  1. Wait a second. I thought he was just an innocent kid minding his business waiting for college to start? (And stop, I'm not justifying shooting an unarmed person with their hands up. If that's what actually happened, the cop should be punished. Just funny how these details are conveniently left out)
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Now that the state police have taken over for the Call of Duty LARPing cops, the atmosphere is completely changed. Last night still had a shooting, assault, armed robbery, 3 police cars damaged, 3 police officers injured from rocks thrown, a cameraman beat up by a protester.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) With technology like social media, MLBtv/Extra Innings, and Soxtalk, it would be very easy for me to remain a Sox fan. The problem is that those cost money. Right now I can watch Sox games for free.
  4. Absolutely not. I'd still follow baseball, but mostly for fantasy & gambling purposes only. Eventually I'd probably make my way to Brewers fandom.
  5. Maybe the Machado injury can make Baltimore interested in Dunn. He was a righty, but they had Chris Davis playing 3B again last night, so maybe they can use LHB in the DH/1B spot. Cruz/Pearce/Delmon are all righties. Looking at the other contenders: Toronto: Lind, E5 coming back soon Yankees: Tex, Beltran can still only DH KC: Hosmer is coming back soon, no room with him, Butler & Willingham Detroit: Victor Martinez Oakland: More in need of a RHB, not a lefty Angels: Maybe? Brennan Boesch did just DH twice, but I think they like to give Pujols/Trout/Hamilton rest in the spot Seattle: Just traded for Morales In the NL maybe the Brewers could use him, but Lucroy plays a lot of first base and Reynolds is the same player as Dunn, just a righty. Or the Giants could be interested if Belt's concussion symptoms are serious. Either way, given Dunn's positional limitations, there really don't seem to be that many places he could be traded.
  6. I have gotten so tired of Hawk the last few years and like the writer, I too have a young daughter. That being said, I am having a really hard time finding any issue or getting upset with Hawk's comment.

  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) After Lauren Bacall died yesterday, all of the vogue pioneers that madonna named in the song "Vogue" are now deceased How many times a day do you listen to that song to know all those names?
  9. St. Louis County Police have been relieved of their duties in Ferguson
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 08:11 AM) With all of the talk about the blocking rule and Ventura in this thread, i think it is time to really appreciate how bad Belisario is. I dont even understand how a guy with movement and velocity like he does is so bad. I'm never one to be all "DFA that bum, now!", but seriously Rick, DFA THAT BUM NOW!
  11. greg: I can't believe Rick Hahn didn't have a replacement closer in place after trading Addison Reed Soxtalk: Actually, Hahn thought Nate Jones was a more than suitable replacement. Unfortunately, he succumbed to two major injuries and only faced four batters this year. greg: Nate Jones is a bum, he's not a closer! Rinse and repeat.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) Tulo is out for the rest of the season, will have labral repair surgery on his hip http://deadspin.com/troy-tulowitzki-to-hav...gery-1621326905 That guy is just star crossed, he has had so many injuries Given how often CarGo gets injured too, maybe there is something in the air up there?
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Nah, police reaction to protests often follows this same script. Really? Please refresh my memory, I don't remember any police reaction this severe, at least not in this country recently.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Telling the media to leave is telling everyone things. There has been pretty much no investigation on the murder. Didn't the FBI start an investigation on the shooting?
  15. Something has to be going on that the public doesn't know about it. Either the Ferguson PD is so concerned about hiding stuff they are acting so violent, or these "peaceful" protesters are causing more trouble than being reported. I'm not picking a side but there seems to be a puzzle piece missing in all of this. Especially given how relatively quiet the national media has been about this.
  16. In other news, Venric Mark will transfer to play "closer to home" after being suspended, and NW's #1 receiver Christian Jones is out for the year with a knee injury. NW could still probably put up 40 on Illinois's defense, but the battle to be Chicago's B1G team just got tighter.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) I like how Monday and Thursday don't qualify as days off for you. It is only when he is not in the lineup that he actually gets better physically and mentally. Despite the fact that we both know that he will still come to the park and get all of his work in just like any normal day, but merely not play in the game. The guy may be tired, but he isn't hurt, and he is learning what a 162 game grind is like on the fly. His time on the DL skewers the numbers, but why can't you teach him what a 150 game grind is like? Then next year he will be more prepared for 162 games. I know he's not a pitcher where his arm needs to adapt to innings limits, but he can adapt to the grind over the course of 2 years, nobody is contending this year.
  18. I'm confused. Addison Reed would have this team in playoff contention, yet without him alone it's one of the worst teams in the league?
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) So Dorial Green-Beckham might be eligible at OU this year. That is f***ing disgusting. I hope he blows out both knees. Had Missouri kept him on the team the media would have destroyed them, but since OU is giving him a "second chance" it's OK. (And this coming from an Illinois fan)
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) I literally have to turn my body to the left just to try and get it on the fairway. I played with a guy once with the same problem. He was a lefty and instead of fixing the problem, he would just aim 45 degrees to the right of the fairway, just grip it and rip it. It was ridiculous to watch. We played a course where one hole was next to a neighborhood and it looked like he was aiming at a house.
  21. Yu Darvish to the DL with elbow inflammation. I guess if you are the Rangers, you might as well have everybody injured in the same season and get the #1 pick.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) He was off Monday and off tomorrow. And it's fairly common to sit a guy before an off day so he gets two full days of rest, but I guess the Sox playoff hopes depend on every single game so Abreu must play.
  23. I can't believe people think it's that crazy to want one day off for Abreu when he looks exhausted and they are in a NL park. What better time to do it. Even Miggy had a day off last week.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Ok...let's think it through... Let's take a look at some of Els' stats...Ernie is 181st on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy. He hits 53.52% of his drives in the fairway. So the odds of him hitting 2 balls in the fairway is slightly more than 1 in 4 (26.76 %). So on 3 out of every 4 holes basically, he's starting from the rough. Granted, he averages 290.9 yards a drive, but he's starting from the rough. Ernie hits 60.85 % of his greens in regulation. I'm fairly certain this % decreases when he is in the rough versus the fairway, but not assuming where his ball is, he is only going to hit the green in regulation on 6 out of every 10 shots. So the odds of him hitting the green with both balls are not great...he will do it about 30% of the time. When Ernie does miss the green, he is fairly decent...his average proximity he gets the ball to the hole from around the green is 6 feet 11 inches. If he was to hit it in the sand, his sand save % is just under 50. So the odds of doing that on two shots is about 25%. I don't have the exact percentage in front of me, but the average pro makes about 50% of his 8 footers. For 7 footers, it is undoubtedly higher, maybe 55%. To make two in a row, that number might be more like 27.5%. So you start to see how difficult it is for a pro to make a birdie....it is incredibly difficult...and it becomes fairly easy for him to make bogeys. The 90 golfer also doesn't play in more difficult courses set up for the PGA Tour in front of thousands of spectators like Ernie does. Given the need for Ernie to make both putts, I think the 50/50 split and 78 average sounds right though. Each time he has to pick the further ball on the green, then make both putts, that's a big difference there.
