  1. I was interested in joining...until I noticed Joe said the rosters are from 2009. Does this mean all stats and future performances are determined based on stats from 2009 and before?
  2. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) The last guy to have the surgery that John Danks did was Chris Young. (I remember reading that in an article around the time that Danks' surgery was performed) Before Young's injury that caused the surgery, he threw low 90s. He came back from surgery throwing low to mid 80s. I'm with Marty on this one. Most pitchers who have shoulder surgery at any point in their careers are done within 2-4 years after their shoulder procedure. Look at Brandon Webb. He won a Cy Young award in 2008 or so, he can't find a job now because his stuff is so bad. He's relegated to tryouts for teams just to get a minor league contract. Peavy is not the norm; he is a one in a small number of success stories. Danks' best chance is to try to reinvent himself as Mark Buehrle. I don't think he has the command to do that. This is overly pessimistic...
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) I'm interested to know if that altered the devices stability at all? Have you seen any noticeable or functional issues with doing this? Any incompatibilities? Not at all. It's still running Amazon's firmware. I just rooted it so I can install the Play Store on it. I hated the Amazon launcher so I went with Nova and it's working fine. Now it's more like an actual Android tablet. The tricky thing is that the Fire lacks some basic things Android tablets come with (like a clock), so some widgets that need the clock app might not work. You can always sideload the Android clock app as a system app though, which I will be doing soon.
  4. Rooted and installed Nova launcher on the Kindle Fire I got. It just got so much better...
  5. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Agreed, that price is a little high. Two years seemed reasonable, did not want to get stuck with Linebrink again. Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Adams has a very Linebrink like history, except he's been much better.
  6. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/phil...mike-adams.html Phillies close to signing Adams, was hoping we could get him to replace Myers. Not at $12 million for 2 years. Adams' numbers dropped quite a bit last year.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) I hope not. He is their one weak link in the rotation. Not against us. Porcello has shown some good flashes and his peripherals were good last year.
  8. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) prove it
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) Thats crazy. I never even thought about that when I was in school. Lockdown happened almost first thing in the morning. We all knew it wasn't a drill from the fear in the PA woman's voice. But yeah, two hours later, we got the all clear, officers checked everyone. I was lucky, as my classroom was one of the first rooms checked and we got to hang out the rest of the day doing nothing. There were some people who had to stay in a dark classroom for almost the whole day without the ability to go to the bathroom. The good thing is that nothing actually happened.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) I was in a lockdown situation in my high school about 6 years ago now and it was pretty crazy. No one was harmed but someone brought 6 guns to school. Intentions were unclear but rumor was always that he was trying to use them as currency. This is what we all fear when stuff like that happens I was in a lockdown and the gun was fake...
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) tl;dr
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 08:35 AM) I just figured it warranted a quick post, considering how much space here has been dedicated to discussing the possibility of Hamilton to the White Sox For something that had zero probability of happening, we sure talked about it a lot.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) If we really want to do a tally on this, here's the fWAR on some of the guys they lost last year: Torii Hunter: 5.3 (man he had a ridiculous season didn't he) Greinke ~1.3 (had him for 1/3 of the season) Dan Haren: 1.8 (was a 6 WAR guy the year before) Jordan Walden: 0.5 Maicer Izturis: 0.7 They've added: Tommy Hanson 1 WAR last year, >2 WAR in better previous years Ryan Madson: 1.7 Sean Burnett: 1.1 Joe Blanton: 2.4 Josh Hamilton: ~5 They're strengthened their bullpen, but in the fWAR world, Hamilton puts them pretty close to where they were last year, unless he can return to being an MVP type player despite getting older. Their rotation is pretty much where it was last year unless someone gets better. If we want to talk about them as the best team in the AL, they need to add to their rotation or have someone else on their roster step up. They definitely have guys who could do so (Pujols, Trumbo, Morales), but they also have guys who could step back with age or injury, and then that's all counting on Mike Trout repeating one of the best seasons in MLB history. I honestly don't like the Angels' rotation much. I mean, Weaver's great. But Wilson had a down year last season and who knows how his arm will hold up. Hanson was awful last year and Blanton is a decent #4 or #5. Maybe a full season of Trout + Hamilton and a non-awful month of April for Pujols can make their rotation issues less obvious.

    Just started finals today. Finished one already (easy), but my only challenging final is in about 7 and a half hours. 3 more hours of torture and I won't have to worry about computer architecture again for a while.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 09:32 AM) Yes, my "sophisticated" search algorithm is called reading this thread, which is mostly attempt after attempt to bash anything Apple, with little to no objectivity. I've stated it multiple times...and I'll state it again...unfairly bash Microsoft or Google, or practically any other tech company, and I'll be just as quick to defend them against uninformed posts, too. Technology is actually a passion of mine, thus my long winded posts. You're just mad that I was right when I said Google would release their own maps application on iOS, and end up having to give Apple everything it requested for it's map application, only free, including turn by turn, etc. You asked me in this very thread...are you sure about that? I was sure. And the icing on the cake is Google admitted it's iOS maps app is even better than their own Android app. Take that, jolly green giant. It might be better in terms of the UI since they had to remake the whole app. They've been just adding on to the Android version since 2009. The first thing I noticed about Apple Maps was how much better the UI looked compared to Google Maps. But looks aren't everything. The Android version has some features that the iOS version lacks, like the ability to save maps for offline use, which I think is a very big plus.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 11:14 PM) He's my Evil Apple twin, or would that me make HIS Evil Apple twin? Either way, you get the idea. Expect a long rebuttal.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 11:16 PM) Free event at school? Umm.....yes please. http://cms.bsu.edu/Web/Emens/Events/Februa...BillyBeane.aspx I'm sure Billy will get me that Front Office baseball job I've always wanted. First question: Why the f*** did you not trade Brett Anderson for Wil Myers?
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) If he goes to Detroit, this would be the 3rd Cubs transaction in 5 months that "happened", but then actually didn't. Yup. Looks like somebody's leaking information far too early in their FO.
  19. I wonder just how much more Detroit is offering. The Cubs might have been used as a bargaining chip. LOL
  20. It makes me wonder why the Royals didn't just sign Anibal Sanchez or Ryan Dempster instead of trading for Shields. It would have cost them no internal talent and the annual money is more or less the same as Shields.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) Cubs have some pretty good pitching now, but that deal makes no sense. Eh, Garza, Samardzija, Sanchez, Feldman, Baker. Lots of question marks in there.
  22. Sanchez to Cubs for 5 years and $75 million. The Tigers will be looking for pitching now I assume.
