SN Report: Koch Deal Done, Sox Get Cotts, Holt
doubleM23 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
On the WSI boards, they posted these on the prospects we picked up in the Rule V draft... Brandon O'Neal http://www.topprospectalert.com/MLRamblings/020804bo.html Josh Hochgesang http://gostanford.ocsn.com/sports/m-basebl.../051899aab.html Nothing found so far on guy #3... Felix Arellan... Just reading these two stories, this O'Neal character is, at the very least, interesting. Hochgesang is intriguing, too... Unfortunately, I think we have third base solidifed for a while (I hope!) -
Both Pete Rose and Joe Jackson should be in the Hall of Fame.

If you expect Cotts to climb into a rotation that in a few years is shaping up to include Mark Buehrle, Kris Honel, Jon Rauch, Jon Garland, Dan Wright, and now possibly Russ Ortiz you're nuts. I don't know anything about the guy, but saying that he's going to have a great career already is crazy.

Hey, I'm just quoting Heather.

It's pathetic that our "franchise player," is at best an a slightly above average first baseman... That said, I really don't want to lose Konerko just for Oritz, but I think you all have to realize; he's never going to be an elite player... He is dealable.

god I hope your right, don't we have a power hitting 1st base prospect, Rogowski, or something like that? One of the minor league gurus around here could probably correct me if I'm wrong, but Rogowski isn't a power hitter and he was in like A-ball last year.

Just curious... Where does Koch get the right to talk after melting down in the top of the 9th in Game 5 of the ALDS and giving the Twins the runs they needed to win? Why cant' anyone on this team learn the phrase, "No comment." ???

Christmas Vacation is hilarious... - s*** and bricks... - You know, you shouldn't say that word. - Sorry... s*** and rocks... A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are also must-see for me during Christmas...

But she has boobs. The size of your head.

No support for Mike LaValliere? Frankly, I'm very surprised. And disappointed.

Trusting Phil Rodgers? What has the world come to?

Im a big Griffey fan, but no thanks. Too many questions, and our problem is not offense. Now if Griffey was #2 quality pitcher... True, our problem isn't offense, but a problem is center field. I'll agree, though, if I knew the Sox were going to spend a little money, I'd much rather see it on the pitching side instead of the offense/position player side. But still... Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, Magglio Ordonez, and Ken Griffey, Jr. in one line-up. Oh yeah.

If they loved Valentine so damn much why didn't they grab when he didn't make the Tigers roster? About Valentine, you'll have to ask the A's yourself... Sorry. And as for Koch, notice how I didn't mention his ,meltdown in Game 5 of the ALDS that all but secured the Twins a trip to the ALCS. But again, if you'll read, I never said I don't like the trade because we lost Foulke and gained Koch. That's not my real beef.

I see nothing in Mark Johnson, other than now because of his absence, Miguel Olivio is a lock to be rushed to the big league level, and you cannot rush catchers. You can afford to rush outfielders and infielders, but rushing catchers drastically stunts their growth. Preferably, I'd like to have seen the Sox pick up a "rent-a-catcher" and platoon him with Johnson for '03 and let Olivio have one more season in the minors. IIRC, A.J. Pierzynski was held back in the minors for an extra year, and he's become a stud catcher (I'd say right now, the #2 or #3 catcher in the game right now). That, and any move that puts Josh Paul a little closer to the big leagues terrifies me.

He hasn't earned my trust with big deals that involve big leaguers, yet. And if you notice, I also say that we may win based on the Foulke-for-Koch aspect of the trade, and I really wouldn't be surprised if the Sox win at the minor league level thanks to this trade, as KW has shown incredible skill with the wheelings and dealings of minor leaguers, my beef is with A) the loss of Johnson and now the rush of Olivio to the bigs, which will only hurt us in the long run, and B) the perception of the doghouse that I fear exsists in the organization. And so what if a lot of fans like the trade? That forbids me from saying I dislike it? Jason wrote a great piece on why the deal was a good one, so its not like you don't get both sides of the spectrum at the site. I'm just offering my opinions on why I am suspcisious of this trade. If Koch remains a dominant closer, Foulke falls apart (again), Valentine turns out to be a dud, Johnson continues to suck, Olivio becomes a catching stud, and the PsTBNL become solid prospects, I'll gladly take back what I've written. Until then, I'm going to be suspicious.

Lay off the Bradley education! Hey, I'm in the LAS. Numbers have no meaning to me.

What's with Monday? Are you referring to the Koch for Foulke and MJ trade? I wouldn't contemplate suicide..... I'd much rather kill the parties responsible for the disaster that has become the Chicago White Sox. My life is much too important. I just shake my head and laugh now at how ridiculous this team has become. This team needs a starter and KW is trading for a closer. WTF!!!!! But, if you've heard something different, please share. I think she's referring to when Big Frank announces he's signing with the Dodgers. I thought his free agency ended Saturday.
