QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) He got arrested again. Assault. In Canada. Once again, Rob Ford is somehow getting overshadowed.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) I can't wait to forget this season. Too bad it's crafts send off year. Sorry dude, we know how it feels. f***ing Penn State. At least Taylor Battle is gone. -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) It's a great idea to travel if you can. I just finished studying in September and have been travelling a lot since then. Once I start working it will be a lot more difficult, so I just want to see the world a bit while I can. So far I've just stuck to Europe with Croatia (Dubrovnik/Plitvice National Park/Split), Paris, Iceland (Reykjavik/Southern Iceland), Czech Republic (Prague/Cesky Krumlov), Austria (Hallstatt/Salzburg/Vienna), Amsterdam, Belgium (Brussels/Bruges/Ghent/Antwerp) Barcelona, Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye, Swedish Lapland (Kiruna/Abisko + Stockholm) and Norway (Tromsø). Next I will be off to Thailand on Thurday. Just got my visa today that will allow me to stay for 60 days and I think I can extend for 30 days on top of that once I'm out there. It will be my 3rd time to Thailand and I have lots of friends there in Bangkok who I will stay with, but I hope to travel out to Myanmar or Laos/Cambodia as I have not had the chance to do that yet. Sweden and Norway were both northern lights hunting trips, which were amazing. We got incredibly lucky and managed to see the lights numerous times. It's quite a moving experience and something that I would highly recommend. Here's one of my photos of the lights in Tromsø: http://imageshack.com/a/img138/2496/jxhj.jpg That's it? Jeez, live a little.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Antti Raanta Ray Emery other replacement like goalies that don't cost $36 million over 6 years Tim Thomas (And that would be one less player you have to bring to the White House )

A complete roundup of idiotic David Price trade proposals
LittleHurt05 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) But that was mostly based on the overrating or overvaluing of Alexei Ramirez and/or Rios, right? Yes, this is true, misread the first post. That was a case of overvaluing their MLB players' trade value. I don't follow prospects at all, but this board has taught me that every Sox prospect always sucks. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) I meant out-out, not the most direct route to your insufferable twin siblings in BC and Oregon. But I'm glad you've been living in Seattle at least long enough to know what I-5 is. At least Soxtalk's only true DIEHARD12THMANTOTHECORE Seahawks fan may finally get to enjoy what he's been waiting for all his life. Point, Duke.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) Between this, nothing about Stanton and the ESPN guys say every fan base overrates their own prospects, except for the Sox, I'd like to think we have a more realistic take on things compared to others. But really it is probably just the extreme pessimism. I disagree, do you remember the Pirates & Cardinals trade rumor threads last season? Everyone was sure the Sox would wipe out both teams' minor league systems at the trade deadline. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:56 AM) Gee. What a surprise. He's Bryan Bickell. Maybe he'll show up in the playoffs. Not exactly a stellar offseason for Bowman between the Bickell & Crawford deals.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 06:48 AM) So I've been in Seattle for a day and a half now (I leave in about 45 minutes), I don't think I've ever wanted to see a team lose a Super Bowl so badly. They're usually pretty bad here, but it's out of control now. Mt Rainier, can you hurry up and explode already? Careful, they are the best and loudest fans in the whole wide world. Just ask them, they will happily tell you. Or don't, they will still tell you.

Ohio State assistant coach Tom Herman has been stuck on an Atlanta highway for 17 hours, has traveled 1.5 miles in the last 10 hours. https://mobile.twitter.com/CoachTomHerman

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Atlanta has succumbed. It's been pouring snow for 2 hours now. It's accumulating on the ground. The roads are slick. I've made it home but only have enough food to survive a week. Hopefully our heat stays on. I'll keep you all posted. I have a few Facebook friends in Birmingham, it's mayhem out there. Cars stranded on the highway, kids forced to spend the night at schools, I think they got two whole inches of snow!

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) I wonder if maybe he isn't a little banged up or something. Even the games he's been playing he's only been getting 8-9 minutes a game. He's back in the lineup tonight. No better time to get some confidence back than against the lowly Flames.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) Damn, 38-14 free throw advantage for Iowa. Typical Illini fan always complaining about the refs -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) You simultaneously want us to add expensive free agents and dump our top contributors at any cost. He's the reality: Sox fans will show up when we win, and won't show up when we lose. I don't care it's the goddamn Teletubbies on the roster -- attendance will correlate positively with our chances to make the playoffs. Exactly. It has proven to be a very fair weather fanbase, more so than others. As excited as this board may be about these young players, it won't show in the seats until they make noise in the standings.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) If that is the biggest problem the White Sox have in 2014, a lot of people are going to winning awards with the organization. I'm just gonna keep using that one on my wife. "If that's the biggest problem we face this year, we have a great marriage going on." And hopefully I can keep ignoring the problem then.

Polar Vortex 2.0 in Chicago was much weaker than the original.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) This. Keppinger is the most likely guy to get moved to a team in Spring Training that just suffered a long-term injury to an infielder. He's a stopgap no matter how you look at it, and the absolute best we can expect is some salary relief and MAYBE a live arm. And if no team needs him as an injury replacement, then you are stuck with him & Konerko wasting an extra roster spot.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) If you ask the Packers, they'd probably say they have a benefit from hosting in single digits. Haven't the Bears said that about cold weather Bears football? When you can control luck or fluke, I'd rather control it and not have it be part of the game. They keep losing those single digit temp games, so any benefit hasn't helped. And anybody that talks about "Bear weather" is a meathead, including Lovie Smith. Cold weather doesn't help them at all. NBA teams play all 82 regular season games & all playoff games in indoor arenas, not one on an outdoor playground. That's not even remotely similar to NFL teams playing in an outdoor stadium that has already hosted 16 regular season games this year.

Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize
LittleHurt05 replied to StrangeSox's topic in The Filibuster
Good for them. College football & basketball have become have become such financial giants, you know something like this would come eventually. At the big programs, they stopped being student-athletes a while ago. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) There's much more that goes into picking a Super Bowl location than just the weather. Green Bay, for example, could never have a Super Bowl simply due to the lack of accomidations. People would end having to stay as far away as Milwaukee. Yeah, I realize that. Chicago's seating capacity is also too small to host one. The point I was trying to make was that playoff games can be held in all types of conditions, I don't see why the Super Bowl is suddenly off-limits from that, unless they make one permanent host. (like the Rose Bowl)

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) I know I'm in the minority here but I disagree. Any players can play well in a sterile controlled environment. I like to see the best players over come the adversity and prove they can adapt to win. While the quarterback is the most important player, can he lead the team to a win in adverse conditions. I like to see do things they aren't normally asked to do and see if they are great players or just someone who can operate when things are good. This is just my opinion and preference of what I like to see. I know most people disagree but it's just a preference. Agreed. Also, they have to adapt to different conditions every week throughout the season. Whether it be indoors/outdoors, grass/turf, heat/cold, rain/snow, etc., every week in the NFL leads to varying playing conditions. It's not like the NBA suddenly holding the NBA Finals at Rucker Park after the entire season being playing indoors in arenas.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Control the weather there too, if you'd like. It'd make for better football. And your answer is, as if you couldn't figure this out, one team earned home field advantage there, and the Super Bowl is always a neutral site game. When you can control weather and field conditions and fan environment, you should, as it's better football. Bad weather isn't a home field advantage. The Packers see zero benefit from hosting a single-digit temperature playoff game. A better team could lose early in the playoffs because of a "fluke" or luck caused by the weather, it's part of the game. If they are so adamant about only NFL stadiums hosting Super Bowls, then let every city host it. If the conditions are good enough for every other playoff game, they should be for the Super Bowl.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) But an awful, flukey, luck reliant game. Not how I prefer the most important game to be played. I prefer good football. But then why is it OK for the NFC/AFC championship games and the rest of the playoffs to be played in s***ty conditions?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 08:16 AM) Seriously, what would you expect someone to offer for Keppinger now and how do you think it would be different if they didn't have Davidson? The Sox aren't going to release him. Guys who can't run or field and have .600 OPSs and are owed $8 million generally bring you back some guy in A ball who if everything went right would be a poor man's Dylan Axelrod, even if you eat most of the contract. So then he's not getting traded? By that logic, trade and DFA are essentialy the exact same thing.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 07:50 AM) I think if any team really wants Keppinger, the offers won't change. I think most GMs think of their roster before trying to screw another GM. It wasn't like Jeff Keppinger was going to bring back anything of use anyway. After thinking of their own roster, I would hope a GM says, "Hey, that roster is a clusterf***, maybe I can offer them less for that guy, or I will just wait til they DFA him."
