White Sox vs Twins
DeVries is the cousin of Eric Sogard. Hahah.

Addison Reed IS the Sox closer
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) I really don't see that this was an easy management decision. Most really good closers have one outstanding off speed or "trick" pitch. Rivera with the cutter, Hoffman with the changeup etc. Reed does have an outstanding fastball and good offspeed stuff but Santiago has that screwball that really could make a difference. And it's not like Reed had or even has a track record of success in the majors. In a year where no one expected them to be in playoff contention, I can see where Santiago's skill set was very tempting. I can't say I agreed with it but I can see the logic behind it. Reed = best relief prospect in baseball. Me before spring training: who the hell is Hector Santiago? Besides, I think most of us can agree that Santiago is more fit to be a starter with his arsenal. Not a closer. In a season where you thought you wouldn't contend, why not give Reed the job from the start? It puzzled me that it took so long for Reed to get a chance.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) He was reincarnated and you still doubt him? I doubt his ability to hit .381.

Paulie has a .420 BABIP. I think it's safe to say he won't hit .381 this year, but we should all prepare for the inevitable.

Bigger career disappointment...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) I know injuries and surgeries really derailed both of their careers, but who is the bigger disappointment based on how they looked early in their careers, Francisco Liriano or Kerry Wood? Liriano. He was so dominant in 06 and was almost just as dominant in 2010. Wood had incredible stuff, but Liriano featured a slider in the low 90s and a fastball in the mid 90s when he first came up. He was also left handed. When both were healthy, Liriano was far better. Wood was a borderline all-star when he was pitching, Liriano was a potential Cy Young Award winner.

Hey, we won a game against the Twins! Chris Sale is too good for you Minnesota.

Something's not right with Thronton. His K/9 is way down, giving up way too many walks.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) I like him too. Better than his partner. Too bad he left town. Dave Wills should have done radio here. He left like 2 years before Rooney went to St. Louis. It's a shame, because he's doing a great job down in Tampa.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) Len and Bob are SO bad. Talk about saying nothing for a whole broadcast. The only time I ever notice them saying anything is when they say something way off base. I wonder if Len Kasper had ever been to a baseball game before he started broadcasting. I got nothing against Brenly for the most part, but Len Kasper sucks.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) Law Holmes post was a joke. Every now and then I make the mistake of turned on 670 on a random Saturday and he's doing a Depaul game, I believe. That wasn't serious. I want a professional. I actually like Vasgersian MORE because of The Show. Funny. Then you want Zack Zaidman.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) I'll probably hit up a cubs game or two as well. Why the hell not? Impure! You call yourself a Sox fan?

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) He's a homer as much as anyone on earth, so if you're holding that against Hawk, you've got to hold it against Thorne. Secondly, he tries to be incredibly overdramatic and it gets old in baseball...hockey, that works, baseball....no. Thirdly, in the past, it has been painful listening to him trying to make the Orioles sound respectful...maybe it's working better now that they actually have been winning a bit. I've always thought Palmer was by far the better member of that team... Eh I didn't find him all that bad in the MLB 2K games. I don't watch too many Orioles games, but I've always thought he had a decent reputation as a play by play guy.

White Sox vs Twins 7:10 CST
The Twins only looked good in 2 innings last night and most of that was Gavin Floyd's fault. In other words, they still suck and they're still like 15 under .500. Win the next 2!

PK - back in action
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Well Jesus cost us a few runs in the field yesterday, unfortunately. I hope he is better out there tonight. I thought Dunn should have played first to begin with. Let Paulie DH a few nights, he was obviously not 100% out in the field (especially on that Casilla "double").

Sox vs Twins 5/22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
Man, we're just bailing P.J. Walters out. He's pitched mediocre at best yet he's only given up a run.

Sox vs Twins 5/22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
Scott Diamond, the guy going tomorrow, has been very good so far. Let's hope Sale's better tomorrow so we can have a chance of winning this series.

Sox vs Twins 5/22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
Pitch selection was absolutely awful tonight. Why the hell would you throw Willingham three consecutive sliders down and low when he was never going to swing at them? Floyd didn't have it tonight (for the most part, he looked good for an inning), but his lack of command wasn't the only thing that made him this bad.

Post game - Todd Hollandsworth
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 22, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Let me break it down greg. The fact that Oswaldo José Guillén Barrios had another job offer mid-season, while he was managing a team, means one thing. He was talking to another team during the season, which is kind of against MLB rules (that's why we got Marinez and Martinez). He used that to try and extort more money out of Reinsdorf, despite failing with massively talented rosters that were often picked to win the division. Some were even built to his exact specifications (rotating DH bulls***). Knowing he wasn't getting a raise, Ozzie wanted to leave, so he upstaged Mark Buehrle's final start as a White Sox pitcher by asking for a release. To get released with a year left on his contract, that means he had to knowingly tank the team. Ozzie Guillen knowingly made bad move after bad move to destroy the White Sox record last year so he could go get more money in South Beach because he is a greedy son of a b**** who's ego enabled him to let his children destroy this franchises infrastructure. If the GM had just been allowed to do his job and the manager just done his without letting his ego get in the way, the White Sox would have a few more AL Central titles under they're belt right now. And Coop is the one with ego problems? Get that bulls*** out of here. I applaud you.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) I agree....I have seen the other 60-70 guys that do this job and I can tell you most of them suck ass... One of my personal favorites is Jim Palmer. Mark Grace does a nice job for the DBacks. Don Orsillo is good on Nesn. Of course I love Vin Scully. Ray Fosse is excellent in Oakland, and Glen Kuiper, their pbp man is pretty solid too. Other than that there aren't a whole lot of guys I can tolerate, whether they are color guys or pbp. Some especially awful guys? Dick Bremer on the Twins broadcast, Rick Manning in Cleveland (talk about a dick), Buck Martinez in Toronto, Gary Thorne in Baltimore, Mark Gubicza and Victor Rojas in Anaheim. What's so bad about Gary Thorne?

The new Galaxy S III is also $800 without a contract. I wouldn't even pay $800 for a computer.

Technology catch-all thread
I tried the new S-Voice app (Siri-like app by Samsung) that comes with the new Galaxy S III today. Surprisingly, it works pretty well. It leaked the other day and you'll have to do some modifications to your phone (you need root) to run it properly.
