Time For a New Leadoff Hitter
I'd like to see De Aza on this roster. Give Pierre something to play for. When he was given a chance last year, he hit real well. It's as if the guy can't hit when there's nothing endangering him.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) I didn't say happy or satisfied, but I think that team could win the east. I don't know about winning the east, especially if LeBron and Bosh go to Miami. But that's at least a 55 win team if Boozer is healthy.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) I know they're all awesome individual players, but I'm not ready to concede that the Heat would be some mega monster with Wade, LBJ, and Bosh. I'm not convinced they'd make a great TEAM. Wade and LBJ are way too similar. One of them would need to take a step back and become the other's running mate. I'd feel comfortable with a Bulls team of Rose, Johnson, Deng, Boozer, and Noah with extra cap space to maybe sign Allen (w/ Deng/Gibson on the bench, or no Deng at all which opens up a couple more solid additions). I sure as hell wouldn't and I think a lot of us would be extremely disappointed and pissed off. At the least, we need to get Bosh.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) He's a rental and good draft picks. In regards to Santos, if the Nats want Santos for Dunn, that's all they get from me, and I'm still not sure I like it. Yeah, which is what I'm a bit afraid of. The Nationals might ask for two of our top prospects. I don't think that's worth it.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) closest would be the first year Shaq went to LA, would have to think back about top 5, but he was still an elite player then Alright, here's another way to phrase this. When's the last time a team had three, THREE top 10 players? Because I'd definitely consider Bosh a top 10 player.

When's the last time a single team had two of the top 5 players in the NBA?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) I can see the Nats having an interest in: Viciedo, Flowers, Hudson, Danks 2, & Santos. I assume it would take between 2 and 3 of those guys depending on who we give up. Dunn is under contract for one more year? He's a rental. So I'm thinking one of those guys, maybe 2 of them if you're talking about Danks2, and a throw-in or two.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) Sergio should be a guy with some serious trade value right now if the Sox wanted to make a move for a bat, and they can do so without killing their bullpen for this year since Santos is the 4th guy in it. If Kenny plans on paying Putz and Jenks a combined $14 million next season and not risk other off-season acquisitions, I wouldn't really care if he traded Santos away. But he's not going to do that.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) Even though he hasn't been as sharp as early in the season, with his stuff and to a team not contending this year, I imagine Santos would have some value, although it obviously is a hit to the MLB roster for this season for the Sox, so it would have to be a balancing act. Santos is a big part of this team's future. With both Putz and Jenks possibly leaving after this season, you need him more than ever.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) I keep hearing that, but where has that actually been said by LeBron? Why would he say he was obsessed with so and so when he wants to create his own legacy?

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) Will there be any competition for Dunn? Who else needs him? If so, THAT will determine the price. If they are just arbitrarily asking for a high price, screw them... keep looking rather than be held hostage for an expensive rental. The Angels. They don't have a farm that's much better than ours.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) I hate to say it, but I'd guess it would be Hudson, Morel and Brandon Short for Dunn. Short should have been promoted to B'ham a long time ago considering the numbers he's put up in W-S. If the White Sox give up that package, they better resign Dunn after 2010. Why would the Nationals want Morel? They have Zimmerman. Unless they think Morel will be a good enough offensive player in a corner OF position, I don't think they'd want him. Jordan Danks makes more sense for them. I wish we still had Brandon Allen. He'd be a good piece to a deal like this.

Maybe Zumaya should pull a Billy Wagner and start throwing left handed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) And if I were the Nats...I wouldn't even think of doing it for any and all of the other guys you list. It's pretty damn clear that they will want Hudson.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) So I guess he'd get some nice pitches hitting between Rios and Paulie. I think Dunn would probably bat 5th. If Rios starts slumping, Carlos will probably start hitting 3rd.

They're really not even a team if one of those guys gets hurt. It'll just be LeBron and Wade playing against 5 other guys.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) Didn't Arizona trade for him while in the NL West race in 2008? Yeah and he played about the same way he did when he wasn't in a race with Cincinnati.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) Which could account for the decreased walk rate, he's only walked 8 times in the month of June but he's hitting .300, he's been making a conscience effort to put the ball in play more, not sure how long that will last since it's just not his game. I could care less about strikeouts when he's putting up a near .400 wOBA. I don't see much more upside in an infield popup compared to K. With Dunn also comes the shift which means next to no double plays, keep that in mind also. People overvalue the strikeout thing far too much. A strikeout is technically worth -.3 runs according to linear weights. A normal out is -.25 or something. The differences aren't large enough to get all crazy over. This is why people thinking Jim Thome sucked because he struck out too much pissed me off.

Dunn could hit 50 home runs in this park if he played a whole season here.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Is anyone here concerned about Dunn's strike outs and decreasing walk rate? Plus the .276 batting average is the highest of his career. Walking is an old people's skill. More likely than not, that's a result of him putting the ball in play more. The average is going to go down, his BABIP is quite high as of now (.340 something). The thing I worry about with getting all these players who are currently doing well is that they're kind of playing above their career norms. This only means that they'll end up regressing over the course of the season in which they will be on our team. You'd never like to see that. One guy who does not fit that bill is Adam LaRoche, he's historically a second half guy.

Knowing Ozzie, he'll end up playing Dunn too much at 1B as part of the rotating DH. Hell, he might even put him in RF. It's as if our current RFer isn't bad enough at defense... After watching last night's game, Dunn is not the only thing this team needs. We have way too many other automatic outs other than Jones/Kotsay.

Joel Zumaya's Elbow Explodes
Watching that GIF of the pitch release was terrifying. His elbow literally bent a bit as he delivered the pitch. Zumaya was great when he was healthy this year, it sucks for Detroit and it sucks for him even more. His career is probably done, at least for the next two years I'd say. Unless he changes his mechanics, this is going to happen again. Throwing 100 across your body won't bode well.
