AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) It actually is a surprise. Not the order of pitchers but the runs per game. I figured it would range from the low 3s to the high 3s. I guess our offense isn't that bad?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Holy [Ozzie Word]. That is a high number. Considering our offense, yes it is.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Maybe Garcia is just facing a lot of the other team's 4th-5th starters. That's what I thought.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Best 5th starter in baseball? Team record by starter: Garcia 9-4 Danks 7-6 Buehrle 7-7 Peavy 7-7 Floyd 4-10 34-34. Who would have thunk it 12 days ago when the Sox were 24-33? Awesome. I think the team just hits better when Freddy's on the mound. Garcia's getting 7.15 runs per start. Highest of any of our starters and 20th in all of baseball.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
This is easily a 90 win team in the NL. This next series against Atlanta will be big. If we can win this series, Kenny should really think about getting some pieces.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Great job, Putz. Excellent sweep. Never thought we could have a road trip like that. We did. .500 is a great accomplishment after such a horrendous start. Good game again! Paulie rocks. Start talking about how we have no chance against the Braves now. Just might work.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Speaking of Dodgers players, I'd kill to try and get Andre Ethier, but that would be the ultimate kings ransom. And the Dodgers have no incentive to trade him...

QUOTE (goblue5699 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Kevin Kouzmanoff Nearly a 1.000 OPS in June and it wouldn't take much to acquire him. I still don't really believe we've turned the corner, but going after a guy like him would be fine with me. Great defender, not much of a hitter. If we can acquire him and LaRoche, that'd be awesome.

Another nice outing by Freddy.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Teahen won't be back until after ALL-STAR back, at least we have some time to worry about that problem. It's going to be THAT long? Geez.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) If Freddy can get one more out, wow, he is the definition of a solid No. 5 starter. If he does and we win this game, it'd be his first win after a White Sox win.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Matt warming up. Halladay fails us against Twins. Morneau goes deep, 4-1 Twins. Tigers up 3-1. That Phillies team is in some deep s***.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) In favor of Teahen speaks his OBP which is aroud .350, he can talk a walk and get on base. His OPS is .727 compared to Quentin's .705 I Carlos also isn't slugging much higher than Teahen.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) If they're trying Viciedo out at 3rd, then Vizquel can play 2b for a week or so. And Lillincredible can back him up! This. At least Vizquel's hitting well above the mendoza line. And if you brought up Dayan, you need to play him every day.

Freddy's going to get in trouble and by the time Ozzie decides to take him out, it'll be too late.

QUOTE (striker @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) How about Gavin Floyd for James Loney? Loney wouldn't require Gavin. We shouldn't have to get rid of any big pieces for this bat we're trying to get.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) What is Teahen? Mr. Strike Out and Bad D? If you guys like him I guess we agree to disagree. Teahen sucked too. He was even worse than Getz last year.
-
Sox at Washington 6-20 game thread 12:30 first pitch
Getz is just a mediocre player who should be used in a platoon situation. Had Ozzie been smarter with Getz and Nix last year, we could have gotten a lot more out of them. Getz was barely replacement level last year.

If we do get back in this. . .
And for those wondering about Berkman, he's projected to hit with a .385 wOBA for the rest of the year. He's not worth much more than LaRoche in terms of value. You're overpaying if you go for him.
-
If we do get back in this. . .
Adam Dunn's projected numbers for the rest of the year (By ZiPS): .265/.387/.532 with a .400 wOBA. Having him in the middle of the order would be a dream. Adam LaRoche's Rest of season projection: .282/.361/.503 with a .376 wOBA. The difference here is a good hitter and an elite hitter. As a full-time 1B for the rest of the year with those numbers, paired with an estimated UZR of 2.6, Adam LaRoche is worth 1.8 wins above replacement, making him a 2.8 WAR player on the year. When you take into consideration of how bad Mark Kotsay and Andruw Jones are, that's a huge improvement. With a platoon of Kotsay and Jones for the rest of the year at DH, we should expect basically no WAR, if not negative WAR (sad, isn't it?). So LaRoche is at least a 2 win upgrade over what we currently have. Dunn, as a DH, would yield 2.3 WAR, so he's technically a 2.5 WAR upgrade. Dunn would cost a lot more than LaRoche. I'd say go for LaRoche. Plus he's got an option for next year.
