  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:11 PM) This is why baseball frustrates me so much (besides the umpires). These guys sign multi year contracts and with very few exceptions, immediately the teams and the fans regret the terms of the contract. It's insane. You sign a guy and once the honeymoon is over (the offseason), teams and fans immediately want to get rid of the player who just signed. What are your thoughts on Mark Buehrle's contract?

  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) Nice inning for Veal Late season 2012 Veal was a beast
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) I still can't tell if Reed's quote at the end means he thinks baseball means more in Boston than it does for the White Sox http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7869567.story I think he's just talking about the playoff implications, but baseball does mean more in Boston than on the south side.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) He definitely got the credit he deserves. He was a popular White Sox. People always thought he was good even the nights he got lit up, which were many. Not on Soxtalk
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) I think he's going to the Patriots to take the place of Hernandez. I bet Tebow can throw mid-90s
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) If they want to ensure themselves of not sliding back in the pack and possibly missing a WC spot, they would be wise to take Rios and Ramirez. That said, they're not the Angels/Dodgers/Giants/Yankees/Rangers/Red Sox. They can't just assume $50 milllion in contracts and "easily" give away prime prospects. I do think getting back Tabata (not Snider) and Mercer (to hold SS down for a year) would be fair. We might have to eat some salary or send another piece, like DeAza to be their 4th OF (and he has more homers than McCutchen/Marte). However, the other side of it is trading them to the big market teams that don't need to be so concerned with taking on additional payroll....we can theoretically extort them for more than the Pirates, who will drive a harder bargain. Is Rios/Ramirez really that much of an upgrade over Tabata/Mercer right now?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Except Zack Cozart is still considered their future. So count the Reds out of that. And Mercer just had the game winning hit last night and has done well SO FAR from an offensive standpoint. Kozma's sub 600 OPS stands out as the sore thumb. Unfortuantely for the Sox, Dusty Baker is not in charge of personnel, because he would much prefer a "veteran" Ramirez over young Cozart.
  9. Samardzija will be not be a Cub in 2015 anyway, he will be traded by then.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) And is isn't virtually tax free IIRC? Yeah, I thought I saw it was around 13%, which can be considered tax-free compared to the US rate for his tax bracket.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) YOu can't be surprised that people who have been advocating trading everyone, ASAP, for anything they can get, are complaining about returns... "Thornton is garbage! Trade him for a bag of balls!" "They traded Thornton and didn't get a top 100 prospect back? Fire Hahn!"
  12. Middle relievers only get noticed when they screw up, and Thornton became Soxtalk's whipping boy. But it says something if you are able to stay in the same bullpen for 8 straight years, you have to be doing something right. He was solid the whole time here, with that 2-3 year stretch where he was one of the top set-up guys in all of baseball.
  13. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) FWIW, it would have been better if everyone would've just played along with the OP. Something like: Sure we have a chance! Let's trade for Harper, Trout and Puig! We'll be right back in this thing! I tried to: QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Sale to the Giants for Posey, Pence & Cain (Coop will fix em) Q & Thompson to the Mariners for Seager & Morales Get it done Hahn!
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) Who was the hitter? Rajai Davis I believe
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 07:20 AM) Rockies just sent down Colvin yesterday. Don't know what happened to him. Looks like he forgot how to hit, looks terrible. Must be taking the opposite of PED's -- whatever that is. Last year he was very good. He didn't get called up til mid-June since the Rockies have a glutton of outfielders, but yeah, he was given a month to succeed and fell on his face. He had good years in 2010 & 2012 though.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) This is the same Tyler Colvin the Cubs gave up on years ago right? Correct, traded for Ian Stewart.
  17. According to Twitter, I was the only person in America who didn't watch Sharknado.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 01:30 AM) Yes, maybe 15-20 mil a year. Still crazy to think he's done in the NHL. He already has agreed to a contract with SKA St. Petersburg, so we can stop the talk of him walking away from $77 million, he's just walking away from hockey in North America. I was always a fan of his when he played in Atlanta, such a talented player stuck in hockey hell.
  19. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) We are only 13 games behind Detroit and have won 67% of our games against them with the current roster. Get aggressive, add 4 or 5 new bats to the lineup, and 14 out of the next 16 is possbile. That would leave us only 1 game to make up elsewhere and there's plenty of time to do it. Buy! Buy! Buy! No white flag trades in 2013!!! Sale to the Giants for Posey, Pence & Cain (Coop will fix em) Q & Thompson to the Mariners for Seager & Morales Get it done Hahn!
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) This thread is funny. It's ridiculous that some of you guys were told at a young age that you have to hate the Cubs just because that it is seriously flawing your judgment here. I am a lifelong Sox fan and I know that if the Sox had Bryant, Almora, Baez, and Soler people on this board would be doing cartwheels. They are 4 of the top 30 prospects in baseball. But nah they are on that evil northside team that my parents told me to hate when I was younger. They can't be any good. Would I rather have the Cubs farm system? Of course. I just hate the hype machine that gets built up, predicting WS titles solely based on prospects, especially with the high bust rate in baseball. We have been hearing about the Royals incredible farm system for years, and what has that gotten them? To be fair, here were the Sox on the 2002 Top 100 list: 12. Joe Borchard, of, White Sox 23. Jon Rauch, rhp, White Sox 32. Corwin Malone, lhp, White Sox 94. Joe Crede, 3b, White Sox
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) So they got D. Lee and Aramis out of that to go along with Zambrano and a few dominating years from Prior. Good point, although those two trades were helped by the cheap Marlins and incompetent Pirates.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9469926/...lb-jersey-sales Puig now in the Top for best-selling MLB jerseys in 2013 despite missing the first two months of the season. The Top 20 1. Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants 2. Mariano Rivera, New York Yankees 3. Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals 4. David Wright, New York Mets 5. Matt Harvey, New York Mets 6. 23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) So what you are saying is that women don't commit crimes. Got it.
