  1. Let's get creative. Forget corpseball. Let's think of a new name for this.
  2. This team gets beat by everyone now. It could be a great pitcher, bad pitcher, fast pitcher, slow pitcher. It doesn't even f***ing matter. Disgusting. No heart, no hustle, no emotion. Whatever. Pick up your unearned checks after the game, boys.
  3. That was a hot smash by Beckham. I yelled "STRETCH" on contact.
  4. There is nothing more true in the world than the statement "Alex Rios sucks," BTW.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) WTF is going on here?!?! The Yankees aren't trading their .941-OPS hitting starting centerfielder who also happens to be one the 10 best players in MLB this year for a prospect. Granted Viciedo is really good, but Granderson is an established MLB All-Star who plays terrific defense and is hitting amazingly this year. LOL I was just thinking the same thing. Why would the Yankees trade away arguably their best hitter this year when they're in 1st in the East? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) But KW would have to be given permission to trade Viciedo, I'm sure. Certainly JR and the Board of Directors have to be realistic....that fighting off 3 teams that are all playing better than the White Sox isn't a very good gamble, especially after what's happened with Peavy, Dunn, Rios and Jackson. Viciedo is a future franchise hitter, and one of the few scouting determinations it seems they've gotten right since 2006. What were we trailing by when we waved the White Flag in 1997? I think it was only 3 1/2 GB, with the team meandering around .500. Are we sure here? Because I heard the same s*** about the Sox' current 2B.
  6. Bob Brenley and Dave Martinez would be my 1a and 1b, honestly. I used to love Ozzie, but his personality is no fun when the team sucks. It doesn't help that the team sucks partially because of his decisions.
  7. Does anyone know when Quentin hit a homer last?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 02:09 AM) Greg, who would the Yankees play in CF then? That's the reverse of a typical Yankees' deal. They're not going to trade away one of their best hitters in the middle of the season for an unproven prospect. And it would cost a lot more than Viciedo to acquire Granderson anyway. Could they put Gardner in CF and Viciedo in LF?
  9. There is not an announcer out there worse than Dick Stockton.
  10. Is there actually any chance the Sox can hit a LHP especially because that LHP pitches for the Twins? I vote no.
  11. I could see McNeil up this year and sticking with the team. His game compares to Brouwer's. I don't see why Smith won't start the year with the team. He showed at the end of the year and into the playoffs that he can play at the NHL level.
  12. Holmes would be a terrific addition to the Bears, but he's not going anywhere. Plus, he'll probably get $8m/yr. I can see the Bears getting Santana Moss or Mike Sims Walker. Yawn.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) Escobar should be ready by 2013. How good can he possibly be then? As in, who does he compare to? I don't follow the Sox farm as much as other teams'.
  14. Rios to ATL for Lowe. Quentin to the Pirates for Jameson Taillon (pipe dream) and Stetson Allie. Danks and Flowers to the Yankees for Jesus Montero. Konerko will probably never be dealt, although I would do it in a heartbeat if a team offered 2 top notch prospects and one or 2 solid ones. I'd rather keep Ramirez. No team will take AJ. I would trade Buehrle, but like Konerko, he won't go anywhere. Go into next year like this, and prepare for a top 5 pick: Lillibridge LF Ramirez SS Konerko 1B Dunn DH Viciedo RF Montero C Beckham 2B De Aza CF Morel 3B Buehrle Peavy Humber Sale Lowe
  15. What are some of your guys' pet peeves when you go to baseball games? I think my biggest one is when you sit by a group of 3-4 people, and they don't shut up the whole entire game. Then, to make it worse, none of them know a thing about baseball, so when one of the friends asks a baseball or Sox question, another answers with the totally wrong answer.
  16. That Carl Pavano to NY signing was s***, too.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Carolina is evidently looking for a 3rd or 4th rounder for Steve Smith. If we were trading a pick, I'd much rather go after Smith. I will point out I personally don't want us to make any trades because I want the club to keep its picks. I would like the team to take a serious look at Santonio Holmes and a guard. I would say no to Steve Smith because I am sick of watching 5'9" WR's run all over the field for the Bears. Get a bigger guy. Bennett is a start, but Knox and Hester don't do anything for me. Vincent Jackson anyone? QUOTE (Fotop @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:02 AM) Baseless speculation here cribbed from ESPN Insider, but hey, it's a lockout and I'm bored. Anyway, what about making a move for Hanyesworth to bolster up the Bears DTs? Presumably he wouldn't cost much trade-wise - random guess would indicate a third or fourth rounder or something like that. There's serious questions about attitude, motor, whatever you want to call it, but I think he's got something to prove at this point. A chip on your shoulder is always a good thing. Besides that, the guy has always been a beast DT in the 4-3, could be extremely likely that the major source of his angst was playing in a 3-4. Also have to think Marinelli would be a good influence on him. Thoughts? This more crazy than I think it is? I was shocked to see that according to the metrics he's theoretically playing at a high level over the last 3 years, could be BS, but interesting to think about. Haynesworth is just a huge piece of s*** at this point in his career. Everyone can say he stopped trying because of Shanahan and the 3-4 D, but the truth is, he was never going to try from the get go. Shanahan and their scheme was just his excuse.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) f*** the Sox.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Gregor at the Herald posted an article suggesting that the Sox could acquire Teheran or Arodys for Quentin. Pretty hilarious. Sox beat writers are such a clueless bunch. Teheran or Arodys might be impossible, but would Delgado?
  20. Future's game. All Star game. HR Derby. BUT PIERRE IS BETTER!!!!!1
  21. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) I think the AAA HR Derby is usually on ESPN. I know the Future's game usually is.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) I could see this causing a massive sequence of events. Quentin gets traded for Beachy. Spot needs to be cleared for Dayan, so E-Jax gets traded. Beachy plugged into rotation. In the offseason, Danks and Floyd get traded to shore up on prospects. Buehrle resigned (I just can't see any way this doesn't happen, just like Paulie). 2011 Rotation of: Humber-Buehrle-Peavy-Sale-Beachy. If they're going to trade Danks and Floyd, they should do it now. I firmly believe that Danks could bring back a great prospect. Jesus Montero anyone? Combining Floyd with Quentin a deal could bring back a lot too. If they can get Montero for Danks, do it now. If not, I'd rather keep Danks and give him an extension. Like everyone has said, the rotation will be a pitcher short if they deal Floyd, Danks, and Jackson, and then Buehrle leaves for FA. Combine that with the fact that Peavy will make 2+ DL trips, it's not looking good. I have a hypothetical question: would you guys trade Beckham, Sale, Ramirez, and Quentin for Starlin Castro and Josh Vitters?
