2013 ZiPS Projections for White Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) Well, you have to understand Carson Cistulli. He's kind of obsessed with guys like Saladino, and he spends a lot of time bringing them to light and isn't exactly known for rigorous sabermetric truth (and he doesn't claim to be that kind of guy). I don't think he's saying that Saladino WILL be a good piece, I think he's just pointing out that Saladino would project to be useful, which is probably surprising and thus noteworthy, especially for a guy who likes to think about under-the-radar fringe guys. Does he still have a boner for Charlie Blackmon?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) What king of glass are they using in the Xperia Z? Perhaps it's sturdier. It's tempered glass, apparently. They're stronger than the iPhone 4's glass backing I'd assume, but I'm not sure how it stacks up against Gorilla Glass 2 or something newer. Either way, glass is prone to breaking and it's a bad idea to cover the back of a phone with it.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) Some chick makes up a name and leads him on for a while before faking her death. He's far from the first guy this has happened to, just the most famous. How can you call anybody your real girlfriend when you've never met her in person? Sure, that might not be too low to go for some loner on the internet, but for a star college football player?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Aesthetically, this Sony phone looks better than anything I've ever seen from HTC or Samsung. That glass backing might not do too well. Look at what happened with the Nexus 4. You probably can't use that phone without a case if you want the glass on the back of the phone to stay intact. Moral of story: don't put glass on the back of a phone (or at least don't make the entire back of it glass). It hasn't worked well for Apple or LG/Google so far. And yes it is a very nice looking phone. I like the dedicated camera button.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) It's gotten to the point that these larger phones (5" or less) aren't as large as they once were, because the screen's are practically edge to edge, without much wasted bezel space...and they're orders thinner than they used to be. I'm holding out to see the next Nexus phone from Google/Moto they've been working on before I'll make a choice...that Sony phone looks great...but...it's Sony...I'm not sure I can get over my distrust of them at this point. That's pretty much my take on it as well. I already don't like Sony's skin on top of Android and I feel like it won't get enough support from the development community to have it last for more than a year.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) same here. The thing i love about my iphone 5 is how well built it feels when its in your hand, its not just a plastic shell with a nice screen on it. But since im going back to android phones this year im looking to get my hands on that new sony phone you just showed. It looks like sex. I've never understood the fascination of calling plastic material flimsy or cheap. Yeah, sure, there are cheap and flimsy plastic phones out there. But when you start to get into the higher tiers of smartphone with plastic casings, they're using high quality and very light polycarbonate plastic. Go look at a phone like the HTC One X, the matte finish with its polycarbonate backing looks awesome and it feels nice in the hand. Everyone has their preferences, but some exaggerate the lack of build quality in phones with plastic casings.

I would suggest that you learn all the facts before making a judgment, but that's probably lost on somebody with your screen name. Have you read the article? How does Manti Te'o not know his girlfriend was a hoax?!?!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I know there's a strong chance I'll be blown away by something at Mobile World Conference but in case I'm not, this will be my next phone when my contract is up in June. What a gorgeous phone and the specs are killer. Disclaimer: I have huge hands. Large phones don't scare me. HTC and Samsung will do better at MWC.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:01 AM) Jerry Rice compares Trestman to Bill Walsh. It was a very nice hire for the Bears. I got to meet Trestman when he was with the 49ers, he seem like a great guy Look for the Bears to sign a guy like Mike Wallace, Trestman loves having 2 star WR's If Mike Wallace takes a paycut, sure.

2013 ZiPS Projections for White Sox
I'm pleasantly surprised by these projections. I did not think we'd get so many wins out of our pitching. As for the position players...yuck.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) Passing on Shabazz, McLemore, or Goodwin would be idiotic. I know this is a pipe dream, but I feel like with more sweetener, the Bobcats might bite. Is MJ at still at the helm? Cause if he is, they probably will.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 12:58 AM) @BradBiggs: An NFL source just told me #Bears will hire Marc Trestman as the next head coach. @BradBiggs: Marc Trestman, coach of the Montreal Alouettes, selected over #Colts OC Bruce Arians and #Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell. Jimmy Johnson called it. Well, not too disappointed, but I certainly didn't see this coming before his name was brought up. Hell, I didn't even know who he was two weeks ago.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) I'm OK with Trestman. Just please bring in a great defensive coordinator. You could just stick with Marinelli. Personally, I hope the Bears don't hire Trestman. I'd much rather see them hire Arians, but I won't scrutinize Emery for going with Trestman.

Who killed JFK
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Not exactly on subject but ironically a friend on facebook just posted this... Have a history teacher explain this if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost a child while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford." Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford." Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the "kicker": A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. (Shoulda said in not with) AND...................: Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse... So what this basically says is that the guy who killed Lincoln came back from the dead a hundred years later to kill Kennedy under a different name.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) Nats want to win the World Series. Cant have enough good pitchers. They paid a steep price not only salary but draft pick and draft slot money. Boras strikes again. Their pick was the 29th pick, so it's not like they gave up a really high pick for him.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) I have not watched the CFL in a few years but I think the game is a little different up here and Trestman may have had to adjust ho style to it. The CFL has only 3 downs as opposed to four. They pass a lot so it shouldn't come as a surprise. His CFL run/pass numbers should not reflect his views on offense in the NFL.

Well the good thing is that the Tigers won't be signing Soriano, so they are closer-less. But I don't see why the Nats needed him. They have Storen and Clippard.

Keith Law's 25 under 25
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) And Parker and Moore? I know they have some big time potential, but Chris has done it over the course of a season, while these two clearly have not. I can understand Moore. He's more or less even with Sale in terms of stuff. But Sale has much better command. As for Parker, he's a good pitcher, but nothing spectacular. Although I can see him putting up numbers Sale put up last year, just not as many Ks.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) The list has other guys that were on the DL at some point do not see them getting smart ass injury comments. Law has always had a Sox bias. Yeah, but he never liked Sale to begin with.
