QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) i think I walk maybe once or twice a season. Hell, i would bet i am a first pitch swinger more than 80% of the time The idea is to get deep in the count so the pitcher throws you a good hitter's pitch. You're a lot more likely to get a good pitch 3-1 than on 1-1.

Winner winner!!!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Noesi with the White Sox is sporting a 3.92 era, 33K, 41 IP, 17 BB, 40H 18ER, 105 ERA+, 1.38 WHIP, 1.94 K/BB All for a pro-rated $512,500. He's basically the team's third best right handed starter, which isn't saying much, but still. And if Noesi continues to improve under Cooper, then this could be one of the most interesting acquisitions ever. Your team scores 7 runs off the guy in one inning, he gets DFA'd, said team picks him up off waivers, then develops him into a good starter. How funny would that be?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) 7-8 or 8-9, something like that, mostly doubles and triples. I was just hitting frozen ropes out to LF all night. We lost the 1st game 17-16 in extras and then 10-runned them in 5 27-17 in the 2nd. I pitched both games and while I liked pitching to the guys at the top of their order, it was an incredibly frustrating night because probably 6 out of the 10 guys that showed up for them went up to bat looking to walk. I'm sorry, I don't care if it's the last out of a state tournament and there are 2 outs and it's 3-1 and the bases are loaded and we're tied up, I'm going up there looking to hit every single time. If it's close, swing the f'ing bat. As a batter, I'm not going to bail the pitcher out. My goal is to get on base and walking happens to be one of those ways. As a pitcher, your goal is to throw strikes. It's one thing if the umpire is freaking terrible and squeezing you, it's another if you can't throw strikes and expect hitters to bail you out. Now, with all that said, I never go up there looking for a walk. However, I feel like complaining about hitters not swinging at balls out of the zone is pretty damn silly.

June 2 Game Thread Sox vs Dodgers
I really don't understand why ML infielders make the longer throw at times. Alexei almost always throws to first when there's a force available at second for the last out of an inning. Although these guys are great at it, there's still a higher probability of them screwing up a throw to first than screwing up a short throw to second.

I would have no problem with Quintana b****ing out his defense when he gets back to the dugout.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) I'm still staggered by that play by Gillaspie. Kershaw wasn't even close to third base. I think Kershaw kind of going into the line of sight of Gillaspie when he was throwing, which made him short-arm that throw. But yeah, there was absolutely no reason for him to throw that ball.

I'd feel so f***ing terrible for screwing my pitcher like Gillaspie and Gordon have this game.

Wow this is pathetic.

Quintana is so unlucky. There's no reason Gillaspie shouldn't have ran to third to get the out on Kershaw.

ESPN 30 franchise players
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) The first year Harper stays healthy for a full season he'll be a top 2-3 player in the game. Sounds like the argument for Carlos Quentin lol.

ESPN 30 franchise players
Bryce Harper at #2...? Seriously? Harper's triple slash .273/.353/.476. Good, but not anywhere near #2 in baseball good. He's got a lot of potential, but he's been a MLer for 3 years now and his numbers haven't been that impressive.

iOS 8 gets custom keyboards, sharing between apps, and 3rd party widgets. Late to the party, but it's good to see Apple bringing in useful features that iOS has lacked and needed for a while.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2014 -> 02:47 AM) So it's a simple question. What are the odds Indy still fires Vogel and OKC fires Brooks? I doubt OKC will can Brooks, although I do feel like he's holding the team back. I feel that Vogel's job might be on the line though. There's just way too much drama in Indy.

Had one of my better games yesterday. Hit 2 gappers (one only for a single though) and a homer. We had a good effort all around and won 13-3.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (flavum @ May 29, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Eh, you're right. Both B's No, how has Danks been better than Quintana...? Quintana's only had one bad start this year, where he gave up 5 runs in 5 innings against the Rangers. With the exception of only going 5 innings in Houston (where he only gave up 2 runs), he's had a quality start in every other start. That's 9 quality starts and 10/11 good starts. He's been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball this year. In fact, he's tied with Buehrle for the 4th most quality starts in the AL with 9 (3 guys ahead of them have 10).

Chris Sale
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 28, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Assuming no rainouts, Sale's next three starts would be 6/2 @ LA Dodgers, 6/8 @ LA Angels and 6/13 vs. KC at home. That 6/13 game should have good attendance, most of the outfield is already bought out. That's the only series we play at home in June plus it's a fireworks night. Promo code DPU6 if any is looking to nab cheap tickets for that night. Awesome, my birthday's 6/2.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (flavum @ May 29, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) Opening Day Lineup Eaton B- (injury prone, but fun to watch) Semien B- (big moments, not bad for a rookie) Gillaspie B+ (hitting like Gwynn, decent defense, injured) Abreu A (MVP numbers, butcher at 1B at times, but can live with that) Dunn B (good solid season for Donkey-no complaints) Garcia INC De Aza D- (started ok, then has been terrible) Ramirez A (All Star season) Flowers B (Better than we could have hoped for with the bat. Glove needs to improve) Viciedo B+ (probably outperforming what Avi would have done. Very solid.) L Garcia C (he's not expected to do much with the bat. He serves his purpose) Nieto B (Big surprise. Doing ok with Danks starts) Konerko D (A couple big hits, but...) Beckham B+ (where you been the last four years?) Sierra C (we'll see) Sale B+ (He awesome, but I can't give an 'ace' an A if he misses half of his starts) Paulino F Quintana B- (need more innings per start, but very solid) Johnson F Danks B (see Quintana, but great last start) Carroll C (he's another Axelrod, but provided a great game this season) Noesi C+ (he's climbing. Games 55-108, I hope he's an A or B) Rienzo B+ (big surprise. Hope he keeps it up) Webb B- (good arm, needs to throw more strikes) Petricka A (bullpen saver, on pace for 90+ innings) Putnam A (really helped get the pen settled after the terrible start) Lindstrom B+ (did ok. Hope he's back in August) Belisario C+ (was terrible, got better) Not sure how you can give Danks a B, but Quintana a B- with a straight face.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) An A for Flowers but a C for Eaton? Eaton's slash-line: .267/.329/.342 Pretty MEH. Plus, I had much higher expectations for Eaton than Flowers.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) Yesterday marked the 55th game of the season, 54 being 1/3 of the season. I figured today was as good of a day as any to talk about player performances to this point. The A's Chris Sale, Jake Petricka, Zach Putnam, Tyler Flowers, Adrian Nieto, Gordon Beckham, Conor Gillaspie, Alexei Ramirez, Jose Abreu The B's Dayan Viciedo, Adam Eaton, Adam Dunn, Dan Webb, Andre Rienzo, Jose Quintana The C's Scott Carroll, Hector Noesi, Leury Garcia, Marcus Semien The D's Scott Downs, John Danks, The F's Paul Konerko, Alejandro De Aza, The Incompletes (so far grade in parenthesis based on limited sample size) Erik Johnson (F) , Javy Guerra (B), Felipe Paulino (F), Jordan Danks (F), Avi Garcia (B), Moises Sierra ©, Now let's see yours? I think Quintana should be an A. He's been extremely consistent and currently ranked #18 in fWAR among all pitchers, ahead of both Justin Verlander and James Shields and just behind Max Scherzer. Anyway my rankings: A's: Sale, Abreu, Gillaspie, Ramirez, Quintana, Flowers (low) B's: Petricka, Putnam, Viciedo, Dunn, Rienzo, Beckham, Webb, Noesi (low) C's: Eaton, Semien, Belisario, Lindstrom, Carroll (low) D's: Danks, L. Garcia F's: Downs, Konerko, De Aza Incompletes: Johnson (low D), Guerra (B), Paulino (F), Danks (low D), A. Garcia (B), Sierra ©, Francisco (F).

2014 Video game thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 29, 2014 -> 02:11 AM) That's not exactly a reasonable complaint over a video game. The effort it would take for a street for street portion of a city to be remade is simply not realistic and only Chicagoans are going to complain so it's not worth the extra effort for them. The driving is pretty bad though. Why they mapped brake and reverse to the same button is beyond me. I do love the hacking idea and what it opens up. I will happily sink tons of hours into this game. Isn't GTA the same way?

That's a White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) You mean you also thought Eaton would make an out and our bullpen would proceed to blow it in extras? Speaking of Eaton, is it just me or does he got 0-fer quite a bit? His good games are good, but his bad ones are fairly bad.
