At the rumored price they would have gone slightly over, but I'm sure they could have traded Coby and taken a few million less in salary back to duck the tax.

I think they view this season as yet another let's see what happens kind of year with this core. Because if they're honest with themselves they know they ain't getting far in the playoffs unless both Lonzo and Zach are fully healthy AND they need either Williams/Ayo/Coby to take huge steps in development. I hope that's why they're avoiding the tax, so they don't start the tax process a year too early for little to no actual benefit. I feel like this org is fine paying the tax for a year or 2 but there's no way they're gonna pay a repeater tax.

lol yup. Although you'd think this just made Durant's price go way up.

They gave up a lot, holy crap. 4 picks and they're all unprotected.

I wonder how many picks they're getting cause that package sucks.

They're splitting the MLE in 3. Looks like they can still use $7.3 million of the MLE if they want to since they used Jones' bird rights. I doubt they're gonna go into the tax though.

So who are the Bulls going to get with a 3.3 million $ MLE? Jalen Smith?

This is just sad...I wonder what plan B is.

That would have required the Nets to participate.

If the Bulls want to stay under the tax, they can only afford to pay Gallinari something like $6.7 million a year. With LaVine on a max contract and Terry on a rookie contract, they have $9.988 million in space before the tax threshold. With Drummond taking up $3.3 million of that, there's only around $6.7 million left. Boston can offer Gallinari $6.5 million on the tax payer's MLE and seemingly don't want to give him more than 1 year. I'm sure they can clear some room later on in the off-season if they need to. All the rumors pointed to Gallinari getting at least 2 years at $7.5 million a year.

Alright, now that the Drummond signing actually happened, I can bust this out.

I don't think you want Drummond playing more than 15-20 minutes a game. Everything I've read from Nets and Sixers fans/sites is that Drummond did very well for them in a back-up center role.

This is the most White Sox Bulls off-season you can imagine so far. Although, what is the equivalent of a non-elite reliever in the NBA? They need to sign more of those.

You also have to wonder how much $300k a year matters for someone like Drummond.

I'm assuming they're just not gonna use the $5 million Theis TPE if they're not willing to go over the tax.

I doubt they were gonna use the full MLE anyhow.

Looks like KC Johnson's sources were right. Gallinari probably gets done soon.

It really sucks to be a fan of a team owned by the Reinsdorfs.

Yeah he's interesting. I doubt he'd get a full MLE. Might be a good backup plan to Gallinari.

NGL I thought Jalen Brunson was actually just Rick Brunson for a while. I remember when Rick played for those awful Bulls teams.
