  1. I imagine it went down similar to Milton in Office Space. They kept moving Harold's locker closer to the exit until he was gone, but he was just too quiet and soft-spoken to say anything about it. He might still be in the parking lot thinking he has a job.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:13 AM) I don't know, not sure the Broncos feel a pinch for offensive talent. That was the closest match I found, but then again, all offensive talent looks better around Peyton Manning.
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) With the receiving core that Jay has, he most certainly needs to put up those types of numbers. I reckon the Bears have the best 1-2-3 punch of receivers in the NFL! Is there any team in the NFL that would not give up their top RB, WR1 & WR2, & TE1 for the Bears' four? I'm saying straight up all four players, no substitutions.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) Illinois was a pretty darn good offensive team this year. And Beckman has always been a defensive coach. His offensive coordinator was the only one who earned their paycheck.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) I don't follow Illinois football closely enough but firing any coach after 2 seasons just doesn't sound like a smart idea. Even if that coach has already proven to be an incompetent buffoon?
  6. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) No where to play Smoak. He could back up Dunn.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Ruggiano was terrible last year and is going to be 32 next year. His amazing 2012 was aided by a .401 BABIP. That came crashing down last year, down to .260. He's career BABIP is .310, so I think you can probably expect his career splits - .251/.315/.432. And again, he's 32 and the Marlins are terrible, so if they can get a guy in Bogusevic who is younger in general, they may as well try it. I like Bogusevic's power too. Frankly, I think it's just a fair trade, maybe slightly favoring the Marlins. It's nice for the Cubs because they picked up Bogusevic for nothing. Ruggiano is 32? I had no idea, figured he was mid 20s. I retract my earlier statement.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Nice trade for the Cubs getting Ruggiano for Bogusevic Unless Bogusevic is better than he has shown, that does seem like a steal for the Cubs.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) Right, but you still have to make it back to the bag even if you jar the ball loose, and your momentum is going to carry you several feet past. Doesn't matter at home how far past the plate your momentum takes you--that's why it's different. I've seen several home plate collisions where the runner misses the plate while running into the catcher. Then, while the catcher is writhing in pain without the ball, the runner comes back and touches home.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) Because at 2nd and 3rd base, you can be tagged out if you overrun the base, which is likely if you barrel into the defender. Not if he drops the ball after you take him out. Isn't that the whole point of barrelling into the defender?
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) Stockpiling Cubans. Now we know why Obama was shaking Castro's hand at the funeral. It's all part of a master plan.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) I'm saying it doesn't matter in either case. Injuries can happen on any play or even in practice shagging fly balls. Should baseball ban head first sliding? I've seen more injuries there then in home plate collisions. Why take out something that's been a part of baseball (that anyone whose played baseball growing up) for centuries because of two freak accidents to young catchers as you said. Maybe I don't understand it.. (your talking to a guy whose still not a fan of instant replay though so I'm bias, and before any of the noobs jump on me, I'm not an old timer like Walsh, Yasny, Jim, Tex etc. here.) A freak injury is when you tear your ACL shagging fly balls. A freak injury is when you slide and your foot gets caught. It's not a freak injury when a catcher is trying to catch a ball while someone runs into him at full speed from a different direction. You've seen more injuries in head first sliding because that happens multiple times a game, home plate collisions are much more rare. If it's such an integral part of the game, why don't they allow collisions at 2nd & 3rd base?
  13. Those parents are gonna be facing quite the civil suit
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 07:02 AM) I firmly believe baseball is one of the rare sports that most of the rules are best left alone. Your citing two catchers in today's game whereas many catchers in the past have had their careers altered one way or another due to a number of instances. (funny seeing the Rose quote, although I agree with him, where Ray Fosse was never the same after his collision with Pistol Pete) Injuries happen, it's part of the game. Any number of freak accidents can screw up a player's career anyways. That's what makes this game so great and why guys like Ripkin Jr. and guys before him do amazing things in that regard. So because catchers in the past had their careers ruined by home plate collisions, it would ruin the integrity of the game if present day catchers weren't allowed to face the same fate?
  15. Such an obvious decision. Two of the best young catchers in the game missed a lot of games because of home plate collisions, really no need for them.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) You have a very important decision to make regarding Cutler and next year. Wouldn't it make sense to play your (as of now) franchise QB when he's healthy to help you make that decision? He just better be 110% healthy. (Insert D Rose joke here)
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Bartolo Colon somehow keeps getting paid. It pays to juice. ..
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) I actually like Jersey Mikes. One right by my new place that I frequent. Agreed. They just opened one by me, good stuff. I love that the meat is freshly cut.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) If posting anything AJ does that is a nice gesture opens the floodgates to people who have never even met him saying how awful he is based on what they read on the internet, and then totally dismissing anything positive about him on the same internet, you are correct. Pretty much. I don't see anyone else getting praised for simply selecting a jersey number.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Yeah. I actually felt the same way about Santo. If you are going to vote for him when he is dead, you might as well let him enjoy it while he is alive. Nothing regarding his worthiness will have changed. With all of Santo's whining, he didn't deserve to get in while he was alive.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) It opened the flood gates. I'd say starting such a thread opened the floodgates.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) Evolved? It was post #3. When did my post call him an asshole? It laughed at the notion that choosing a jersey number makes someone a class act.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) Tim Banks will be back as Illinois defensive coordinator. Lololololololol So that's basically a public admission that "We are a basketball school, football success does not matter", right?
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Looks like Shannahan is benching RG III for Cousins this weekend. No health issues. I thought they are claiming it's strictly for health issues. That he was never 100% this season and he is getting sacked so much they don't want to risk further injury.
