be. He doesn't have be on the 25-man roster to do that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) As a White Sox fan I have to say it seems like every single change in the CBA and draft has been set up to screw Theo and company. It is uncanny. Every single loophole they exploited in Boston is getting closed one by one. Once the international draft happens, they won't be able to overspend in LA either. I think that shows how good of a job Theo did in Boston, legally working the system to get the top talent. -

QUOTE (glangon @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) The A's have optioned Dan Otero to AAA (one of their best relievers) because he has options, they haven't announced a corresponding move, a few Oakland writers suspect that its due to an incoming player acquired through a waiver trade. Could it be Dunn? Kyle Blanks & Craig Gentry are both on rehab assignments, so it could just be one of them being called back up from the DL. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) am i missing something on this player. for what is being rumored on his signing money, is really all that great? can someone pls explain why so much money???? is he going to be the next Jose A?? I think that given the recent success of other Cuban players and the other draft/international restrictions that have been put in place, the market price has been really driven up on these free agents from Cuba.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) It hurts the Cubs and teams with Academies. At the Cubs Dominican Academy, they used to be able to have 14 and 15 years olds there. They'd get a headstart on the process of signing guys like that. It's from Bernstein's "sources", but he tweeted this Wednesday: Dan Bernstein @dan_bernstein · Aug 20 I'm told #Cubs are steamed about this new #MLB rule limiting proprietary international scouting, feeling targeted. Won't say so publicly. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) It's more "a source confirms" but CNN is reporting that Wilson did not have a fractured orbital bone. http://www.salon.com/2014/08/21/cnn_refute...red_eye_socket/ The release of "facts" from "witnesses" and "sources" in this case has been so ridiculous. I think we have run through every possible scenario.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) Just look at what position they were drafted at for why they're not nearly this disappointing. Beckham was the Sox first top 10 Draft pick in what, 15 or 20 years?

Such a bummer he never amounted to the great hitting 2B everyone thought the Sox had. The move had to be done, he wasn't gonna turn it around in Chicago.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) Thanks for breaking down the paywall. As far as I can tell, the A's already have Jaso as the lefty half of a DH platoon. I don't see it but I could be overlooking something. They mix and match so much, it's hard to completely break it down. Normally against RHP, they might have Crisp/Moss/Reddick in the outfield with Vogt at 1B and Jaso as C. That would leave the DH spot open, but some days Norris catches (he's a righty though) and Fuld plays center while Crisp DHs. Having Norris/Jaso/Vogt in the lineup all at the same time may not be ideal, while Dunn can suitably replace one of them well. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) They said it was 4 feet, it looks further. However a taser would have worked as well. From what I have read, I don't think tasers are always successful. They have to connect perfectly or they won't work, then you are left without a weapon in a knife fight.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) Just before the season started, the Angels were saying they were pretty much at their payroll cap so Danks to LAA is not really an option. To those clamoring to trade Danks. Ask your self, if Danks was on another team would you want the Sox to trade for him and take on that contract? I know I wouldn't. I would love to see him gone but I accept he doesn't have the value many had hoped for and that contract is what really hurts. I'm hoping that maybe some team will take a chance on trading for him this off season but I stress, hope, not counting on. Danks is with Sox and people need to accept it because complaining won't make any difference. If the Sox were in a heated battle to avoid the WC play-in game and the Sox ace had a bone protruding through his leg, I might think about it, yes. -
To not mix up the NFL thread with fantasy talk, post all fantasy football comments/questions/complaints here. If you just drafted the most awesome team, brag about it here. If you are pissed at a pothead running back on your team getting suspended, b**** about it here. If you can't seem to answer the question, "Do I start Jay Cutler or Peyton Manning", ask it in this thread.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:03 AM) http://online.wsj.com/articles/why-wrigley...o?mod=yahoo_itp On Why Cubs Attendance Is Falling...Fans Actually Expect Winning Baseball for a Change That's just an awful article. The author completely ignores that every major attendance spike of the past 30 years coincided with a Cubs playoff appearance. Attendance reached an all-time high in 2008 because the team had the best record in the entire National League. Do people attend Cubs games just for the Wrigley experience? Of course. But that ballpark won't fill if the team completely sucks for years on end.
