Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
LittleHurt05 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I can't really understand why that kid would be dumb enough to go confront these cars moving so fast. It seems hard to prove he tried to hit the kid, but I bet these guys have way more control of their cars than we know. Stewart said he is still gonna race today, can't imagine NASCAR lets that happen. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) What a day at the PGA Championship! Quite the leaderboard, tomorrow should be fun. We have a 11:30 tee time, should make it home in time to watch the end.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Its almost Ozzie like with the whole need for a speed guy that has to lead off no matter how bad he is. Brings me back to the Wise, Pierre, etc. days. It's only 219 ABs, but the guy has a career OPS of .465. He should not see above the 9 spot until he proves he is even semi capable of hitting MLB pitching. -

Tyler Flowers has the 3rd best batting average in the entire lineup right now. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) The offense has just disappeared. Abreu is 4 for his last 25, Eaton ran into a wall, Dunn hasn't hit a homer in 10 days, there never was much more offense on this roster. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) KCR just 1.5 GB of DET? Man, that'd be awesome if the Tigers don't even make the playoffs with the best ESPN rotation ever As much as I hate Detroit, I gotta root for KC to miss the playoffs for the 29th straight year. Given their prospects, they should have won two World Series by now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) He's just stealing playing time from guys who need it for the future. Really disappointed in the lack of urgency by the club to shake it up. That's one of the positions where the Sox actually do have talent too. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) If I had to pick one, I'm going with Bryant. In person he just puts on a show. Yeah, I'm no prospect guy, but it seems like he's the real deal for sure. Ryan Braun a good comparison? (Stats-wise. not PED-wise) Houston really f***ed up the last two drafts. They would look a whole lot better with Bryant & Rodon as opposed to Appel & nobody.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) He's a better hitter than Leury Garcia, better than Beckham. He's not the worst hitter on the team by a long shot. Who would you rather see bat the final six weeks? Paulie or Dunn? If I could pay my 60 bucks and go to a Sox game in a halfway decent seat in September, it would be an easy answer: Paul Konerko. That's because you love Paul Konerko and hate Adam Dunn. If you wanted to see the best hitters hit, then you would want Konerko against lefties and Dunn against righties.

It's about that time of the year again...
LittleHurt05 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ideally, the core players of the future will keep improving and playing well, while the guys who aren't coming back move us up in the draft order. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) You know? I really hesitate on Baez. The power is extremely legit but the flaws are very deep. Well I stand corrected, but I don't what non-Rodon Sox prospect you would prefer over him.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Why though? It doesn't make any sense. Do you enjoy seeing guys who are a shell of what they once were flailing at pitches and grounding out weakly to the SS? By all accounts Wilkins will do the exact same. I was actually against the Konerko signing from day one, usually don't care for the nostalgic stuff. At this point though, if he's not blocking anyone important and Dunn doesn't need to be showcased, let him have a few last games in the lineup, maybe he'll have a special moment to remember.
-
I know little about Andy Wilkins, but I have zero interest in seeing him take major league at bats. As long as he doesn't take away at bats from Abreu, which he hasn't, I have no problem with Konerko seeing a lot of playing time in September.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) Haha that's how I feel every time I read this thread. The White Sox would trade any prospect in the system other than Rodon for Baez. Not even a question. Has anybody ever said differently?

White Sox PR...float idea Rodon could be up in Sept.
LittleHurt05 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is it possible that Baez's success led the Sox to have a beat writer "leak" a Rodon report today? Absolutely. Is there any way that Baez's success will lead to the Sox calling up Rodon earlier than planned? Absolutely not. From day one it's been talked about Rodon possibly being ready to play in the majors in 2014. And if he's not ready Hahn knows better than to call him up for publicity and mess with a young arm. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) We'll go back to 2008, because 2006 would paint an even more depressing picture for the Sox. Cubs....3,300,000 White Sox....2,500,000 2014 paces Cubs...2,650,000 (20% decrease from 2008) White Sox....1,724,166 (31% decrease from 2008) The Cubs have actually lost fewer fans, and certainly a much lower percentage of fans. If you go back to 2006, it's a 41.6% loss, which is mind-blowing. That's more than double the Cubs' loss percentage-wise, and that's with the Cubs in their 4th year of rebuilding already, not first or second like the Sox. And those numbers can be turned around in a heartbeat, unlike with the White Sox, where only a deep playoff run would set them up for 2-2.25 million in attendance again. What's so depressing about this? The Cubs have more fans and along with Wrigley Field are more appealing to the casual fan that the Sox are. The sky is also blue.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) I still struggle to believe that Billy Beane wouldn't have $4 million to spend for the rest of this season by claiming Adam Dunn, especially after they just removed a middle of the order, high power, high strikeout bat in Cespedes. Looking at their roster, I think they are more in need of RH bat, not a lefty bat.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) I would say it's the exact opposite of that, as the window might have been pushed up due to the incredible progress of their top minor league guys. Also, I'm sure they are thrilled that Lester didn't extend with the Red Sox. I'd believe that if they didn't just trade Samardzija for a prospect who plays the same position as Castro and Baez. That tells me they aren't going for it in 2015. Plus, don't you read Bill Simmons, it's a lock Lester re-signs with Boston next year! (That was a joke towards Simmons)

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
LittleHurt05 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) At the very minimum, he should talk to the other manager and ask if they'll take it easy on them. I mean, how hard is that? "Hey throw us a few meatballs and we'll do the same (crosses fingers)" Problem is, the Sox have been throwing them meatballs either way, so it's not easy to convince the other manager to do the same. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) Hearing on the radio this morning that Ravens fans cheered for Ray Rice last night during their pre-season game. It makes me sad that we, as a society, can ignore some terrible crimes simply because the criminal excels at a sport. Before the game live on TV, Sal Paolantonio asked him what his wife's final words of encouragement were before the game. http://deadspin.com/espn-asks-ray-rice-wha...oura-1618054553 -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 08:25 AM) Unless something new has happened, all they've done is put a claim in on him. That means absolutely nothing. Buster Olney tweeted today that the odds of them working out a deal are just as likely as Pete Rose being named the next commissioner.
