Rafael Soriano signs with Yankees
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) The Dan Haren trade was an outlier of a deal and comparing it to the Jackson deal is ridiculous. The same GM completed both trades. I don't think it's ridiculous to look at what the Angels gave up for a far superior pitcher.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Has anyone ever taken part in the dunk contest with less dunks than Brandon Jennings has up to that given date? I know he was injured but he has 2 dunks. 2, Two, To, Too, Dos, Du Is Jennings even good at dunking?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) What have the Tigers actually done this offseason to get better? Benoit signing, they kept Ordonez, anything else? They probably get Zumaya back next year I'd imagine. Victor Martinez.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) The Tigers will be lucky to be an 83 team as made up now. Probably more like 78 or 79. I think their season pretty much rests on whether or not Porcello can become a good third option and if they can find a decent 5th starter.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) 93 offensively/defensively, 94 pitching. In recent years in the ALC, 93/94 wins you the division. Do people think the 2011 Twins or Tigers are 93/94 win teams on paper? Don't know, but I would doubt it. This is all talent-based and I'd say the Sox are more talented than both of those teams. wRC has the Sox at 777 runs scored. This is the year!

I smell 93 wins... These are park adjusted and the PAs and innings all add up correctly.

Rafael Soriano signs with Yankees
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) No it's not...not until Hudson proves he can pitch (and no, 2 months last year doesn't prove anything). Dan Haren didn't even yield anything close to the talent Hudson is. How the hell did Edwin Jackson? It's evident Kenny overpaid.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) McGee is actually a pretty damn good dunker though. Not a bad choice. I know. I just thought people would still remember him for that terrible dunk attempt. Not the free throw line one. But this one...lol.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) Participants for the dunk contest officially announced. Blake Griffin, Brandon Jennings, JaVale McGee and Serge Ibaka. Apparently LeBron ONCE AGAIN was considering participating but cited concern over the wear and tear the grueling event would put on his 6'8, 260 LB body. Javale McGee, haha. After he completely missed a dunk by prematurely jumping? Weird.

Nationals broke deal on Dunn/Jackson
So I guess it wasn't completely Rizzo's doing.

Did some more in-depth work. Combined CAIRO, Bill James, and Fan projections from FanGraphs together with my own defensive numbers (the ones CAIRO had didn't make much sense). PA number makes sense, playing time is divided out right, so if these are the 15 guys who are going to be coming in and out for the team this year, these projections should be somewhat accurate. These are not park adjusted though.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Ok, now take out Infante/Carter or whoever you have as the worst bullpen arm, and replace him with Soriano. What does that give us? 92 wins? Maybe 93? I didn't even include either of them. CAIRO blows for projecting unknowns. Hell, I'd say it sucked at projecting even guys like Beckham. Soriano's probably a 1.5 win reliever. So it'd be 92 wins I think.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) With no real competition for him, unless the Angels were there, why so much for so long for Beltre? Probably because Boras is his agent. Plus, he's really freaking good.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) has anybody read up on the whole thing with the hackers compromising the PS3's security? I dont know much about it but from what ive heard soon people will be able to burn signed backups of PS3 games and use them on any PS3 system without the need for any mod chip at all. just plop the burned copy into anyones PS3 and play away. And apparently there is nothing Sony can do about it without having to change the entire hardware of the PS3. That sounds good to me, i love paying $5 for video games.. charging 65 bucks a game is almost as much a robbery as a mechanic charging a person with no vehicle know-how $600 to replace an alternator.. Edit: Found This http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalf...rity-in-tatters The funny thing is that Sony made the worst programming mistake ever. That security key is supposed to be impossible to solve since there's random numbers in it. But somehow, Sony didn't randomize the number, it's the same every time. Looks like somebody's getting fired. I will also jump on that hack when I get the chance. I hack almost every electronic device I have.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) No, they were doing pretty terrible in TDM as well. That's why I checked their player card, wondering if it was a "little brother playing his older brother's account" thing. They just weren't very good despite playing the game for about 240 hours. I'd start getting really bored of the game if I'm not that good at it. They must have nothing better to do. And I meant they probably played a lot of Domination or Capture the Flag, where you can get a good amount of XP without getting kills and that's how they might have gotten to 6th prestige.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Has anyone else run into guys who are like 5th or 6th prestige, but are pretty bad at the game? I'm talking below-even W/L and K/D ratios, but they have like 10 days of playtime. I don't get how you play the game that much but still suck at it. In about a week I've almost worked my way through 1st prestige, and my K/D has been consistently over 1 for a while now. Closer to 1.4 or so over the last two weeks. that's what having the week off of work will do for you, I guess. They must have played a lot of non-death match games then.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) haha the other day we got into a game against a full team of noobs and we were all going like 50-2 and for some reason they kept staying so we got to play games like that for about 4-5 games in a row.. I love to go on Combat Training, play it on recruit, and just go knife all the bots starring at you for three seconds before even pulling the trigger. I usually do that when I'm in a rut or I'm just really bored.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Is he though? I actually like Beltre a lot and obviously his defense is always elite but he's been the definition of a contract year player with the bat. His glove and his ability to stay healthy generate about 3.5 WAR to begin with. So if he's just good with the bat (like an .800+ OPS), he'll get pretty close to 5 WAR. That's only for the next couple of years though, Beltre's not getting any younger.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) The number there is $85 mil/5 years. If that winds up being the final number, then on an annual basis, Beltre is more expensive than Crain + Dunn. On a total contract basis, Beltre would make almost as much as Konerko and Dunn combined. Beltre's probably at least a 5 WAR player if he plays in Texas and stays healthy. I'd say the contract is worth it.
