  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) More than likely that was Lilly's last start for the Cubs. He'll owe half of the money on his next contract to Mother Nature. You know, I would really like to see a study done on the subject of Ted Lilly and his starts where the wind is blowing in. His fly ball rates and his ERA sure show that he has to be getting lucky somehow.
  2. I really liked last year's. I was sitting there all pissed at Kenny not even budging when the Tigers got Jarrod Washburn (who was then pretty good). Then Jon Heyman tweets something along the lines of "Peavy to the White Sox, I'm not kidding". Oh that next hour was full of joy...

If I hadn't watched Bobby's horrible location, lack of control, and his overall reluctance to throw his curveball this season, I'd actually think he was unlucky. His FIP and xFIP are in the high 2s and he's almost accumulated a whole win above replacement as a reliever. But I have watched him, so I can't say he's really that unlucky.
  4. Went to Wrigley the other day, saw some of the shirts they were selling outside and just started laughing at how bad they were.
  5. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Delmon Young still cant take a walk, but he is batting .314 and has 67 RBI on the year. Batting something like .400 in 'clutch' situations He's hitting .344/.397/.469 in those situations. That entire Twins team hits well with RISP and late in games.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) I noticed his stance is totally different then last year. Still would never throw him a first pitch strike. Hands are lower and he's in a more ready position from the start.
  7. WTF? Why? Jose Bautista is about as flukish as you can get.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/07/21/10/Sox-Dra...&feedID=661 ^ Latest Sox Drawer from Chuck Garfien , all about Beckham, we can find out "Outfield" is back to some extent and how some older fan 'fixed' Becks by writing him a letter. Good read. So all it took for Beckham to realize that he had an uppercut swing was for some 78 year old to write about how Ichiro doesn't upper cut, so you should be more like him? Sounds a bit corny.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Twins win. Thome had 4 plate appearances and no official ABs. Mark Kotsay could never do that.
  10. I'm very sour about UZR at 1B. Plus/Minus is slightly better there.
  11. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Isn't Konerko second worst at first in UZR? Anyway, I absolutely love watching Vizquel play defense, and Alexei's not bad either. His range at 1B is bad, that's a given.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Hah, why would he do that? Because he'd get somewhere around $15 million from the arbitrator and that's pretty much all we're going to have to spend on players next year.

Static opinions of baseball players who are incredibly inconsistent = fail.
  14. If Hudson is dealt, we might see Chris Sale pretty soon. Carlos Torres isn't going to last as a 5th starter for real long.
  15. Fielder would put us in a financial pickle next year. He'd literally hand-cuff this team with his arbitration. You don't need a huge .400 wOBA hitter like Fielder or Dunn. You need somebody who's better than the combined .320 wOBA Kotsay and Jones are putting up. Adam LaRoche, David DeJesus, Luke Scott, they all can do that. You don't want to over-do it.
  16. I think of Daniel Hudson's ceiling as being a Shaun Marcum type pitcher.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) 80% of the time he is a great closer 10% of the time he is a mediocre closer 10% of the time he is the most awful pitcher on the f***ing planet and he has pretty much always been that way, IMO Jenks was a model of consistency back in 07 and 08 before he got hurt. I'd say he's a great closer maybe 50% of the time and a mediocre one 30% of the time. With the other 20% being bad.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) No, no its not and it's stupid to even compare those 2. I answered a question asking if a couple outings had inflated his numbers. They did. And a couple of innings in a game inflated Vazquez's ERA. Just saying that you can't take out extremes.

Bobby's peripherals look good, his problem is consistency.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) See my sig That's where I got my inspirations, believe it or not.
  21. chw42 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Yep, that's a perfectly valid comparison. It's just saying that your way of making Jenks look better isn't valid.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Blackburn is out of the rotation. Duensing is starting Friday in Baltimore. Duensing's a decent pitcher, should bode well for the Twins. Shelly Duncan's error opens up the flood gates. 2-0 Twins, bases loaded, two down. Edit: 4-0 now.
  23. He was loading more, maybe he was trying to hit for more power? I noticed that he's changed his stance at the plate recently. He's now closed, whereas he was either slightly open or wide before.
  24. Jayson Nix = a half-way decent player.
  25. chw42 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Javier Vazquez could take one bad inning out of all of his starts and he'd be a Cy Young contender almost every year. The fact that people would bring up Jenks' bad outings just says that Jenks is wildly inconsistent and can't be relied on at all times.
