  1. There's a lot of speculation threads that say people are favoring this guy or another, but I'd like to see what Soxtalk thinks as a whole. So this is kind of a prediction/what do you want kind of thread.
  2. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Ala Dave Wannstedt. Still not sold that just because he's been in Maddon's jock for the past few years that he's THE s***! I'll still take Alomar... What has Alomar done that makes him a better candidate?
  3. Dallas McPherson...lawl.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Greg- I want you to consider something. You seem like a very loyal guy. Loyal to players, coaches and managers that had a lot of meaning to the organization. Even well after their prime, you defend them. There is something good about that. But let me ask you this. Let's say you are in Jerry Reinsdorff's shoes. He too is a very loyal guy (which alone should tell you something here). The organization has had multiple disappointing years in a row, despite your spending of a lot of money. You've got two people under him, that over the past month, have done this: Person #1 offered to step down to a lower role due to the failures of the team. Person #2 asked repeatedly for a raise and a long term contract, despite those same failures. So, if loyalty is your game... which of those two do you keep? Because it seems to me that you are backing the wrong horse here, based on your own admitted tendencies. This is gonna be good.
  5. Definitely my favorite pitcher of all time. I'd like him back, but business is business.
  6. The Sox can wait for the Rays to do whatever. If time is really that much of an issue, then hope Boston somehow wins tomorrow and Tampa loses. Dave Martinez is 20x the candidate Alomar is.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) Perhaps this is relevant, but I just went back and checked the winning percentage for the Sox since KW took over. According to my calculations, it's .530. Ozzie's winning percentage is .524. Relevance!!!!!!!!
  8. Did he just compare MJ and Guillen? WTF?
  9. If everybody is staying put, I'm assuming we're going to hire somebody from within the organization already (probably Buddy Bell). Which is just disappointing...
  10. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) The guided missile pressure button has been removed, and I guess you have to play real defense now. Also youth squads/scouting is in Manager Mode, so that's huge for me. Can't wait to play it tonight. I hear it has been improved greatly. The reviews are great (at least the IGN one I read). It looks like a more authentic game of soccer, which is good for those who really enjoy it, but bad for those who just want to have fun by scoring a s*** ton of goals. I think I might give it a try when I have the time. I personally liked PES 11 with player mods better than FIFA 11.
  11. Happy birthday!
  12. Harold just stands at first base. But hey, at least he doesn't get in the way!
  13. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Import Issue: What happen's with the #13 for the White Sox? Does it get the JaMarcus Russell toxic treatment where no one gets to wear it? Or is it given away right away as a slap in the face? I know greg's answer, but retiring it right away was not one of the options I gave haha I don't think Greg understands how much you have to mean to the franchise to get your number retired. Ozzie wasn't a good player when he was here and he was marginal as the manager. I don't know how that deserves getting your number retired.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) 1.) How KW keeps his job after signing the worst player in baseball and signing Rios and Peavy ... it is just amazing. If Oz is gone, KW should be gone. Although they are spinning it that Oz left on his own. 2.) If he said it like an ass, KW is lucky Cora didn't pop him in the mouth. Cora couldn't pop himself in the mouth.
  15. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:57 AM) subtopic is a little off he didn't ask to be traded, nor did he resign he asked for his release and the Sox obliged They didn't even have to do that. They could have just ate the $2 million and let him not manage.
  16. What Morel is now is pretty close to the hitter he was last season when he came up with the Sox (looking to pull the ball). He definitely got some bad advice from somebody by trying to become a slap hitter earlier in the year. But if he keeps his current approach, he should be a a decent hitter with good power.
  17. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) Robert Andino = New Bucky Dent? haha That guy killed us too, especially Mark Buehrle.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:05 AM) Follow the thread. Ozzie lovers didn't turn it to the darkside. This is the third post of the thread... Yeah, you tell me what the worst day of my fandom is supposed to be... Are you telling me this is worse than getting swept in the ALDS in 2000? Is this worse than nearly losing the division to the Twins in 08? Is this worse than losing the Rays in the ALDS in 08? I mean speak for yourself not for everybody like you're the majority of the consensus. Because you're clearly not.
  19. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:22 AM) It was one of the most dominating post seasons in MLB history. Does that buy you wins in 2012? I didn't say it meant absolutely nothing, the accomplishment will lie in the history books forever. But the objective of the front office is to produce a team that will win next year. Whatever has happened before should be irrelevant in that respect.
  20. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:21 AM) Bad? Mark had a couple of back to back starts in which he got knocked around, but before that he tied a franchise record with 18 consecutive games allowing just three or less runs. He was great until after the ASB. But as I said, Buehrle's been a guy who has struggled down the stretch these past few years. Most notably 2009 and this season. Sure, teams will like him for what he is, an innings eater who will put up a good ERA, but had he not been so bad as of late, his ERA would have been around 3, not near 4. That lowers his market value substantially.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:16 AM) LOL. This means Williams is a butt kisser. Good job, KW. You won the battle. You sucked up to the right guy, your boss, whereas Oz won't stoop to kissing anybody's butt IMO. Kenny's always quiet, what's your point? He usually doesn't say the wrong things, in comparison to Ozzie at least.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:33 AM) Best head to head record out of the 3 teams gets a bye if you will while the other 2 teams play a tiebreaker game with the winner playing the 3rd team for the right to go to the playoffs. If only the Angels didn't play like s*** this past week. Maybe that could have happened this year.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) When I was watching the Kenny press conference, all I could think was, "why are you still here?" The guy should be gone. Period. He looked like he just woke up from a nap or something. But yeah, I wouldn't mind Kenny getting the boot either.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) Why can't the Ozzie haters say at least, "Thanks for the memories." I would think that will come in coming days or months. The man is not evil, folks. You can't take away 2005. And our favorite team's failures are not all on this man. Give him his props, please. Or consider doing so. Go look at the Ozzie appreciation thread...almost everyone has.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) 1.) He should hold out for 4 years. I still wouldn't be surprised if it's four year deal. Three years ain't bad, though. 2.) Give me a break. He will manage there a long, long time IMO. Great part of the country; he likes NL ball; team gets very little media attention so no need for him to be stressed. 3.) How do u know? It's not official yet. At least give me credit if it's announced 4 years like u are calling me out prematurely. If you have predicted that Ozzie will win multiple World Series in Florida, how is it preposterous for Milk to state that he could get fired? After all, Ozzie's gotten more fines, suspension, and bad publicity than the number of World Series he has won.
