QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 01:40 AM) His brother was apparently at her bedside when she died. Teo said he met her several times. He then "told ND" on dec 26 that it was fake yet spoke about it before te BCS title game. That's a lot of lies for no reason if he was really scammed. He said "her brother" as in the GF's brother.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:33 AM) This. I honestly don't give a s*** if he's gay. Most of us won't care...but I doubt the LDS church or a decent amount of people at Notre Dame won't care.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 11:16 PM) Im actually starting to lean more towards this is some sort of well established scam. Here is my reasoning, Mauia seems to be the only person in this that has no real motive. Why would he speak out for no reason? Why would he defend a dead girl that is supposedly a hoax? What does he have to gain? To me that makes his testimony credible. And the part that he said that makes me think scam is "Her father had just died". Why does that make me think scam? In the Te'o story the girl was also in a bad situation. Car accident, cancer, death. These are all things that make a caring person more likely to give money etc. Its a classic scam "I am in a bad situation, I would never ask for this, but could you please do X, I really really need it". He allegedly gave her the game ball to some ND game I think. If that is his story, find out where he sent it, track it and youll get your answer. Samoan Nigerian Prince scheme.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 10:54 PM) So it appears that Marinelli is not staying. That's a huge bummer. If the "plan" was to go with an offensive guy as HC and then let Marinelli run the defense, how the heck do you not already know he's going to stay? That's bush league... especially if he leaves to be the d-line coach in Dallas. He'd take a lesser position to leave the Bears? That doesn't speak well for our new coach. Ah crap. Now this hire looks a lot worse.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) This is a pretty crack pot theory, but I cant understand the Reagan Maui'a angle. If ND and T'eo are to be believed now, this girl never really existed. But if Reagan Maui'a is to believed she is real. So those are mutually exclusive statements. Why under any circumstances would Reagan Maui'a get involved? To protect some fake girls honor? What if this is like some sort of Nigerian Prince scam amongst the Samoan community. And the reason Reagan Maui'a claim to have met her before T'eo (which would have been what 2008 when she was 18? and Reagan Maui'a was 24?) is that someone was trying to run a similar scam on him. Or I guess he could be the leader of the scam. And while Reagan Maui'a is from American Samoa he did attend University of Hawaii, so there would be some overlap in Hawaii. The strange part is, I dont believe his gf was from Hawaii. She was a Stanford student and only visited Hawaii rarely. So there really shouldnt be a lot of overlap between Reagan Maui'a and the girl T'eo was with. This is the best tv show ive seen in a while. It might be the story of the year. It's got so many damn twists and conspiracy theories.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) If it was all to cover up his sexuality, why say that she died? That makes no sense. Why wouldn't he say that they broke up? It just doesn't seem logical. Maybe he was trying to hide his sexuality and promote himself?

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) The "feel" of a phone really comes down to what you're tactilely accustomed to. My One X feels sturdy and slick to me. My GF's iPhone5 feels tiny and almost like a toy. As we discussed earlier, apparently my desires in a phone are unique. I want a phone to be a tablet. If I ever bought an actual tablet, I want it to be a small computer. I don't want a tablet that runs a phone OS. I want a small computer that runs an actual computer OS, with computer specs. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) The phone i had before the iphone 5 was the Galaxy S2 and it felt "plasticky" and "flimsy" to me, especially after owning an iphone 4 before that one. I wonder what people thought of when the iPhone was made of plastic prior to the 4.

2013 ZiPS Projections for White Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) Well, you have to understand Carson Cistulli. He's kind of obsessed with guys like Saladino, and he spends a lot of time bringing them to light and isn't exactly known for rigorous sabermetric truth (and he doesn't claim to be that kind of guy). I don't think he's saying that Saladino WILL be a good piece, I think he's just pointing out that Saladino would project to be useful, which is probably surprising and thus noteworthy, especially for a guy who likes to think about under-the-radar fringe guys. Does he still have a boner for Charlie Blackmon?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) What king of glass are they using in the Xperia Z? Perhaps it's sturdier. It's tempered glass, apparently. They're stronger than the iPhone 4's glass backing I'd assume, but I'm not sure how it stacks up against Gorilla Glass 2 or something newer. Either way, glass is prone to breaking and it's a bad idea to cover the back of a phone with it.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) Some chick makes up a name and leads him on for a while before faking her death. He's far from the first guy this has happened to, just the most famous. How can you call anybody your real girlfriend when you've never met her in person? Sure, that might not be too low to go for some loner on the internet, but for a star college football player?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Aesthetically, this Sony phone looks better than anything I've ever seen from HTC or Samsung. That glass backing might not do too well. Look at what happened with the Nexus 4. You probably can't use that phone without a case if you want the glass on the back of the phone to stay intact. Moral of story: don't put glass on the back of a phone (or at least don't make the entire back of it glass). It hasn't worked well for Apple or LG/Google so far. And yes it is a very nice looking phone. I like the dedicated camera button.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) It's gotten to the point that these larger phones (5" or less) aren't as large as they once were, because the screen's are practically edge to edge, without much wasted bezel space...and they're orders thinner than they used to be. I'm holding out to see the next Nexus phone from Google/Moto they've been working on before I'll make a choice...that Sony phone looks great...but...it's Sony...I'm not sure I can get over my distrust of them at this point. That's pretty much my take on it as well. I already don't like Sony's skin on top of Android and I feel like it won't get enough support from the development community to have it last for more than a year.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) same here. The thing i love about my iphone 5 is how well built it feels when its in your hand, its not just a plastic shell with a nice screen on it. But since im going back to android phones this year im looking to get my hands on that new sony phone you just showed. It looks like sex. I've never understood the fascination of calling plastic material flimsy or cheap. Yeah, sure, there are cheap and flimsy plastic phones out there. But when you start to get into the higher tiers of smartphone with plastic casings, they're using high quality and very light polycarbonate plastic. Go look at a phone like the HTC One X, the matte finish with its polycarbonate backing looks awesome and it feels nice in the hand. Everyone has their preferences, but some exaggerate the lack of build quality in phones with plastic casings.
