July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Sure we're red hot but are we really better than any of the 6 above us in that list? I would have said Texas but with Lee they are pretty dangerous. I am damn sure that we are better than the Padres and Braves (I really don't have to explain why on this one).

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
White Sox are ranked 7th in MLB power rankings by ESPN (we were 16th last week). Looks like we're starting to get noticed a little bit. Although if this was done by almost any other team, they'd be first or second. http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings

All Jones has to do is get on base at a nice rate and not look like utter junk at the plate.

We will have $6 million left after Redick's deal. So Howard is a possibility. I'd rather go after Brad Miller though, we need another big man behind Taj. Who knows how good Asik will be.

I'd rather have Morrow than Korver. But I'm somewhat fine with Redick now.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Felix has or had a quote from Bill Smith that said he'd prefer a pitcher with more wins and a high ERA than a pitcher with fewer wins and a low ERA. I get that he means he wants a pitcher with more wins, because it means the team is winning, but it's such a flawed quote that it's hilarious. I got those nuggets from an article Felix gave me. I don't know if it's luck or what, but the Twins won without any benefit of advanced player evaluation analysis. Weird...

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Looks like I'm wrong - is is a criminal out there in right field... It's actually -14.1 according to FanGraphs, I'm assuming that might be more updated, I don't know. All I know is that he's been terrible out there. We've replaced one Jermaine Dye with another. Alex and Juan are trying their hardest to make up for him right now. The nice play he made was an out of zone play though, so you have to give him credit for that, but the price of getting hurt was really not worth the risk.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) I don't get the Jerry Remy love, annoying as hell. They're sucking off Boston, as usual. Don Orsillo is about as boring and emotionless as you can get.

Good, that probably means no Josh Howard. We probably still need another big man, even if Omer Asik is coming here.

Second half predictions
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) Ugh, anyone criticizing Quentin for that catch obviously didn't appreciate how bad the sun was. The point is that one catch shouldn't mold your entire opinion or sway your opinion about somebody's playing abilities. I can probably pick out 20 plays that Carlos Quentin should have made, but didn't.

Second half predictions
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) If he wasn't so bad at defense, he wouldn't have had to make such a crazy catch. Yup, had he ran a good route to the ball, he wouldn't have missed three games as a result.

Second half predictions
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Did you forget that he ran like a wide receiver route to get to that ball? It was a great play, don't get me wrong, but that one play should not tell you that Carlos Quentin is good at fielding. He has the worst UZR as a right fielder in baseball right now. And his Plus/Minus is a -11. He has one of the worst zone ratings among all right fielders. None of this should be surprising, his defense has been declining ever since his foot problems.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) If they didn't think they would miss Gomez's defense in CF, then they weren't thinking. He doesn't do anything offensively, but he can cover as much ground in CF as anyone. The Twins are a very non-sabermetric organization. I'm surprised at their success w/o any sabermetric flavor. Their assistant GM doesn't know what BABIP and FIP are and thinks RBI is more important than anything.

YOUR FIRST PLACE CHICAGO WHITE SOX!!!
Keith Law's Agendas 1. Suck off a prospect he likes at the time (Right now, Mike Trout is that guy). 2. Hate on the White Sox farm system 3. Hate on the White Sox and anyone they draft (ie. Chris Sale) 4. Leave Chris Carpenter off the Cy Young ballot and vote for an ex-White Sox just so he can help Javy say, "I told you so" and make the Sox look bad. 5. Just hate on the White Sox in general while sucking off their division rivals like the Twins.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Realistic or pipe dream fantasy. Whatever. You know how these work. -Beckham continues to bounce back and ends this suckfest of a year with an OPS above .700. -Williams makes a couple of moves, one to add a left handed bat, and one to add another back of the rotation type to allow for flexibility for the rest of the season -Ozzie Guillen says that Tony Pena is his MVP Looks like we have ourselves a new D.J. Carrasco.

Carlos Quentin hits well enough to get into MVP consideration, despite his horrid defense.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) Great infield defense, bad outfield defense. Span has been a good defender, but Cuddyer has been dreadful in RF, and Kubel has been terrible as usual when he's played. Delmon Young has actually made drastic improvements from a horrendous fielder to merely a bad outfielder this year. Plus, no J.J. Hardy... So Cuddyer had to play 2B and 3B a couple of times. God he sucks at defense. He's one of the most overrated players in baseball. That outfield of theirs is really bad.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I wonder if the Bulls considered Josh Childress at all. I thought he would have been a pretty good fit, but my guess is, they don't want to go more than 3 years with any of these guys as they want to ensure they have some financial flexibility and not a ton of guys all inked up for the next 6 years. Josh Howard would be decent, but he's recovering from a torn ACL and it will be a while until he is back. I also don't think he fits in very well at the 2 defensively. I wonder if the Bulls would be able to pull off a trade for any of the following: Jason Richardson OJ Mayo Mayo and D-Rose on the same team? Daymn. Not happening, but I can dream right?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) Speaking of that, I saw Dee Brown in a Summer League game the other day on NBA TV. Holy cow, does he suck! He was the worst player on the court. It's funny because I saw a whole ranking of the best Illini athletes on the Daily Illini a couple of months ago. Dee Brown was #1, I really don't know why when Deron Williams is one of the best players in the NBA right now. Maybe some people are bitter that Deron left after his junior year.

If Redick was really the most efficient offensive player last year - then wow. Screw Anthony Morrow.

I don't get the fascination with Scully at times, he's just so damn boring. I'd rather just watch the game with nobody announcing. Hawk is the exact opposite.

Hawk alone makes it unbearable for non-White Sox fans.
