Hilton Magic strikes again... Although they lose points for kids rushing the court. They were favored and it wasn't even a buzzer beater. -
White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) Flowers value offensively appears likely to only be his power. The walks he put up in the minors have vanished. He could lose 25 pounds and not come close to hitting his weight. But, he has shown he is a decent back up which has value. No one really knows how well Phegley can hit, not even considering how he would be able to hit if he were a guy not playing regularly. Sporatic ABs don't seem to matter to Flowers. If I were the GM, if I am acquiring a legit starting catcher, Flowers is the guy I keep. If it is another part time guy, Phegley is the guy I would keep around if someone had to go. Never thought about it that way, but I agree. Flowers could always run into a few pitches, but you can't trust him everyday. Phegley still may have some chance of being an everyday guy. -

Omar Infante to KC, 4 years, $30 million. I am sure the advanced stats will say it makes sense, but that seems like a lot of cash for Omar freaking Infante. -
Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 08:43 AM) Jake Peavy---Cy Young award winner, considered one of the better pitchers in baseball---------------shut up and pitch. Adam Eaton--AAA star, hasn't accomplished much on the major league level-----------------------you have to love his confidence. LOL. And if Eaton constantly gets injured and sucks against the Sox top competitor, we will tell him to shut up too. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) That's a ton of money for a LOOGY who isn't even that good. I thought he was decent? Last two seasons, lefties had OPS of .665 & .650 against. I'm not justifying the contract, but I remember thinking he wasn't that bad. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 08:27 AM) The guy "helping" people with cabs on madison st after hawks games has taken a BB in the leg from me. I also run into the big guy with a cane, he cracks me up. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) A few of the bars I worked at, guys would come off the street and ask to provide that service. Our dumb GM always thought it "classed" up the place. Bulls***. All it did was crowd the bathroom. Haven't been up there in a while, but they even started doing that "service" in all the Wrigleyville bars, even Sluggers and their tiny ass bathrooms. Awful.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) Going away from the Illinois discussion for a second... I'll go on record and say that I completely think Winston raped the victim and I can't believe he wasn't charged with anything. This whole thing stinks. I feel like I'm watching a future 30 for 30 episode while it's happening. How FSU and the authorities were able to cover up and keep their Heisman QB eligible so they could go on to win a national championship. Between the awkward, laughing press conference, the piece Rock put in here, and now listening to "the victim's" attorney's press conference - there's way too much smoke here. I can't help but feel that this is a giant cover-up. This went away way too quickly, and there's way too many inconsistencies and oddities here. Interesting read from a female rape victim who has worked in the court system: http://aeryssports.com/jameis-winston-rape/ -

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 08:23 AM) Beckman's buffoonery in year 1 has nothing to do with year 2. The team improved in Year 2, significantly. Here's the thing. I could have been on board with firing Beckman last year. The level of incompetence on the sidelines (running over officials, the dip, etc.) showed a guy that was absolutely out of his element. He was better this year. The team was better this year. The defense in the Penn State game showed a ton of heart and pride (only allowed 17 points and made a number of huge stops). The message you are sending if you fire Beckman after the team was noticeably better is... not good... to the rest of the coaching world. There are some interesting JUCOs coming in next year and, of course, Lunt gets the keys to the offense. I'm actually looking forward to Illinois football next year. If they win games, that will answer the recruiting questions about Beckman's job security. If they don't, or if they step back, there are grounds to let him go. What about the Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State, & Northwestern games? Is it good to allow 200 rushing yards to 5 different players? -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) I think bathroom attendants are worse than the bums that think you need help calling for a cab, but it's sure close. I absolutely loathe walking into a public bathroom and seeing an attendant. #firstworldproblems

So I guess we shouldn't hand the Broncos a free trip to the Super Bowl after all. Good job by the Chargers of playing keep away from #18.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 03:58 PM) Rich Gannon was a completely mediocre nobody until he went to Oakland at age 33 and began playing under Trestman. Pre-Trestman, Gannon never had more than 16 TDs (he also had 16 INT that year). Never more than 2300 yards passing. Gannon threw 24, 28, 27, and 26 TDs in his first 4 years with Trestman and became a 4 time pro-bowler and won 2 MVPs. Averaged 3947 yards those 4 seasons too. Trestman got to Oakland in 2001 as QB coach and became offensive coordinator in 2002. Gannon made the Pro Bowl in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. He became a Pro Bowl quarterback under Jon Gruden, and kept it up for two more years when Trestman was there.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) He played in, nay, WON the AFC Championship, and was then replaced by Tom Brady in the Superbowl. Brady started the AFC Championship game, sprained his MCL (Cutler!), then Bledsoe played the remainder of the game. Brady then started the Super Bowl.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Kurt Warner. Vermeil was in tears, actually crying about Trent Green getting hurt the last preseason game. Warner had thrown 4 passes in the NFL. Super Bowl. That was a season-ending injury to Green.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) When did AJ get signed? December 4th. What's impressive is that right after he signed, he donated both kidneys to sick children and saved 10 puppies from a house fire , all while travelling to the Phillipines to bring relief supplies to the typhoon victims. And he did all this while wearing a #40 jersey in honor of the Hawk (because his #12 jersey was at the cleaners). -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) And a lot of people wanted to unload him at the time because of it. That would have been a beyond stupid move. The Bruins did that with Seguin and he's on a point per game pace so far this year.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) If healthy, which is rare these days. The Packers wouldn't. Lacy-Nelson-Cobb and Finley. Throw James Jones in that mix also. Finley's injury is a major IF. I know how much you love Lacy and his age is a big factor vs Forte. But I don't think Rodgers would shed one tear if Cobb/Nelson were suddenly replaced by Jeffrey(ies)/Marshall.
