2013 Cubs catch all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) He's their early season version of Santiago. Other than EJax, their whole rotation has been awesome. Four guys have an ERA of under 3.10. A mediocre offense and s***ty bullpen has kept them worse than the Sox. Enter Kevin Gregg!

Sox vs Mets game thread
I'm not trying to give the s***ty offense a break, but Harvey has given up 7 runs TOTAL in 7 starts. A similar outcome would have happened against the Tigers, dude has been straight dealin'.

The Sharks wouldn't be an easy matchups by any means, but I am glad the Hawks can't face St. Louis in the conference semis. They scare me for some reason. (That point would be moot if the Wings knock off Anaheim)

2013 AL Central Catch All thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/hot-in-clevel...-184008686.html This article had me even a little bit excited about the Indians and their future under Francona. And, of course, the parallels one can draw with Ventura's situation of "how long will he stay?" or "Is his heart truly in it 100%?" Does his managing performance even matter if there is no one at the stadium to watch it?

Sox vs Mets game thread
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) The Sox can't put together a bullpen that's good enough to win a division. It's not an easything to do, but look since 2005, the years with good pens are few and far between. And that bullpen in 2005 was arguably the least talented of them all. Bullpens can be such a crapshoot.

Sox setting up for the end of the Konerko era?
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 7, 2013 -> 07:01 PM) I think this is PK last year in Sox uniform. If he keeps playing the way he has since last June, this may be his last year in a MLB uniform.

Mark Buehrle must be feeling snake-bitten...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) People are willing to pay well over $200 a case at USCF if you include tips. As is the case at many other baseball stadiums including the Rogers Centre. I don't see how that's relevant to my store-bought beer comparison, but OK.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) When I was last up there about 10 years ago, even their sales tax was 15% Yeah, that's how it was, somewhere between 13-15% tax anywhere we ate. Also, a case of beer cost like $45 because of liquor taxes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Though he is probably getting hit a lot harder by taxes versus in Miami. From my experience last weekend, Toronto's taxes make Chicago's seem cheap.

Sports Media discussion
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) Susannah Collins on her firing- As most of you know by now, I had a slip-up last week on the air while covering the Blackhawks playoff series. As a result of the attention it received, an old web-based sports comedy series I participated in several years ago came to light. The intention of that show was to present a satirical, tongue-in-cheek approach to sports but, unfortunately, some of the material it contained was off-color and offensive. I understand why some may have been offended by it and for this I am truly sorry. To be clear, that show in no way reflects my personal opinions. It has always been my dream to cover my hometown teams on the network I loved watching. I have worked tirelessly to develop my skills as a sports reporter, anchor and host, and I want to thank the city of Chicago for allowing me that opportunity. The outpouring of support I have received is overwhelming and it will remain in my heart, as will Chicago. Always. --Susannah "The show was a joke, and I still don't know see what the big freaking deal is. But since I don't want burn any future bridges in Chicago, because I'd like to get another job in town, here is a BS "heartfelt" apology."

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 7, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Unlike with AJP the Sox didnt really give him a halfway decent offer. He had to take the cash and go. It turned out to be a horrible decision. I wonder what would have happened had he let free agency play out, instead of jumping at the Marlins' offer. Obviously he wouldn't have gotten $58 million from anyone else, but maybe he gets a shorter deal from someone else with no-trade protection and things work out better.

Gavin Floyd to DL - Out 14-19 months for TJ Surgery
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) I have not heard a single Cubs fan suggest they trade Rizzo or Castro, etc. There's a big difference between signing someone like Maholm or Feldman and then trying to trade them if their value is high as opposed to developing MLB caliber players. The Cubs know they can afford to extend the deals for their young players if they do pan out, unlike Tampa (besides Longoria). I always hear fans talk about trading Castro. Rizzo not so much.

John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) There exists a really good chance that he was more throwing his pitches than trying to get batters out. It's like when people freak out about a bad spring training start. Sometimes it's just about working on your pitches, not results.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) For Danks, he usually only gets swings and misses on 20% of swing against him when he's having a good year. I don't know what % of his 86 pitches were swung at, but I would guess his swing & miss % was around 10-15%, which isn't too far off from his normal numbers. He was never the type of pitcher to strike out 200 in a season.
