OMG, you'd never guess who I just met last night!!

Nah, they have some fun parties.... Ah... FAC. -
I don't think compensation draft picks are lost/gained on the result of signing free agents any more.
-
The batting title I can kind of see (he's got some stiff competition), and I'm doubtful about an MVP. I don't think he gets enough media attention to ever win one of those. Not with the Sox, anyways.
-
See, Jas.. You have to look at it from my persepctive. We're not going to get anybody. I know we ain't. This way, if by some chance we do sign someone, I'll be pleasantly surprised.
-
Montreal must dump salary, but you think the Sox are gonna take it? There's really no reason not to be pessimistic about getting Colon. Chances of getting Colon here = .000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%

Don't quote me, but I think they do for AL years.
-
Maggs only won 1 Minor League Batting title (1997 for the Sounds). Jeff debuted on June 10, 1997; Maggs debuted on August 29, 1997.

Trading Crede would be a mistake right now.

Headlines we might see if we get Colon

But just as s***ty.... No, wait... Even more. -
Colon's not coming here anyways, so no use in worrying about it.
-
According to this article from whitesox.com, Maggs is already in the USA...

Headlines we might see if we get Colon

Does it really count as a headline when its buried on page 6 of the Tribune sports page, next to the high school basketball results and the odds on the races at Maywood Park? The front page will probably read something like, "Cubs scoff at Colon; chose not to add him to rotation" and then they'll have expert commentary from Phil Rogers and Rick Morrissey about how they'd rather have Kerry Wood's toenail clippings and Mark Prior's nose hairs instead of Buehrle, Colon, and Garland. Ah, Chicago. -
Picking McGahee at #4 would be incredibly stupid.

I thought the new labor deal removed compensation draft picks for signing free agents...

I think Garland will continue to develop into a solid starter. I remember one game I saw last year against Kansas City... Garland was on the bump and he was absolutely dealing. Aside for that game against Boston, I think that was the best I'd ever see Jon. Wright is still a 50/50, but he did show more consistency towards the end of the year. Barring any injury, I do believe we could realistically pencil in 40-45 wins for our top 3 starters, which is a pretty good start. Last year's play-off teams (wins amongst top 3 pitchers): ATHLETICS: 57; Barry Zito, 23; Mark Mulder, 19; Tim Hudson, 15 YANKEES: 50; David Wells, 19; Mike Mussina, 18, Roger Clemens/Andy Pettitte 13 ANGELS: 47; Jarrod Washburn, 18; Ramon Ortiz, 15; Kevin Appier, 14 TWINS: 41; Rick Reed, 15; Kyle Lohse, 13; Eric Milton, 13. Add another veteran starter, and we've got something cooking here.

Yeah, but I highly doubt that you can develop an injury so serious that it requires a year to heal in Spring Training alone. My guess would be that he hurt himself during the Olympics, as a result of throwing more than he'd been used to, and maybe aggravated that more in Spring Training and in the early 2001 season. I think, at most, Nardi can be blamed only minorly for Rauch.

I Finally got around to watching it... It's a very good movie, IMO; though, truthfully maybe I got more out of it because one of my best friends also is a paranoid schizophrenic. Either way, I reccomend it.
-
But I think that's the whole point of the All-Star Game; to reward players for a solid half by letting them take part in a game with the rest of the stars. Does anyone get heartbroken when the American League loses? I sure as hell don't; I get a bigger rush watching Paul Konerko rip a double or watching Maggs blast a bomb off Jon Leiber. The All-Star Game is an exhibition, it shouldn't matter for anything more than entertainment value.
-
Sirotka will probably never pitch for the Sox again; and that's assuming he even pitches in the Majors again (though, with the Cubs, you never know!). And Contreras can be blamed for a lot of arm problems (you missed Baldwin and maybe Eldred), but not Rauch, like Jason said, Jon had never tasted the MLB by the time he went down.
-
I think it's stupid. The All-Star game is a pointless exhibition... Giving it impact on the World Series, of all things is a stupid, stupid move. If that was Buehrle pitching in the 11th inning for the American League, I'd sure as hell would of wanted the game to be called. No point in making a pitcher miss a start for the All-Star Game. Why do people care so much about it?
-
That's probably a good idea.
-
The only way you'd hear about this out in California, Jason, would be if you watched the Chicago news on WGN Superstation (if you even get that out there).
-
This alone, IMO, is enough for him to get in.
-
I don't think anyone's ever proved that. Hell, they weren't even convicted.
