Looking at this Dodgers series, I think we should tinker the pitching staff a little bit. Contreras had probably the worst outing of his career vs. the Cubs on Saturday, why let him face them again? As the rotation stands right now. Buehrle pitches on Tuesday. Floyd on Wednesday, and Danks on Thursday. I'm thinking we should pitch Contreras on Thursday because of the day off today. Contreras would face a non-potent Dodgers offense and Danks will once again pitch against the Cubs. Hopefully, Ozzie leaves him in longer this time. Just my 2 cents, Contreras could be dominant on Friday, but I'd like to see Danks in there instead.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) One word sums up the situational hitting on this team: PATHETIC! We had 2 more hits and scored 6 runs less. Speaks volumes don't it?
-
Ozzie needs to wake this team up.

Life sucks. The Sox sucked. I'm gonna take a couple of days off from baseball.
-
Ahh...the Joe Crede pop up.
-
I think this may be the start of that collapse all the doubters were talking about.

With a base open...Plunk Ramirez
-
Can we at least show some life? I see a rant in Ozzie's future.

When we hit the ball hard, it's right at someone. When they do, it finds a hole. Luck ain't on our side.

This team is dead...

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) "You should go to the American League and you'll see more potent lineups," Vazquez said. ^^ Put up or shut up time for Javy. Ozzie better be captain hook today and not let things get ugly in a 5 minute time span like yesterday. I caught the 4th inning yesterday and thought Jim Parque was back. I haven't followed either team much, but the Cubs look good. Maybe Javy will actually try this time.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) Verlander has found his fastball again. He's consistently in the 96-97 mph range today. I heard Farmer and Stone say that against the Twins, Livan "The fatass" Hernandez yelled something to Verlander during the game that pissed him off. Then, Verlander started throwing faster. Damn you Livan, damn you!

Mariotti cowers when writer confronts him at Wrigley

QUOTE (palehose23 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Jay was at Wrigley on Saturday and one of his Sun-Times brethren came up to him to ask him why Jay blasted him on Chicago Tonight. Jay immediately goes up to a security officer and ask him to arrest this writer. The security guard ask Jay if the writer had touched him and jay answered No. So the Security guard kinda laughed it off and said that there was nothing that he could do. Then Jay proceeds to call the police because he feels he is in trouble althought the writer never hit him or threatened to hit him. Making a long story short, Jay spent the remained of the game in the Wrigley Field Press Cafeteria wetting his pants. WHAT A PUSSY True story but none of the Parties will ever be able to write about this so I wanted to make sure the public knows this. True or not, great story. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Yep, it's better to focus on the AL Central than to care what the idiots in the media or Cubs fans with inferiority complexes think. Especially now, because Minnesota's won 6 in a row. They beat Webb today. *Sigh.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) No, dont you understand, if the Sox dont win then our lives in this town are effectively over. The Cubs fans will be able to gloat and I will be sad and the columnists will talk and civility will come to an end as we know it. TBH, if we win this game, I will breathe a lot easier this week. Mostly because we'll be up 2.5 games going out west and we'll be 9 games above .500, not 7. And we would snap our 8 game losing streak on the road.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) I'll take the HR. You can have your singles, I take the HR. We will see who comes out on top. I never said I'll lean either way. I said I'll take both. The combination wins. One or the other usually doesn't. Although the home runs will most likely win.

QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Why would you want someone whose success is totally dependent upon luck? Because the Twins have 4 division titles by doing that. Give us a couple of lucky players and combine it with our power and talent and you have a WS team.
-
QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) We also had a historically good pitching staff and the most unbelievable bullpen of the last twenty years. But, if you want to give the lion's share of the credit to a mediocre offense, be my guest. This bullpen is just as good if not better. Take away 4-5 games this year and the bullpen is nearly flawless. I'm sure our bullpen lost us games in 05. Look at game #3 of 2005 against Cleveland.
-
QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Ok. He goes the other way. That doesn't explain the inconsistencies in his MiLB statistics compared to his MLB statistics. He's still a singles hitter whose success is dependent upon hitting it through holes that won't always be open. It's too bad, I wish we had a singles hitter who can hit balls through the holes and drive in some big runs.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) In 05, we had a mediocre offense that hit lots of home runs. We won because of outstanding starting pitching. The manufacturing runs part in 05 is a myth. In the world series we hit a lot of home runs to score runs. It's not a myth, it happened. The reason we led in every one of our first 37 games was because of Scott Podsednik. He would get on, steal a base and get knocked in. Sure, we depended on the home run more than anything. But we could produce runs when we needed to. We won opening day 1-0, we won the last game of the WS 1-0. Doesn't that tell you something? When we didn't hit the long ball, we scratched out runs. That offense was a lot more consistent too.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Amazing minor league development we have here. How does a guy like Ryan Sweeney go from not being able to adjust to inside pitching here, to poof a guy hitting .299 in another organization. I wonder what changes another team will make to Anderson when he gets run out of here. The talent is there, we just don't see that talent at the major league level. It's all Kenny's fault. Really, our offensive philosophy is nothing but the long ball. It might be about time that Kenny noticed that. We won in 05 less dependent on the long ball and look what happened? One year later, we go back to hitting homers and lose out on the playoffs. We need to manufacture more runs in order to beat good teams!
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) Oh don't even use that to try and make a point. There was absolutely no run support for him that year. And when he did get support he was 9-4, but his ERA was 5. He was bad either way. Our whole entire staff sucked in the second half of '06. That's pretty much it.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Make a play for Reggie Willits... Hawk - "Reggie is a good looking young ball player. I'll tell ya what Fiesty, if we get this kid, Greg Walker will turn him into Mr. October." D.J. - "Reggie Jackson?" Hawk - "Ya datgum right Reggie Jackson. They're both Reggies right?". Hawk - "I'll tell you again Fiesty, if I were still GM, I would of traded Ozzie Guillen and John Danks for that kid already. I have so much confidence in Walk that I know Willits will be the most clutch hitter to ever graze this field." 30 seconds of silence.
