Chapter 151: the future (6:10pm, CSN)
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Glad to see he's doing well. He has only 34 RBIs all year though? Yikes. Who would have thought Beckham would have such a crap season. If he does this again next year, what makes him any better than somebody like Getz? Beckham is a good fielder, though, damn good. Nobody in front of him gets on base. It's not his fault he has 34 RBIs.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) I'd like to see something like this in 2012 C AJ 6m Flowers .4m 1B Konerko 12m 2B Beckham .6m* SS 3B Morel .5m* LF De Aza .5m* Lillibridge .6m* CF Rios 12m RF Viciedo 3.25m DH Dunn 14M UT Escobar .4m SP Buehrle 10m* SP Peavy 17m SP Sale 1m* SP Humber 1m* SP Stewart .5M* RP Crain 4.5M RP Ohman 2.5M RP Reed .5m Assuming a payroll of around $105m with additions at short and the pen needed. I might sign someone like Ramon Santiago for 2y/5m. That would be 20 players at about $85m. As I've said before, I'd stock up on pitching for Danks, Floyd, Thornton, Santos, Quentin, and Ramirez. With the economy the way it is, I wouldn't expect more than 75% value in return for that group, however. You do realize that you're getting rid of one of the best SS in the AL by trading Ramirez right? He's cheap for how much he actually does give you.

Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Somebody on this board wrote the other day Florida was going to sign him for (four) years. Why the venom with me repeating that? If a guy is 'total trash' then why would another team give him a nice deal?? Florida's manager is an 80 something year old. They'd take just about any established ML manager instead.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Simply disagree. That guy was not going to be an effective player for the last 2 years. He'd have looked like Beckham. He was never given the chance to show otherwise really.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) KC fans have no reason to laugh at anybody. They haven't played a meaningful baseball game in about 20 years. We could be the laughing stock in all of baseball. But there's teams with larger payrolls that suck even more, so that doesn't happen.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) People in the KC area are laughing at the Sox and Ozzie. Not even our eternal optimists can't think of a reason Ozzie should still be managing, let alone get an extension. Your team needs to cut their losses and start fresh. Greg says people in Lawrence think otherwise...even "sabes" people.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) 3-4 years ago everyone here was wishing they could get Cabrera from the Yankees and Frenchy wasn't even reasonable enough to be a crazy idea. This season is Francouer's first above average season since 2007 (and he wasn't even great that year). Unless Francouer discovers the idea that making outs = bad, he will continue to be mediocre at best from an offensive perspective. Same goes for Cabrera. I don't see both of them doing this next season. Alex Gordon is making Dayton Moore look really stupid for keeping him down in the minors for the majority of the past two seasons. That guy can play.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) If Mark stays, we have to keep him away from facing KC. They finally have assembled a pile of hitters that he just cant get out. Melky Cabrera kills Mark Buehrle every time. I don't know what it is, but Melky has Buehrle all figured out.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) It's part of the Internet world that resembles my old Queen of Martyrs grade school playground. I find it very interesting myself, this world we call message boards. Just because I disagree with the popular view I am evil and/or mocked. I don't care, though. I am a Sox fan like the rest of the people with more than 500 posts. And this is a playground not life and death. Nobody says you're evil. But people mock you here because they find it hard to have an actual discussion with you on any topics concerning Ozzie Guillen, Bobby Jenks, and a slew of other things on which you have an unpopular opinion of. It's fine to have a differing opinion as long as you're willing to prove that your opinion is noteworthy enough for other people to take seriously. Otherwise, people mock you. It's not just like this on the internet...this applies almost everywhere in our society.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) Just learned that the Royals are the first team in league history to have 3 OFs with 40 or more doubles in the same season. And only one of those outfielders is actually good and will be good for a while.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Danny Richar. I really don't know what the f*** I saw in that guy. Saw decent numbers in the minors when we traded for him and figured he would... actually I don't even know. Damn. This is kinda embarrassing. Hawk was also high on him. But then again, he's high on every Sox prospect.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) You realize Royce Clayton is in Moneyball, right? He plays Miguel Tejada. That's so bad...haha. At least the actors that play David Justice and Scott Hatterberg don't look that out of place.

Who benefits the most?
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) So if the papers are to be believed and we see an entirely new coaching staff outside of Coop next season, which player benefits the most? I've got to go with Gordo. This is a guy who we has exhibited a beautiful swing and approach in the past and has "adjusted" right out of it. I look for Gordo to start being the guy we thought he could be if he has a new hitting coach and manager. Considering how Oz talked s*** about Gordo in '09, I don't get the feeling that Beckham likes playing for Ozzie.....and Walker should've (did if not for JR) lost his job because of the way Beckham is swinging the bat now. Every hitter but Konerko will benefit when Walker is gone.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) Pitch fx has had him at about an average velocity of 95 since he came up, and in 06-07 he'd occasionally top 100. He had a yer in 08 where he didn't hit 100 then he brought it back. 08 was also his worst season. He either had dead arm in 08 or stopped doing what he did before that. I'm not sure how long he can sustain throwing 100 though.

I'm starting to think Verlander is on PEDs. Since when did he throw 101? He threw 97-98 max when he first came up in the majors.
