I remember thinking about just how many things had to go right for the Sox last year for them to be competitive right before the start of the season...and that was kind of when I realized that we were screwed. This year is even worse for obvious reasons. Not only do we need just about everyone in the lineup sans Robert to bounce back or break out, we'd need at least 3 guys in the rotation to come back from major injuries or straight up terrible seasons. Don't even get me started on the bullpen. Even if we get some comeback years from Yoan or Eloy, I really can't see this team winning more than 70 games.

But does he know how to win when he is surrounded by the talent of a 65 win team?

I think they need one big splash at Edge and modest contracts to a veteran center and free safety. They can get the rest in the draft.

Considering this was literally the first time the new OT rules have been used, I'm not even sure if they have the historical data points to actually quantify this. Under the old rules, you probably go for the kill shot, but with KC getting the ball back regardless, I think taking the points wasn't necessarily the wrong move. The Chiefs had to convert a couple of huge 3rd and 4th downs, so it's not like they had it easy driving down for the TD.

Losing Jones will be huge. He made Purdy get rid of the ball early so many times. Including the throw to Jennings in OT on 3rd and goal that would have been a touchdown if Purdy had more time. Paying Jones $30 million a year probably won't be the best use of the Bears' cap space, but he'd be a game changer for at least the first 2-3 years of his contract.

He outplayed Vuc just last week. He was still playing decent bench minutes for the Raptors.

The team is fun when they're playing at their best. The problem is that they're extremely inconsistent and no team in the NBA can play with that type of intensity every night.

He's also a BABIP merchant. Crazy high BABIP at every stop, including his time in the majors last year. We're definitely getting a Fletcher/Pillar platoon next year.

I think I'm firmly in the you don't trade LaVine for scraps camp. If you trade anyone, you trade an expiring like DeRozan. LaVine won't fetch you his true value and I don't think the issue is LaVine alone. It's the fact that he and DeRozan do not work together. That was one of my main concerns when the Bulls went out and signed DeRozan in 2021. I don't think the relationship between Zach and the Bulls is unfixable. You can try to make it work when he's the main option again. Trading him just to get his contract off the books is incredibly poor asset management. His trade value really can't get much lower than it is now, you might as well keep him and try to trade the pieces that can actually get you some value back.

I think there's also a subset of the fanbase that really wants the Bears to keep Fields, so the idea that Williams doesn't want to be here is something they want to be true.
