  1. How funny would it be if Humber, you know, does that thing Mark Buehrle did twice?
  2. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) Beckham looks like he did last April. Really disappointing, I was a bit worried with all the predictions of him having a huge year this year... He started the year hitting so well too. Just like last year.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) Hell, put Dunn there and hope he can get on base for Quentin/Konerko Ozzie will never allow that to happen.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) Since I dont have a PS, is PSN being down related to the GeoHot/Sony thing? Might be semi-related. Anonymous says it's not their doing and I wouldn't trust Sony saying it's an "external" attack. They're probably buffing up their security on the network.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) can't b**** about Q You'd think with PK and Q hitting well, this offense would still be able to score some runs. I guess not.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) Sick catch by Gardner there. That's a triple if that gets past him. Time to try someone else in the 2nd spot, as Alexei seems in between now. Who else is there to try? Beckham's not gonna go back there until he can hit the damn ball. Definitely not Morel. A.J.'s not hitting anything hard either.
  7. Whatever Morel is doing now, it ain't working. He needs to go back to his mechanics and stance from last season. Bring the hands up a bit more like last season.
  8. QUOTE (Andrew @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) You should've heard Michael Kay on YES when that pretty routine fly ball was hit. I guess A-Rod's fly balls are easy to get excited over.
  9. lol Hawk gets excited after Quentin catches a pretty routine fly ball.
  10. Tex might have hit that ball out of Yankee Stadium had he connected well.
  11. There goes the perfect game.
  12. Rios has been bad since last year's ASB. He was one of the best players in baseball during the first half of last season and then he fell off a freaking cliff. Instead of driving the ball and hitting line drives in the second half of the season, he decided to just hit grounders up the middle the entire time.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) I'm curious what people think of this strategy. If that really his reasoning, why not just go with the LaRussa move and bat the pitcher 8th? The thing he doesn't bring up is that he's giving Aaron freaking Miles the most PAs on the entire team, which is just sad. Carroll's not a good player by any means, but Miles is barely a ML bench player.
  14. Too bad the ball couldn't get to the wall.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) He's never hit for a lot of power. At best, scouts projected 15-20 in the majors. But yes, it's pathetic how awful Walker is with young talent. Morel had an ISO of .183 in AAA last year. .185 in his brief stint with the Sox. Those are decent marks that represent a 15-20 home run hitter. Morel looks like he might hit 1 home run all year right now.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) Well, that was a pathetic at bat by Morel. He'll be back in Charlotte by mid May. You really shouldn't be playing in our park with a corner infielder who has no power. I'm pretty sure he does have power. The problem is that he's on the 2009 Josh Fields hitting routine right now. How does Fields go from hitting 23 homers in about 300 ABs in 2007 to becoming a power-less below .400 SLG hitter in a matter of 2 years? Sure, his 2008 was pretty bad, but I don't see how a player's ability to hit for power can be killed that easily unless he was hurt and is still hurt. It looks as if Morel is on the same road. He had a lot of power last year and had a couple of home runs in a very limited stretch. Then he comes into this year hitting nothing but singles and ground balls. Something's gotta give. I'm not saying Morel is anywhere the power hitter Josh Fields was in 07, but it's just a weird trend that I see. AND WTF, STOP WITH THE f***ING BUNTS!
  17. Pierre's playing scared in the OF. This team is in a mental funk right now all around.
  18. I haven't been watching lately, but what the hell is wrong with Beckham?
  19. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:06 AM) It's weird, the first month or 2 after the trade, he was scoring at an effective rate, had good assist numbers, and basically looked like the player he was a few seasons ago when we made the finals. And since then he has fallen apart. He doesn't drive to the basket anymore, and he takes so many off balance horrible jump shots when he doesn't have to. Right now, this is the most concerned I've been as a Magic fan since the day that T-Mac demanded to be traded. We are at a real crossroads right now. A lot of Orlando fans are calling for Otis Smith the GM to be canned. He's done a decent job at finding talent over the years, but he's made some horrible trades and overpaid for free agents. I always wonder how this team would look with Courtney Lee as the 2 guard right now. He picked up Vince Carter on the downswing, and Marcin Gortat has turned out to be the best player in that 5 player trade. And there are big rumors that Houston is going to go all out for SVG in the off-season. And I wouldn't be shocked if he goes, as I think he sees the writing on the wall in terms of Dwight, and Houston have an owner who'll spend to win. I'm hoping that a new CBA comes in that will allow us to cut Arenas in the off-season, J-Rich walks, we sign Affalo as a replacement, and we work a trade for Johnny Flynn (even if it includes Nelson). A core of Flynn-Affalo-Turk-Bass and Howard for next season would give us a much better team look. Everyone's speculating that Howard's going to be a Laker from 2012 onwards. Not sure how they would do that cap wise (sign and trade with Bynum?), but I think the Nets are a team to watch in that scenario. I was always confident he would stay, but that was based on us contending. Right now, I'm much more pessimistic. Jonny Flynn...the dude with a 44% TS...for Jameer Nelson? You're doing Felix and the T-Wolves a hell of a favor there. The guy's ORtg's never cracked 100 yet these past two years. A lot of teams are gonna be after Affalo if he doesn't re-up with Denver. The Bulls will definitely be one of them.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:20 AM) Man really? he has a whole 55 ABs in 15 games.. come on people.. hes gonna get like 500 more ABs this season The guy hits .240-.250 you're gonna have to accept that, the avg is going to be low.. but he hasn't hit less than 38 HR's since 2003 so statistically the odds are he is going to hit anywhere between 35-40 HRs by the time this season is over.. Stats are so overrated.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Wow. Talk about advanced statistics! If you guys want to take situational run expectancy into account, then this should be useful: http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902.html (these are not updated for today's scoring standards, BTW) So for instance, if the starter allows a single with nobody out in the 7th. Then the relevancy of this stat Sqwert is thinking of is pretty low. If you look at the run expectancies with nobody out, it's just like the way ERA is currently calculated anyway with some slight variations here or there. If you take the number of outs into consideration, then it changes the stat completely. So there's something else to take into account as well. So if Buehrle leaves the game with a guy on first and two out, and Will Ohman allows a two run home run, then Mark should really be charged for 1/4 of a run, not the whole run, mostly because the he a) pitched 2/3 of the inning anyway and b) he shouldn't be penalized completely for Will Ohman being bad. As for taking hitter performances in certain situations into account, that will be extremely difficult. It's a sample size issue. Just because Brent Morel might be 1/2 with the bases loaded in the 7th doesn't mean he's a great hitter in these situations. You might be able to do it with say, Paul Konerko, because he's probably been in that situation at least 50-100 times in his career. But it's not something that could be done for everyone. BTW, I think RBI and advanced statistics should never be mentioned together.
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) Boston still has very strong schemes which is where they excel. Allen was not known as a strong defender and neither was Pierce before Thibs. The scheme is what makes them. What you did for Boston and Miami, I can very easily do for the Bulls. Bogans sucks period Rose is still a bad defender Deng is super strong Boozer sucks Noah is strong Brewer is strong Korver sucks Gibson is good In this day in age, with zone defense, it makes no sense to go up and down a player list and say they suck because schemes can hide anyone's bad defense. BTW, I suggest people look at the Hornets game and see what Chris Paul is doing. The way he directs every player and knows every spot and literally points out weaknesses to his players and points of attack are great. I won't even get started on his numbers. Bogans is not a terrible defender. There's a reason why Thibbs is still starting him. It's not because of some stupid man-love (well, maybe it is), but the only reason Bogans is getting minutes is because of his defense and his inconsistent, yet somewhat productive 3 point shooting. He absolutely made Ray Allen look like crap in the last meeting against Boston and he can hold his own against most SGs in the league.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Why not? They're much better defensive teams than Indiana, and have much better players than Indiana. And it's not like Indiana is playing harder than they would, this is the playoffs and everybody plays hard. Neither team has the big-men depth the Pacers have. McRoberts, Hibbert, and Foster (hell, even Hansbrough), as challenged as they are offensively, are guys who can play good enough defense and prevent Rose from having a easy time at the basket. Outside of Garnett, the Celtics interior is quite weak on the defensive end (especially if they don't have Shaq). Bosh is not a strong defender, Joel Anthony is a joke, and Big Z doesn't really pose much of a threat on the inside either for Miami. The Heat got a nice matchup in Philadelphia, who have no guys that can play a tough inside game. If the Heat got the Indiana draw, they would probably be in a similar situation to the Bulls.
