Too many pop ups and he's had his fair share of bad luck with some hard hit outs. Both he and Peters got a bit too home run happy after the ASG.

Are we sure that Martin will be better with an opener? Yeah, he's giving up runs in the first, but he's giving up so many runs that the rest of his innings are basically low leverage. Openers are usually to get a matchup advantage for pitchers who have lopsided platoon splits. Martin sucks against everyone right now.

Martin leaving too many pitches right down the middle.

I think part of why he was so effective with it tonight is that the scouting report was that he no longer throws it that much, nor does he throw it all that effectively. Reds hitters looked clueless when they saw the pitch.

He's basically on 8 days' rest, so you'd think he should look better if it's fatigue that's been hampering him.

You'd think he should succeed when he can throw at max effort for 20 some odd pitches. The concern with him was always that he'd walk too many guys to be a starter. Being good as a reliever is probably the worst possible outcome for him as a top 5 pick. It's the Drew Romo game!
