  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) Well, if Thornton departs after 2011, there's still need for LH pitching in the pen for 2012. The Sox should have sured up Matt long ago. Although he's getting up there in age, so IDK. He's a tough situation next year.
  2. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) 2 years? Ruh oh. Get ready for J4L rant. It better be really cheap or something.
  3. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 12:04 AM) per Rotoworld: The Nets, Nuggets and Pistons are reportedly discussing a deal that would send Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton and Carmelo Anthony to the Nets. What the hell? Just who are the Nets going to give up then? Half their roster?
  4. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) $50 addicting??? $30 on Amazon right now.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) MLBN during the Hot Stove show basically said it like this. It is a good move for the cubs next year to keep the fans interested but then what? In the long run Garza will not produce enough to make up for the lose of the prospects. They think Fuld makes Upton more expendable. Bowa thinks the cub will try and move 'Z' to the Yanks. Personally I think they have a better shot of moving Garza to the Yanks. I really wonder why the Rangers did not get in on this? Sam Fuld is bad. If anything, the fact that the Rays have guys like Jennings, Zobrist, and Joyce make Upton expendable.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) The guy knows what leadership is on winning teams. They brought him in to lead the young players. I know you disagree but there is something to be said about veteran leadership with a young team. Like OC did for them last year...? They overpaid for leadership if you ask me. The Giants only offered Renteria $1 million.

  8. They should have a Kids version and an Adult version. Get rid of the slurs in the kids ones. That way, you can have the book in schools without people complaining and still have the original version accessible to those who are mature enough to handle the content.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Josh Kinney has also been rumored to be one of the NRIs. He had a decent year at AAA Memphis in 2010. 1.80 ERA in 60 innings. 51 K's and WHIP under 1. Remembered he was once a decent reliever with the Cardinals.
  10. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) I wonder what realistic chance either of Brian Bruney or Jeff Gray have at the 7th spot along with Carter, Infante and Nunez?? Bruney might get a shot. I totally forgot those two were even on the team.
  11. Byrdak walks way too many guys and doesn't strike out as many as Ohman. If you thought Ohman walked a good amount, just know that Byrdak's career BB/9 is nearly a half a walk higher than Ohman's. Byrdak's also had years where he went really home run happy.
  12. I can definitely stomach $1.5 million. You have to give Ozzie a LOOGY or else he'll try to use Randy Williams again or something.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Anyon have the Soxtalk PSN list on them? We should get some Black Ops going. I wouldn't mind having this list. I needz more PSN friends.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) I think it's "LOOGY" with 2 O's. And doesn't Ozzie was 12 pitchers, not 11? I would think Anthony Carter may be added to your pen as well. LR - Pena MR - Infante MR - Carter LOOGY - Ohman SU - Crain SU- Santos CL - Thornton Harrell could get the job to be the long man so Pena can slot to middle relief again.
  15. As much as I dislike the notion of intangibles, the Bulls are clearly missing Joakim Noah's. Joakim seemed to energize the team's play. Bulls have looked tired and lazy the past two games. In fact, they've looked similar since Joakim's injury, but they've usually gotten away with it since the teams they played were so bad and also played bad. New Jersey and Philly played pretty well these past couple of days and the result is two losses.
  16. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) Ugh Will Ohman is ok I guess, he owns a career 40% GB%, which is the most important stat for pitchers in our park. The GB% is used to anticipate Fielder Independent Pitching in the Saber community. He Ohman posts that 40% number than his xFIP suggest a 4.24 ERA. Eh OK not great, fine, whatever. Ohman has had 3 season in which he had a Gb% over his career norm, and 3 seasons where he had a Gb% under his career norm. So he is the definition of hit or miss. My question is this. Knowing all this about Ohman, why not just bring back Erik Threets, they are virtually the same pitcher. I know its a small sample size but Threets pitched really well for the sox last year, 55.6 GB %, FIP of 2.84, and xFIP of 3.83. You can have Threets for the league minimum, you probably have to pay Ohman $2M for his services. I dont get it. Who knows? Threets isn't a sure thing. Neither is Ohman, but Ohman's at least done it for longer.

  18. Looks like the Bulls are in a funk.
  19. I just wish those guys would call in when Bernstein's on so he can tell them how stupid they are and hang up on them. That's horrible of a host to do, but it serves some people right.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) How many times does it have to be f***ing proven that signing mediocre relievers to multi-year deals rarely turns out well? Kalapse has done an excellent job of backing this up with solid data. Sure, it's not YOUR money so it's easy to say whatever. But a franchise that's efficient and run properly should be able to produce a competent loogy from within. I agree that you can't give somebody like Ohman more than one year, but as long as we're not giving him the Scott Linebrink treatment, it's not a huge deal.
  21. God I can't stand the Score sometimes. All these stupid Cubs fans are calling in and they're all over the place. One guy calls in and says prospects are there to trade for bigger pieces. For whatever reason, the term cost-controlled player must have never crossed his mind. Another says the Cubs just gave up B prospects. Way to downplay your stupid GM's overpayment. The last one I heard b****es about the Cubs giving up Sam freakin' Fuld. Really?
  22. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Compare John Danks and Matt Garza's numbers they're eerily similar. Not really. Danks has posted higher WARs for the past 3 years and it's really not that close. The only year where Garza might have outperformed Danks was 2009. Danks has actually showed he can be one of the best left handed pitchers in baseball. Garza just screams slightly above average to me.
  23. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) This would not bring the wow factor, but it is much more realistic than Soriano. We don't need Soriano, he's a huge luxury. I'd rather spend whatever we have left on a lesser lefty reliever like Ohman, a back-end starter, or Andruw Jones.
  24. If we sign Ohman, I think this would be an unnecessary deal. I would like Gorzelanny more, but I can't complain.
  25. I wouldn't give Ohman more than one year. 3.98 FIP last year, 3.16 against lefties. I think this might mean Sale will start the season in the rotation.
