  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) On WSCR they were comparing Rios contract to Soriano......there is no comparison on any level Soriano is owed $90M over 5 years and there is no positive outlook. That's laughable. One's a terrible defender and is losing it at the plate a bit and also getting older with a larger commitment. The other's a much better defender with upside at the plate since he's still in the middle of his prime years. Just wondering, what what show was this?
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Rios was money too. Ozzie said that we should boo Rios at the Cell and maybe he'll hit like he did in Toronto.. Buehrle and Putz already started this trend.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) "You guys want Berkman over Dye? Y'all are racists". Orlando Hudson??? What are you doing in this thread??? He be trollin'.
  4. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) he LITERALLY carried the whole team! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA man, he's gonna be sore........ Especially since he was so special LAST NIGHT...
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) That wasn't the point I was trying to make. What I'm saying is who cares when he gets those 3 hits? If he went 3 for 3 to start the game and then went 0-2 it would be the same end result. I'm not b****ing about him at all. If he got three hits with nobody on, the end result won't be the same. In this context, the situation in which he gets the hits does matter.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Very true, it most likely won't carry over. Because he's now sporting a .901 OPS on the season. If he can post a .801, I think many of us will be VERY happy.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) I don't see how you can say Jones was LESS valuable. Without Jones hits, Teahen's hit's were useless. But let's not think about it that way. Teahen can't control that. Teahen's hits came in more crucial situations, that's the thing.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) If Teahen did anything in his earlier ABs there might not have been a need for late inning heroics. He did hit a single to tie the game up in the middle of the game though... I don't know if he really could have done anything more until that point.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) He's so dreamy with a good WPA. Only in yesterday's game... It most likely won't carry over.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) So did Jones. Jones added .398, also pretty good, but Teahen nearly doubled that. It's just that Teahen's hits came a lot later than Jones'.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Mark Teahen gets some well-deserved pimpage from Fangraphs after carrying the Sox last night. "The winning team, as a whole, will only have a +.500 WPA. Teahen shouldered the entire load and some more for the White Sox on Monday night in what could be one of the biggest, in terms of clutch hitting and value to the team, performances of the entire year. In his final 3 PAs, in which he went 3-3 with a 3B, a HR, and 3 RBIs, the run he knocked in either tied the game or gave the White Sox the lead. The leverage index of these three plays were 1.86, 2.90, and 3.43, respectively. Teahen came up huge in big spots for Chicago. To do so once can make you a hero. To do so three times in the same game? That’s simply amazing." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/t...rries-white-sox Damn it, you beat me to it.
  12. Article Mark Teahen's 3-5 game last night yielded a WPA (win percentage added) of .765, which is insane considering an entire team only needs a WPA of .500 to win a game (this just means the rest of our team sucked a lot though, most likely the pitching part). To quote Jack Moore, "Teahen came up huge in big spots for Chicago. To do so once can make you a hero. To do so three times in the same game? That’s simply amazing." Looks like this game meant a lot more than some of us thought for Teahen.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) What a garbage article. It totally ignored the other job offers that Dye had and turned down for more money. It also fails to mention that Garrett Anderson and Ken Griffey Jr. still have jobs.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:38 AM) The Mariners seem to be saying a lot of things about Milton Bradley that have been said before http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5079777 I'm rooting for Milton, but he's gotta start hitting soon or this is going to turn into another 2009.
  15. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:42 AM) Orlando Hudson says racism is the reason why Dye, other black players are jobless. Hahahaha. Are you freaking serious? Then I'm guessing Prince Fielder won't get Mauer and Teixeria money then... This is ridiculous. Nobody give a s*** about race as long as you don't suck, but in almost everybody's mind, JD is a terrible defensive player and Sheffield sucks.
  16. Lance Berkman would be so awesome for this team...a much needed switch hitter, to which we have none of. I don't think Omar Vizquel counts.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:20 AM) He has a career batting average of .300 with 1,666 career hits including 7 seasons of over 170 hits going into this season. Sure looks like a hitter to me. Yeah, and his wOBA is somewhere around the .300 range too... He's one of the worst offensive players on this team.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) Screw the platoon. Bat Jones 5th and plant his ass in LF. And DH Juan Pierre? He might be the WORST full-time DH ever then, lol. I mean seriously DH = designated hitter. Isn't it kind of ironic that we would have a guy who can't hit, but does nothing but go up to bat as our DH?
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) I think ideally, you play Rios in CF everyday, Jones in RF close to everyday, and DH/LF Quentin and Pierre in whatever order you want. Kotsay can get a spot start at DH/1B/RF to spell somebody every once in a while, but that's it. I think this is where the rotating DH could help. With guys like Quentin and Jones, who are both injury prone, it's good to have them out of the field once or twice a week. A rotating DH of Quentin, Jones, Konerko, and maybe Pierre and Kotsay once in a while can probably work pretty well if used correctly.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) I'm with you, with one other thing, Jones in the lineup I imagine helps our D out a lot more. I'm anxious to see what the data would read, but when Jones takes out one of either Quentin or Pierre in LF/RF he adds at least an arm upgrade. And an OF of PIerre/Rios/Jones is our most optimal in terms of getting to the ball. Quentin took an absolutely horrid route to a double today. Kotsay really doesn't provide that benefit. Nor does he have the upside, as you said. Jones adds a range upgrade in comparison to Quentin and I'm willing to say that Jones might have similar range to Pierre in left.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) BTW, one West matchup is now set. #1 Lakers vs #8 Thunder. It amazes me that a 50 win team like OKC is the freaking 8th seed...
  22. The Brewers got a huge bargain with Braun.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) I've based my Jones dislike on a rabid Rangers fan I know very well who told me he was a stiff and Rangers fans despised him. Also the fact I figured he was actually worse than the Dye we'd still have this year if we signed Dye. Don't listen to people with rabbies, they're mentally unstable.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:15 AM) I wonder what the chances are that once Kenny realizes he can not get A-Gon, that he will throw some money at Jermaine (assuming he does not have a team). 50-60% If Dye doesn't take this deal, he's pretty stupid. Him getting $4 million at this time is a lot of money for a guy of his caliber. If he doesn't though, good for us, we have a viable insurance option.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:30 AM) Yeah I really deserve to be slapped around after tonight. If Jones and Teahen build on this I may never live it down. I could never imagine Jones blasting two home runs in a game. We shall see what happens. Obviously the offense has awakened. But I am glad to be exposed as a fraud. First and foremost I am a Sox fan. I will admit it when I'm wrong and tonight I congratulate Jones/Teahen for doing something I didn't think they would ever do. What about Peavy? He can't be happy with his first two outings this season. I don't think anybody is more mad about his performance than him.
