Official 2010 World Cup Thread
It'd be great to see an African country finally make into the round of 16, especially the host nation. And my god, for all the talent the French have, they just suck. Anelka, Evra, Ribery...what a waste.

France already down 1-0. I would really like RSA to somehow advance. They would need 3-4 goals to have a chance at that though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Juan won me over with the hit against the Cubs. A no hitter against them really truly would have sucked. Also I may be mistaken but it seems like he's been getting on base 2-3 time a game a lot of late. And the good D in left is great. He's OK. I would rather have somebody else next year, though, but he's won me over even though I guess his RBI totals are horrific. It's that easy to win you over...? If only you were a hot chick.

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) I'd say Berkman, just because he should be the easiet to attain. Hell, they should be practically giving him away with his salary and performance this year. Berk's agent last month was demanding teams pick up his huge option for next year, so they'd have to drop that crap. You know teams are gonna demand all our good prospects for all the others, to me it's not worth it. I'd think LaRoche would cost less.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Adding DeJesus is not going to come cheaply. How much better is he really going to be than Pierre? I think we can expect that Pierre will be pretty decent....considering how poorly he started. And that's where you have that calculus....if Dunn/LaRoche/Scott, etc., aren't going to put us over the top, then DeJesus certainly isn't going to do the trick either. And they're going to ask for Flowers/Hudson or something like that, certainly not justifiable in a season where we've been pretty bad except for this recent 10-1 stretch against inferior competition. Fielder would be a typical KW move, but budgetarily the numbers just don't make any sense going forward. I think this is one of those seasons you have to stick with what you have and hope that Quentin/Beckham can get going and Viciedo can hold his own, with Vizquel spelling him defensively. A LOT better. At this point, DeJesus is a guy who is at least a 2-3 win upgrade over Pierre. And Carlos isn't producing runs, he's just driving them in. Run production and RBI differ in a A LOT of ways.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) That Twins team got some absurd 2nd half numbers (mostly batting average) out of EVERYONE in their lineup including some seemingly mediocre players. 5 starters (Morneau, White, Mauer, Hunter and Cuddyer) put up .850+ OPS's, Morneau hit .342, White .321 and Mauer .311. Then the absurd: their backup catcher (Redmond) hit .321 in 21 starts, Luis Castillo hit .314 with a .375 OBP at the top, Jason Bartlett hit .309, Nick "no bat" Punto hit .285 with a .332 OBP as their everyday 3B and Jason f***ing Tyner hit .312 in 321 PA. The team as a whole hit .316/.363/.474/.838 in July. When you have THAT many fluky performances and throw in the MVP of the league, Cy Young award winner, a catcher who wins the f***ing batting title, a rookie stater with a 208 ERA+ and a closer with a 0.79 WHIP and 12.5 K/9 you're going to win a s*** ton of games. It's surprising that Rondell White hit so well...

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) All Time we're 5-6 vs Zambrano, 4-1 vs Dempster and 2-9 vs Lilly. Wow, we really do suck against Lilly don't we? I think we take 2 of 3.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) Until they show they can beat Minny or Detroit in the 2nd half of the season, I'm still out. Just don't think this team has enough offensively, and you can't rely on the pitching to be as good as it's been over the past week and a bit. Well, they are 5-4 against those two teams. It's the teams we're supposed to be beating (KC, Cleveland) that have killed us this year. Take away our 4-8 record against Cleveland and we're 4 games over. If we had won 4 out of 6 against KC, we'd be 6 over.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Fangraphs updated UZR for catchers significantly this year. There's no such thing as catcher UZR. The fielding aspect for catchers that you see on FanGraphs is a component of Plus/Minus.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) LaRoche strikes out a lil too much... and that's against NL pitching. I'll take the strike outs if he can hit for good power. Besides, Dunn strikes out even more and he's not projected to be that much better of a hitter than LaRoche this year.

Toews is going to be on the cover of NHL 11. Kane, now Toews. It's a first in EA sports history to have two guys on the same team on the cover in back to back years.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Can we please stop talking about Lance Berkman until he starts hitting at all? He has been back for almost two months and he hais still been awful. His power numbers are worse than Andruw Jones. Until he figures out what he did in the past, he is not very useful. I agree with this. The only benefit to this is that he'll be less expensive. But we really don't know if he'll ever rebound given his age and his regression since last year.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Does anyone think KW might try his hand at gambling again when the tribe put Hafner on waivers? hoping to party like its 2006 again ala Rios? If so the sox would be on the hook for the pro ration of 2010's $11.5M, $13M for 2011, $13M for 2012 and at the very least 2.75 for 2013. Also i would be pro Austin Kearns and Russell Branyan for CQ+ Hafner is too expensive. He'd be a decent guy to have, since he'll post a decent OPS/wOBA for a DH, but at that price? Hell no.

Chris Sale signs for a bargain; expected in majors this year
This is definitely interesting. Will we have a Mike Leake on our hands?

Over .500 and within 5 games by the end of the month!
Looks like we got to .500 ahead of schedule. So realistically, we should probably go 3-3 on this homestand. We'd be lucky to go 4-2. And I expect a sweep of KC. So 6-3 the rest of the way until July?

QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) That's because the numbers aren't right. I don't know where they came from. Buehrle: 4.2 Danks: 4.5 Floyd: 2.8 Garcia: 5.5 Peavy: 4.8 They're from ESPN. I knew they wouldn't get it right...

June Catch All White Sox Thread
Sox pitching should only get better. The White Sox have a team FIP of 3.89 (third best in the AL). Our team ERA is 4.41, which is somewhere near the bottom. That's a difference of .52 between ERA and FIP, which is the 4th largest differential in baseball. So I think we should expect our pitching to do like it has during this streak for a little longer. It'll even out eventually, but our xFIP suggests that we should be a team with a ERA in the low 4s.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Maybe we're really bad against bullpens? Are those the runs scored from the start of the game to the end of the game during his start or are those the runs scored while he was in the game divided by the amount of innings the guy's pitched?
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
We're averaging 4.3 runs per game. Something about those numbers isn't right.
