  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Because Getz leads a lot of rookies in a lot of statistical categories. Hits and stolen bases? When he starts leading rookies in batting average and on base percentage, I'll pay a little more attention.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) We must not be watching the same Getz play ball. Plus what I said was he should command some atention. Beckham right now is the guy in my book. But, it is really good to see two Sox rookies making the grade at the bigs with our team He's been a good player for the past two months, but that doesn't make up for his inability to hit anything in May. His overall stats aren't all that good... Are you really telling me his OPS+ of 81 impresses you?
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) For ROY? Why? He is having a nice season, but he isn't the best rookie on his own team nevermind the league. Very true. Why does everybody love Getz so much? People started loving him last year when he got like 2 hits in 7 ABs. I like Getz, but he's been a below average offensive player this year playing mediocre defense. There's a lot to like about him (his speed, his peskiness), but he's not a good candidate for ROY.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) Yeah, this kid is ultra-talented. I really could care less about the ROY award to be honest. I am more excited that this kid has handled everything the organization has thrown at him and passed the test with flying colors. No doubt the league will make some adjustments to him...but even the outs he made today. Those balls were extremely hard-hit. He just has such a good bat. There is no doubt in my mind this kid is going to be an absolute superstar. I still think he's a Michael Young type hitter offensively (when he was really good a couple of years back). .300+, around 20 homers, OPS in the high .800s. Not exactly a superstar, but a very, very good player on offense. Defensively, he should be a lot better. Young is terrible.
  5. We should trade Bobby. Give Thornton a shot at closing.
  6. Beckham's now got a .860 OPS. I think that should translate to an OPS+ of about 120. His defense has improved as well, his UZR's gone up a point since the last time I checked.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Season-ending surgery for Brandon Webb. Should Kenny buy low again?
  8. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) how come it always seems like the Sox's top pitching prospects are being said to have fastballs that top out 3-5 mph faster in the minors than what they actually show up with at the MLB level. Nunez, i know it was his debut, looks like another in a long line of supposed flame throwers that didn't show anywhere near the kind of fastball they were reported to have. The gun today had him at 91-93 while it was reported that he could bring it at 96-97. It was the same thing with Poreda and goes all the way back to Massett coming up. Does US cellular have a slow gun or are these guys a bit overhyped. I know the be all,end all is not how hard you throw but i was kind of disappointed when his first fastball showed at 91 today when i was expecting to see at least 95. The main thing is he got the out and looked pretty poised but still.......... This isn't always true... I read that Richard featured a 91 MPH fastball last year before he came up and that he was more of a sinker baller. Turns out he throws 94-96 instead...
  9. There were some rumors that we went after Cody Ross (or so I read on ESPN). He's a really good player. He's got a good glove in center and he has a lot of power for a guy his size. I really don't care that he makes more outs than the average player, his slugging% makes up for it. His UZR/150 was an amazing 18.3 in center last year. For some reason, he's fallen off a bit this year. I think we should go after him in the off-season since we still need a center fielder for next year. He shouldn't be that expensive as he's going to be 30 next year.
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) they'll need it - the Anaheim express is coming to town and those guys are hot. Their team BA is sick. We've always found ways to play well against the Angels. A win today would be huge, as we could have a 8-2 or a 9-1 homestand.
  11. Jose Veras balked in the winning run yesterday...ugh.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Nix's numbers are as good as they are because Ozzie is using him perfectly in match ups. He would get exploited big time if he played everyday. Yeah, he usually sucks against RHP. But he did see a pretty good right hander out there today and went 1-1 with 2 walks against Burnett.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) He has a career .322 OBP, which isn't terrible as long as he's not at the top of the order. A number of teams that are lacking a 2B or a SS could benefit from a guy like him hitting 9th (or as a utility player). I don't think of him as an above average offensive player yet. With his speed, he should be. If he can post a .340 OBP, he could be very valuable.
  14. Kevin Gregg sucks more than Bobby does. Bonafacio killed that ball. Too bad Cantu couldn't drive him in.
  15. Psst, go check the box score. I wish Richard and the prospects we sent SD nothing but the best, but just don't make history Clayton. Then we'll get all this crap the next few days about how we gave up too much.
  16. Nix got away with a couple of calls on his walks today. I've never seen him this patient before TBH with you. His OPS is a nice .771, almost 25 points better than Alexei's. Jayson Nix that sees regular pitching could be pretty good, as he seems really rusty when he's platooning.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Hopefully not the same thing you did. At least not right when they saw him. That would be an awkward, yet hilarious, scene.
  18. Zambrano's on my fantasy team...bad news. In other news, I love Matt Holliday...a lot. If Pujols ever figures out how to hit again, watch out.
  19. Indians just got out of a jam. Sizemore, Cabrera, and Choo up for the Tribe. If they're going to win, do it now.
  20. Kendry Morales is breaking out like no other... The guy's going to hit 30 homers and drive in 100 this year easily. Let's go Indians. Win in extras again please.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Even if Peavy doesn't pitch until September, it appears that his acquisition has provided a serious morale boost in the clubhouse. And that very well may be translating to their play. I know right? Seeing him there on TV made me jizz in my pants. What do you think the other players did when they saw him?
  22. If Kenny just goes out and signs Figgins along with a good 4th outfielder who can play center, I'll be satisfied. A nice bullpen piece wouldn't be bad either with the departure of Dotel. Carl Crawford looks really good at this point, but we'll have to give up a lot to get him and he's only under control for one more year.
  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) That was quick. Someone always manages to take a s*** on Pods no matter how much he produces. I have to agree with Buehrlee>wood here. Do you really see Pods hitting .300 again? I don't. Can he hit .270-.280 and steal you 25 bases? Probably.
  24. We've ran the Yankees out of the park this series. Great to see.
  25. Jenks didn't have much velocity. Wonder if the kidney stones are still affecting him.
