Sox were scouting Javier Vazquez
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Looking at the numbers a little closer, Floyds career numbers aren't nearly as good as Vazquez's. Floyd has a higher ERA (4.46 to 4.22), higher H/9 (9.0 to 8.3), lower K/9 (7.0 vs 8.0), higher BB/9 (3.0 vs 2.4) and ERA+ (105 vs 100) Vazquez has had a few good seasons in the NL (one of them real good), Floyd's on-the-surface numbers haven't really looked good since 2008. But Javy's been out of baseball for a whole year, not to mention he's on the wrong side of 35.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) ESPN is unwatchable. If you crave NFL coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NBA coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave MLB coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NHL coverage, there's a channel for that. ESPN is getting worse by the day. (EDIT: save NBA Countdown - best show on that channel that thankfully leads into actual basketball games) Even Yahoo! Sports ran an article about it on their front page last night. It's not only ESPN.

Sox were scouting Javier Vazquez
QUOTE (Bubba Philips @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) he would give whatever team he pitches for 200 innings and win 1/2 of his games. We already have that in Gavin Floyd.

Sox were scouting Javier Vazquez
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) It doesn't surprise me at all. I bet he would be a much better pitcher sans Ozzie. Javy's success depends on his team's lack of it.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
Some national media outlets (starts with E ends with N) were talking about if Cutler's NFC Championship fiasco had anything to do with RGIII going out there playing hurt. Absolutely stupid and ridiculous. You can't let what the media, some meatball fans, and players who think they're tough sway your judgement. Your entire career is far more important than one wild card playoff game. It's not the super bowl, it's not even the NFC championship. If RGIII was thinking about something like that, then he would have gotten hurt eventually.

2013 HOF ballot out, includes Sosa, Clemens, Bonds
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) These percentages tell me that Bonds and Clemens get in eventually. Personally, this is more of an indictment on Sammy Sosa. 12.5% for a guy who never test positive and never admitted to it? Won an MVP, multiple All-Star appearances, 600+ home runs, only guy to hit 60+ homers in 3 seasons. There are about 1 million red flags, and apparently the BBWAA has taken those quite seriously and they have essentially stated that, without steroids, Sosa is nowhere near a Hall of Famer. Even with steroids, Sosa isn't a sure-fire hall of famer.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) They allow tethering. Bootloading/rooting isn't the same. Verizon has their own software in their OTA builds that checks whether or not you subscribe to tethering. It isn't the same, but part of the reason Verizon likes locking bootloaders is to enforce stuff like that.

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) Would you rather have Torii Hunter on the White Sox at this stage than Viciedo though? I think Viciedo's numbers at the end of the year will be better than Hunter's numbers. Tank should hit close to 30 HR's this year. I'd rather have Hunter for the next year or two, if they're both paid the same amount.

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (bhawk99 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) CF A. Jackson 7 vs DeAza 6 slight advantage Jackson LF T. Hunter 6 vs Tank 7 almost a wash but I'll say slight advantage Tank RF Q. Berry/ A. Garcia 6 vs Rios 8 advantage Rios 1B Prince 9 vs Paulie 8 sorry to say but I have to give advantage to Prince 2B R. Santiago 4 vs Beckham 5 both suck but because of D slight advantage Beckham SS J. Peralta 5 vs Alexi 7 advantage Alexi 3B KM. Cabrerra 10 vs Keppinger 7 blowout advantage Cabrerra C A. Avila 5 vs Flowers 4 Flowers is unproven advantage Avila DH V. Martinez 8 vs Dunn 8 push Ace Verlander 10 vs Sale 9 Sale is very good but Verlander gets the advantage Rest of Starters Det 6 Sox 7 slight advantage Sox Bullpens Det 5 Sox 5 push Bench Det 5 Sox 3 Sox have no bench Manager Det 6 Sox 4 Robin still learning In my opinion and home made formula Detroit wins 92 games and the Sox win 88 [maybe enough for wildcard but doubtful] 4 games Detroit advantage is catchable if Rick Hahn makes the right moves. Come on Rick we are counting on you. Torii Hunter's better than Tank and Omar Infante plays 2B for the Tigers now.

The bullpen phone is dead
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) So now MLB is getting into 1990's technology in 2013. How hard would it be to have touch-screen computer terminals in the dugout and bullpen and have the manager or pitching coach just pick from a list of relievers on the screen and have it flash on the bullpen screen? YOU JUST DON'T GET IT DO YOU? Baseball is an old timer sport and WE NEED TO KEEP IT THAT WAY! YOU KIDS AND YOUR DAMN TECHNOLOGY.

Technology catch-all thread
Verizon might have the best service in the U.S., but my god are they a pain in the ass. Not only do they lock their bootloaders so you can't flash your own ROMs on Android phones, but they don't even allow you to return your phone to stock that easily when you realize that you need to unlock your bootloader first (doh). And here I am, waiting for their OTA update to finish downloading so I can flash this phone back to stock with ODIN. I get that they do it because they don't want people tethering without a plan for it, but a lot of carriers detect that no matter what software you're running. Did I also mention how slow Verizon is with updates and how they force you to update your software after you download an OTA (accidentally or intentionally) after 5 days? Awful.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Well, in fairness, you just compared a phone to a tablet. So of course it's smaller than those...to me, that's like comparing a compact car to a pickup truck...IMO, they're different tools for different type jobs. But, like you said, if it was free...I wouldn't say no, either. Shack was comparing it to an iPad...
