  1. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) SportsCenter ‏@SportsCenter Bud Selig says on "The Mike Lupica Show" he will expand instant replay to include trapped balls in the outfield & balls hit down the line. Could be a Diamond Club thread but I figured it was relevant enough for PHT. They should also expand it to calls at bases. When that's done, I'll be satisfied with instant replay in baseball.
  2. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) What would it take to get Shields? Would Viciedo or Reed be involved? I don't believe so. Shields is having a bad year. His ERA is 4.5. His value can't be that high right now. That being said, his peripherals are still decent and I'd like to have him as a 4th or 5th starter.
  3. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) There's nothing to be learned from a 3 start sample size. That ERA is completely irrelevant. Understatement of the century? That would be like saying Beckham is kind of like Chase Utley, only without the talent. C'mon now. Fine. He's a lot like Javier Vazquez, but with much much much better stuff. Happy now? Greinke has this ability to give up a flurry of runs in one or two innings once in a while. Otherwise, he's fairly dominant. I would rather have somebody that was a bit more consistent though. Is there a chance we get Shaun Marcum? I know he's hurt, but he'd come a hell of a lot cheaper.
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) I don't mind giving up Jones for Greinke but not Reed Yeah, I'd give up Jones as the main piece in a split second. But Reed is far more valuable than some view him on this forum. His ERA may be around 4, but his peripherals point to a guy who is an elite closer, as does his stuff. Elite closer for 5 years > elite starter for 10 starts. Besides, do any of you really trust Brett Myers as our closer for the rest of the year? I don't.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) I want Google Fiber. That's so worth it.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) Ugh, please KW, stop this fascination right meow. It's definitely not worth giving up your closer of the future for a rental. 10 starts vs. 5 years...you do the math.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) BTW, Greinke had a 6.48 ERA in 3 postseason starts last year. He's kind of like Gavin Floyd, but with much much better stuff.
  8. Great game by the Indians. That 7th inning must have been awesome. It's not often you get 4 runs off Verlander.
  9. Ump screwed up the call at 1B on a double play. Game still going. If Berry somehow gets on, Cabrera will be up. This could be bad.
  10. Lilli's back to his pre 2011 self again. Can't hit anything, even fastballs.
  11. Pestano with a 1-2-3. Perez will have at least a 2 run lead.
  12. Verlander implodes in 7th.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) That all started with trying to fill a hole at 3rd. The inability of Josh Fields, over paying Teahan, makes me think the Sox should make every effort to sign Youk. God, it's been 3 years since we trade for him and people still can't spell Teahen right?
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Rios quietly having a career year. I thought this was the case in 2010 too. But by this time in 2010, Rios was starting to struggle. He stopped pulling the ball and started hitting weak grounders up the middle most of the time.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) Seriously, I just remember that game way too clearly. Beckham looked like '09 Beckham. Then he couldn't bunt and it all spiraled from there. Also, how the f*** do we both remember that game? It was the second game of the season? lol It was the first game Peavy pitched in 2010. I remember being really pumped for it. But then Peavy was kinda eh and our offense didn't do jack against Carmona after Paulie hit an early home run. Truth is, Beckham looked good to start both 2010 and 2011. Then he'd end up spiraling in mid April and he'll show glimpses here or there. He hit well in the second half of 2010 until he hurt his hand. Gordon's just a hard guy to figure out at this point.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Laurence Holmes raving about Kenny is swindling teams this year. We really did rip off the Astros and Red Sox when you think about it... We definitely ripped off Boston. Houston...idk. Who is that PTBNL? Plus, Myers isn't really THAT good. His peripherals are bad for a reliever. I'd honestly rather have him be a starter.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) He's a big confidence guy. The game from 2010 I put up, well, I remember him getting two solid hits. Then we had him bunt and I remember someone (either here or media) roasting Ozzie for "taking the bat out of his better hitters hand." I remember that game. He had Beckham bunt twice, I think. He screwed up both times.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Or if the crowd at RealGM is to be believed, they hate baseball, but then see the White Sox payroll and compare it straight to the Bulls payroll. It doesn't work like that. If there was no salary cap in basketball, I'd have to imagine the Knicks and Lakers would be spending like the Yankees and Red Sox. People with no understanding of baseball just don't get it...
  19. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) Youk hurt, Bacon going nowhere Too bad - he really needs a Lind-esque trip to AAA Beckham should have been sent down last year.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:45 PM) How do you not think Ryan Dempster is a very solid starter? He's a #3 type guy who is pitching like an ace this year. #3 starters aren't worth prospects like Randall Delgado.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Want the difference between the Bulls and White Sox? Gar Forman vs. Kenny Williams That's it. Bulls fans (who are also Cubs fans) who think Jerry mixes revenue from the Sox with the Bulls are financially blind. Jerry's a business man. No good business man lets the revenue from two of his assets blend together THAT easily. It's not like he wakes up one day and decides that he'll spend $20 million from the Bulls' revenue on the White Sox instead.
  22. If I'm a Cubs fan, I'd hate Ryan Dempster right now. Trading a rental for a guy like Randall Delgado is a complete steal.
  23. Does JR own the majority of the Bulls or does he own the majority of the White Sox? I remember he actually owned quite a bit of one of the teams, but can't remember which.
