  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Where can I find pitcher's run support numbers? Looked on BR/Fangraphs and am coming up empty. Phillip has gotta be getting like three runs a game. ESPN has them.
  2. I thought that ball was gone off the bat.
  3. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) He had 35 doubles in 2008 and 41 last year. He won't come close to that this year, I'll admit. But to say he's very below average really isn't fair. He's sort of a poor man's...John Olerud? OBP is a lot lower, but other than that, they're quite comparable. Or maybe a Wally Joyner. And nobody ever gave those two any slack for their lack of power. I'm not saying Loney's one of the best first basemen in baseball. He's decent, for sure, and when talking about having a guy with .174 BA and record-breaking K pace replace him, he definitely doesn't deserve to be called below average. Olerud hit for a lot more power and got on base a lot more. There's a huge difference between a .400 OBP (Olerud) and a .340 OBP (Loney). Plus, Olerud was a great defensive 1B. Loney's just above average.
  4. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I hate those damn sabermetrics, I mean who cares about war and whatever, bill James never played and he's gotten rich on these stupid stats This is why I like to just stick with OBP and OPS now when I post. People tend to understand those more and I won't have to deal with people complaining about complexity and mental masturbation. You can cancel the postgame show.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) LMAO. How is this possible? Every person in the universe would have laughed at you if you told them that Adam Dunn would be hitting .175 with 7 homers in late June. s***, if I woke up from a coma and saw Dunn's numbers, I'd literally say, "is this real life?"
  6. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Umm, Loney's hitting .280. And he has three straight years of 88 or more RBIs. He's not a superstar, but he doesn't flat out suck... For a 1B, he has no power. His OBP isn't that good. He's an adequate fielder and that's the only thing he does well. He's a gap power hitter playing 1B, which makes him very below average.
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) No reason to even discuss anyone other than Justin Verlander for the Cy Young at this point. Jered Weaver's actually been better. Not by much though. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=2011&ind=0
  8. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Not even the Dodgers, if MLB takes full control? When they controlled the Rangers last year they spent money to build a postseason team. Maybe Bud Selig will do his buddy Jerry a favor and take Dunn off his hands... Dunn actually makes a bit of sense for LA. James Loney flat out sucks.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) One run on 7 hits. Gotta love the efficiency of this offense. It's what happens when you hit 6 singles.
  10. The lack of power displayed by this team in the past two days has been extremely disturbing.
  11. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Did Walker get into details about what Dunn is doing wrong? I think that Dunn's long swing forces him to have to start his swing early, and his poor knowledge of AL pitchers and inability to time them is making him highly susceptible to swings at bad pitches and missing any ball with movement on it. Not really. He talked more about Konerko.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Hey, I despise Soriano. But he's never been this bad (offensively). Not even close. Their wRC+ is off by 5 points (Soriano had 83). Considering how much money Soriano makes, I'd say you got less for the buck with him.
  13. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) One would think that's not even possible. Sac flies. Somebody needs to tell Morel to at least walk once in a while. It's embarrassing to have a ML hitter with no power and absolutely no ability to get on base on anything but singles and the occasional double.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) And even he'll give you the glove. Adam Dunn is one of the top 5 worst players in baseball and he's making $14 million dollars a year. Soriano was exactly that two years ago.
  15. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) I wonder what Walker is trying to do with him. Maybe Dunn will refuse Walker's advice, and find himself in the same situation as Swisher eventually did... I don't think Dunn refuses. Walker was on the Score this morning and said he doesn't want Dunn to change anything drastic, because what he's done has worked for so long. Walker does work with Konerko a lot and he says he tells Dunn to walk away when he's talking to Konerko about hitting. It might just be the opposite.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) And I will always say that certainstats can be highly over-rated. A walk isnt' the same as a hit. It just isn't. And some of those stats pretty much rate a walk as a pure equivalent to a hit. In close games, a walk doesn't knock in the winning run. When you aer hitting .217, you are worthless, unless pretty much every one of your hit is a HR. wOBA actually weighs singles more than walks. In comparison, OPS says single = walk. So take it for what it's worth I guess.
  17. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Rios has adjusted his swing, and it's paying off. Does anyone know if Dunn has tried anything different? Only the pre-swing stuff. He's either wiggling the bat when he's getting read to swing or having it rest on his shoulder. That's the only alteration I've seen him make.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Both are incredibly unacceptable to me. One's horrid, the other, especially this year, is actually very acceptable. I believe a .342 wOBA is something like 10% above league average this season. I'm not saying it's okay for Dunn to put up a .342 wOBA, but I'd definitely trade that for what he's done at home so far.
  19. Jayson Werth's another bad signing. He's getting twice the money Dunn's getting.
  20. It's obvious home games are taking a huge toll on Dunn's mind. He's hitting .131 at home. He's actually hitting .217 on the road with a .370 OBP and a .342 wOBA. The pressure's getting to him. If you want him to hit, you don't boo him. For once, I'll have to go with the company line.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) Rios is just as bad as dunn one K's and walks the other K's and pops out on the infield Rios has actually been hitting.
  22. Ozzie has to drop Dunn down to 7th or 8th. He's killing rallies.
  23. I honestly feel bad for Dunn. The guy's never been this bad in his 10 year career before. Must be a horrible feeling.
  24. Livan's just gonna pitch around Konerko to get to Dunn. Ugh. It feels like we have a pitcher batting 5th.
