All this Tyrus talk when I look up at Lamarcus Aldridge's stats and just start drooling. Damn it John Paxson! We'd still be playing basketball if he didn't make that trade...

Ozzie with his usual empty threats after loss like this
Is it just me or the do the Sox always suck really bad in early May?

QUOTE (scenario @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) Just looked at last year's standings... One year ago today, we were one game below .500. At least that team had a 5th starter who didn't own an ERA near 8.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) With how good Greinke was pitching, you have no idea if you'll get another chance to put up a crooked number. You never, ever give up the first out when you're trailing by more than 2. We needed 3 runs. 3. If we had done the little things this game well, we wouldn't be arguing about whether or not Podsednik should have bunted. There was one situation earlier in the game where a bunt could have yielded a run. I'd take my chances of getting a bunt down and then getting Podsednik in on a grounder than trying to hit off of Zack Greinke, who faced 31 batters and only allowed 6 hits. 6/31 is a percentage of 19.4. There was a 19.4% chance of getting a hit off of him today and Ozzie had Lillibridge swing away with nobody out and Podsednik at second base, knowing he has a hard time making contact? I thought Ozzie loved small ball... Then it's a no brainer whether or not Pods should have bunted in the 8th because it could have been a 3-1 game instead of a 3-0 game. And there goes your rule about how you should not give up an out if you're down more than 2.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Why in the hell would you bunt with 2 on when you're down 3 against CY Greinke? That's a good way to get fired. Because I'd rather score a run than none. There's also the possibility of Podsednik beating out a bunt. Granted, he was 2-2 before that point and swinging away wouldn't have been the worst idea. There was another instance today when Pods lead off with a double and Lillibridge then struck out. Hello Ozzie? Bunt? Lillibridge can't hit for his life and you have him swinging the bat? Ugh...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) Yeah, so we can get more players who are fast with little hitting ability!! That's especially useful in the summer at the Cell. Why is it always all or nothing? Whenever somebody says they don't like this team because it's inconsistent and full of power hitting macho men, the counter argument is always that if we ditch that, we would be a team full of Scott Podsedniks and Juan Pierres. When did anybody ever say that we should start being a team of frail, skinny, base stealers rather than a team of all or nothing home run hitters? You look for balance. You look for guys who can hit for power and also hit well when the situation arises. Not guys who swing for the fences every time they get a chance to. That's what we are right now. We either hit the s*** out of the ball or we don't hit it at all. We don't move runners over when we can and we can't hit well with RISP. WE could have scored three runs tonight had we known how to move runners along. Unfortunately, we can't even do that. I'll give the team the benefit of the doubt since it's injured and we have to stick Brent Lillibridge out there every night, but tonight was embarrassing. Last night was embarrassing, especially on national TV. Ozzie will have to start ranting sometime about how we have one of the worst offenses in the AL while we have some of the best power hitters in the league.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Hopefully if this keeps up all year KW will break up this home run or nothing softball team..... Or maybe we should just move the fences back some and that'll end it for good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) At least Nix got another hit. Why didn't Ozzie at least bunt with Pods in the 8th? He's probably the only one on the team who can do it well. WHAT HAPPENED TO SMALL BALL WHEN YOU SHOULD USE IT? I was telling my friend, who I was b****ing to, that we need to bunt here. I don't care if we would only get two runs on a single, I want a freaking bunt. Turns out the bunt would have been more useful than Pods swinging away...

I hate this team. It sucks. It's injured. It can't hit. It wastes good pitching performances. We have the second worst offense in the AL. Carlos Quentin is trying too hard. We don't move runners even when we get them on. Brent Lillibridge can't hit. My God, this team is a waste of energy right now.

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 4, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) Noah is the 2nd most important player on the roster. No way is he "blech" to me. Tyrus on the other hand... I am starting to have my doubts. But if you put those two together, I don't see anything great. Put Noah next to Bosh or Boozer and you might have something. If only Carlos Boozer was actually healthy most of the time, he would be a interesting commodity.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) I think sticking Bosh next to Noah would be awesome. It would work out pretty well. While Bosh isn't the kind of guy who can post up on you and just power you, he is still a low scoring threat. Noah will be the one getting the put backs, blocks, and rebounds while Bosh will certainly help spread the offense. We became much too reliant on our guards this season and we won't get anywhere if that continues.

We are literally the worst team ever.
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 3, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) Does Nix play SS? I really liked his bat. Nix can also play 3B as well as SS.

I to, would rather have Bosh than Wade. Rose and Wade would be one of the best backcourts in the next 5 or so years, but we'd still be stuck with Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah down low. Blech.

Podsednik/Nix Recalled, Anderson to DL, Owens Demoted
Pods has mediocre range, his arm is what scares the hell out of me. Play Lil' Bridge against left handed pitchers and play Pods against right handed pitchers, I guess... It really sucks for BA because he was actually hitting for once. Poor guy.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) 53% say the bulls win in regulation or OT. I think the majority of the country is behind the Bulls in this series. They're tired of the Celtics and they're tired of Rondo. Plus, we're the underdogs. As for Rondo getting suspended, it's not happening. As much as it should, the NBA doesn't have the balls to do it. If this was any other team besides the Celtics, it probably would have happened. Rondo has been playing like he's playing street ball this series. Hack him hard when he goes inside, don't give him easy points. That doesn't mean you should punch him or slap him across the face, it just means you gotta teach him a lesson or two about coming inside. The guy isn't a great jump shooter, so all he has is the penetration game. On top of that, he's a bad free throw shooter. It's a win-win to foul this guy every chance you get when he goes to the basket, but you just gotta make sure he doesn't get any and-1s, that defeats the point of everything. And the best thing is, win Saturday and all the s*** we've been taking in this series in terms of officiating and bulls*** from the NBA is moot.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Interesting...because the main knock on him coming from the Phillies is that he wouldn't battle. He would get knocked around, which would rattle him, and down goes Floyd. He's only 26 and he's making progress. And, you do realize, he's the second/third starter on this team. Yes, he is improving. But that doesn't necessarily mean that his stats will improve since he was really fortunate last season. He got the run support and he got guys to hit the ball right at defenders last year. I think everybody wishes that his luck would continue, but it hasn't shown up yet this year.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) You knew he was going to regress after 4 starts. I know that overreaction is the norm here, but get f***ing real people. Anderson should have his head chopped off because he failed in an at bat, but then he gets hurt and you want to try and rebuild him. Floyd is brutal because he puts up a quality start and now he has already regressed. Let the season play out, JFC. If you looked at his BABIP and some other sabermetric stats that I either don't know the name of or forgot, he was pretty lucky last year. What's even more intriguing is that he had about a 1 ERA in his first 8 starts and then a ERA near the mid 4s for the rest of the year. Gavin's still not there yet. As much as Ozzie wants to praise the guy, he's not a 20 game winner nor is he one of the best pitchers in league. He has the potential to be one, but his inability to find the curveball at his leisure is stopping him from becoming that kind of pitcher. When he doesn't have his stuff, he'll battle. But most of the time, the battle ain't pretty. I don't think he really had it today, but he battled and came out of it fine. Bottom line: Gavin Floyd, at this point, is a third starter on a lot of teams in baseball. The future is bright, but you're probably not going to see 17 wins and a 3.84 ERA out of him this year.

Thome to DL?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) This. And if he hits the way he can, he may never go back down. I hope they do this instead of someone gay like PODS. So Pods got tired of his pornstar wife and decided that he should become a homosexual? Hmm...
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
I think a lot of us knew Gavin was going to regress this year... I'm still not all that worried though. Hopefully, we get Getz back on Friday when we start the series in Texas. He's much better than Lillibridge, who is now getting exposed because he's getting more ABs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) "Veteran presence" or whatever that means, I assume. I wouldn't want him there either, but he's probably less likely to take a stupid shot than Thomas, I will grant that. Believe it or not that was a great play drawn up by VDN. They caught the Celtics off-guard and would have gotten away with it if Miller didn't rush the shot... He saw people coming to smother him and he started driving from about the free throw line. He should have dunked that ball and gotten the and 1. That's something Tyrus Thomas could have done.
