This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) Yeah, the Devil Rays and Mariners swapped Lou Piniella and Randy Wynn a few years ago. I thought they made it illegal to do that after that trade.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 02:01 AM) There is just no way the Marlins would do that. Especially for just a one year contract that Ozzie has. It's like trading Emilio Bonifacio for Gordon Beckham.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) In an odd way, I can't wait to hear what J4L thinks about this. It's too good to be true. So he can't possibly get mad at KW.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) Uh what the f***? Nice dream world there, sun times. This is something I would have expected from Cowley.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:45 AM) My guess is that the Sox indeed did talk terms, but the Sox asked for Stanton, not the Marlins offering him. Even asking for him would be apes*** crazy to say the least. Hell, I woulda taken Gaby Sanchez and ran with that.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) 99% probability of not being true. But yes please. God, can you imagine if this was? I really wonder what the hell was going on in the front office that made this not go through.

2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
Ron Washington is finally being exposed for the bad manager he is in this series. Two games just got away in the blink of an eye.

Sun Times Article And I thought Lou Pinella for Randy Winn was bad... This has to be some sort of joke right?

A couple of insights on the Twins
There was an article on FanGraphs about Jason Kubel and how the Twins shouldn't really retain him. In the article, it talked about a whole lot of decisions the Twins need to make. They don't have much salary to play around with either. I think they have about $60 million tied up in Mauer ($23 million), Cuddyer ($11 million), Morneau ($14 million), and Nathan ($11.25 million). That might give them $40 million to spend on 21 other guys. O-Dog is a free agent, as is Pavano. Those two could easily demand around $15 million together. Then you also have Thome, who's going to be worth at least $5 million. Jason Kubel is due for $5.25 million (even though he was no good last year) and Hardy and Capps are arb-eligible. With his 40 saves, Capps, should be getting around $8 million from the arbitrator. Matt Guerrier is a free agent and guys like Liriano and Crain could get decent raises due to arbitration. So if the Twins want to retain most of the team they had for 2010, they're going to need to spend a decent portion of that $40 million on O-Dog, Thome, Pavano, Kubel, and Capps (I'd say around $35 million). So that leaves them $5 million before they hit the $100 million mark. Not to mention they still have to pay around 15 other guys on the roster (most of whom are cheap, but still). So yeah, the Twins don't have that much flexibility. If they lose Pavano, their rotation takes a huge hit and while they don't have to pay Capps (since Nathan will be back, although we don't know how good he will be), it might be a good idea to keep him (they did give up Wilson Ramos).

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) No one thought he would get $5.5 million last year either. He just came off a season with a .400+ OBP and he also had a career year in 07. It's a bit different this time around since he played like 25 games last year.

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) I really doubt Nick Johnson gets the league minimum. He'll get something close to it. If the Sox got Andruw Jones for $550 k, Johnson can't cost more than a million. The deal will probably be a cheap base with lots of incentives.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) He hid the ball well and did the little toe tap which I'm sure messed with the hitters timing a little bit. As for the Rangers, I'd bet on CJ Wilson and Colby Lewis coming back to earth pretty hard next season, they better find some pitching elsewhere imo. I think Lewis is for real. Wilson on the other hand, could run into regression issues.

2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 03:44 AM) How do the radical NL haters on here who act like any performance in the NL (Richard, Hudson) doesn't mean squat because it's the NL, explain the Giants rouging up Lee tonight? I grow tired of the NL is s*** argument. NL 1, AL 0. And yes I still think Texas wins it in 6. You do realize that it's just one game right? Did you forget that Lee raped the NL last year?

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) Adam Dunn's career numbers close and late: 47 HR, .858 OPS. High leverage: 77 HR, 925 OPS. Career OPS in Extra innings: 1.291. You can make a case that he isn't that great in the 8th and 9th innings overall, but the close and late stats and the leverage-stats suggest he'll do damage when it counts. The one thing taht will hurt him is that he has an .817 career OPS against LHP, which is good but nothing like the damage he does against righties. The "40 garbage time home runs" line makes you look worse than Adam Dunn's defense. That says a lot.

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I would like to see the Sox go after Kerry Wood though. He can help fill that 7th and 8th inning set up role And Kerry Wood has never been hurt...
-
Nick Johnson
What I don't get is that some people seem to think that even if we pay the guy league minimum and he gets hurt, it's still somehow a bad move. When Nick Johnson's healthy, he's a very good offensive player. So what the hell is there to lose?

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) OTOH...they have Dominic Brown ready to step in for Werth, and that's going to at least add another dimension to their offense. Utley had an un-utleyian season, Howard had a down season, and Rollins was hurt most of the year. There's plenty of room for bounce-back on those guys, Howard, Utley, and Rollins are 30 and 31, not in their late 30's. Utley's 32 next year, as will Rollins. Howard's going to be 32. Rollins has had two bad seasons in a row (somewhat due to injury) and Howard seems like a type of hitter that can regress with age very easily. Victorino is going to be 30 and Ruiz will be 32.Then you have Polanco at 36 and Ibanez at 39. Brown will be the only under 30 player of the bunch. This is definitely a Phillies team that will start regressing in the near future, especially on offense.

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) You said they would never have a legit chance to win it all again, yet their offense will still be better than the Giants this year, even if they lose Werth. Anything can happen in the playoffs obviously, but I would put up Halladay/Oswalt/Hamels against any other team in the league. It doesnt always work out, but their chances are still decent next year. I never said they would never have a legit chance again, I even put a second adjective next to legit (super) to clarify that they will have a chance next year, but they won't be the heavy favorite like they were this year.

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) Probably the lowest rates since 2005. Ratings have gone down every year for a while now. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/ws/wstv.shtml

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) He said they won't have a super legit chance to win it all again. I get that the playoffs are a crapshoot. But just getting there is half the battle and with those 3 starters, they definitely have a chance to win it again. Will it happen? Who knows. But to act like their window is closed is kinda crazy. Nobody said it was closed. I was saying it was starting to close.

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 07:14 AM) You're saying they will be a playoff team next year. They have Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels, and even with those 3 and the offense they have, they won't have a legit chance at winning it all? LMAO. They had them this year and look what happened... Their offense sucked this postseason and it's not going to get much better since they have some aging players and Werth will probably be gone.

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) Who is the 3rd? Zito and Rowand are givens, but I really can't think of another contract that can be considered among the worst in the game. Renteria was a bad contract, but yeah, it's not one of the worst. Honestly, that deal made absolutely zero sense. Renteria came off a terrible season and he still got paid like he hit .330.

2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) Still, with the way Lee is going this post season, i's hard to say that trade wasn't bad. It's not like Roy Halladay did like s***.
