  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Cubs. Easy. October, 2003 was arguably the worst month of my life until a hero, a champion, a wonder to behold, a dear good friend of mine intervened and put an end to the horror that had been that month: Mr. Steven Bartman. : That post was epic, can I quote you on that psot on facebook??? :
  2. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 12:46 AM) Oakland's gotta fall off soon right? They have amazing pitching, but THE WORST OFFENSE in the AL. Maybe the Sox will have to send them on their way this weekend... Actually, their offense is much more improved over last year with the additions of Jsho Reddick and Yoenis Cespedes. Plus, former White Sox prospect Chris Carter got called up and now he has 10 homers in 90 at-bats for Oakland this season.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 11:07 PM) If ... if ... if. I say the odds are 50-50 we make the playoffs at best. The Tigers still arguably will win the division that leaves the dreaded double wild card with some high money franchises dare I say it? Favored to make it over us as well. The way our pitching sets up will mean nothing in a one-game wild card matchup. So you're saying there's a chance?
  4. Bummer, I was hoping Da Youkasaurus would hit a homer there.
  5. Myers got the coolest goatee ever. I always tried growing a goatee like that, but it always ends up too bushy for my liking.
  6. Thornton???????? I honstly have no confidence in Thronton anymore after last year.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) He has a reputation of being a guy when he gets injured to look like he's on the brink of death. Whenever De Aza gets hurt, he reminds me of the Rock selling injuries in the wrestling ringg.
  8. Quick, let's get the doctors from Grey's Anatomy here.
  9. Man, I was just watching that. After the ball left the bat and I saw Alexei and De Aza running, I muttered "collision" before it happened, and then I'll be darned, a collision happened. I really hope De Aza will be okay. This collision reminded me of when Magglio and (I think) Valentin or Willy Harris collided. Prolly 2003 or 2004 or so.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 01:54 AM) Showtime Ugggghhhhhhhhh I don't have showtime anymore. I switched back to HBO for "True Blood". :-( Ill switch back to Showtime when "Dexter" comes back on, and keep it for "Shameless". Would've loved to see the Infante conversation, lol. Bummer.
  11. Hopefully Youkasaurus will be back as soon as possible, he really makes a huge difference in the offense.
  12. What channel is this show on? Is it available on On Demand?
  13. I'm thinking of going to tonight's game by taking the Rock Island Line to the 35th street stop, but I heard they were supposed to be doing work on the train tracks and the stop is supposed to be closed until construction is completed. Does anyone know if it's going on now? Will I be able to ake the train to the 35th street stop? Also, I'm gonna try and buy a last-minute ticket from the box office (or a scalper) and I'm hoping that by the tim I get there the upper deck seats will be sold out or close to sold out and they'd sell the remaining lower deck seats for half price. Would this be the case? Would I have a good chance of getting a lower deck seat at half price if I went to the box office just before game time?
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) I do not care about a person's personal or religious beliefs. I don't care if you're an adulterer or a racist or whatever. I do care about a 6'4, 240 pound man striking his wife in the face multiple times. I will not cheer this scum at all. Funny thing is, I'm more forgiving of someone of striking their wife, than I'd forgive a racist. I hate racists as much as I hate religious fundamentalists and people who club baby seals, because two of those are personal beliefs that I find inexcusable and another involves the killing of animls that can't fight back. But I'm easy to forgive, and not judge, a man who strikes his wife because striking someone is often a reaction to rage and bad anger management. As a person who had anger management issues in the past, I can empathize with others who may have issues with anger. Sometimes it takes a major life event to force you to hange, for me it was getting arrested for assault in 2006 after threatening a lady with a baseball bat during a road rage incident. My rage and anger was that great, and I didn't discriminte whether the person my anger was directed towards was a man or a woman. 2006 was a bad year for me and it made me realize I had to change. 2006 was the year the old Don died and the new Don was reborn, and since then I only lost my temper about 4 times, when before I used to lose my temper once or twice a week. Also, I don't find it as appalling to hear about women getting hit by men. What's with some people's strong reactions to Myer's wifebeating incident? Come on now. You don't know the whole story. For all we know, the wife was probably drunk and antagonized Brett too much. I think it's wrong that Brett hit his wife, but I don't think he's a monster for doing so. People make mistakes, and as someone with former anger management issues, I can understand how anger can make people do things that they wouldn't do under normal circumstances. Anger can cloud your judgment similar to alcohol. I also don't understand why guys treat women like they're delicate flowers. It ought to be a case by case situation, cause there's some women out there that are totally butch and can easily beat up any average man. If they were getting rough or hitting a man, then they have every right to be hit back by the man without the guy getting punished for it. Sometimes the legal system is full of hypocrisy, cause a woman can hit a man and get a slap on the wrist, but if a man hits a woman he gets thrown in prison? Come on now. It takes a man to hit a woman, anyway. /green
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) He's lucky to have qualified for his pension, if he did.... Believe he needs 4 yrs service time; close. I thought it was 10 years in order to qualify for pension?
  16. I'm shocked at the people that would prefer Lillibridge over Hudson. Whaaaaaat? Hudson's a veteran who was once a very good 2nd baseman. Lilli never, and will never, amount to anything. I'd rather have Hudson's veteran experience over Lillibridge's underwhelmingness, anyway.
  17. I was too tired to post last night but... SEPTIMO!!!!!!!! The way he got that baserunner out at 2nd base was incredible! :-D That should help Septimo keep a job in the major league roster's bullpen when it's time to demote someone.
  18. Welcome to Soxtalk, Joxer. :-) I'm half Irish, and my dad's side of the family were Irish Catholics from County Armagh in Nothern Ireland and County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. I always hope to visit County Armagh as we'll as Belfast up in th north as well as Dublin and other areas in the Republic someday. :-) Your friend's decription of the Cubs and their fanbase as being of delusions of grandeur really hits it on the head. As for some information on the history of the White Sox, and the fan dynamic in the city of Chicago between the south side and the north side, youtube might be a good source of free videos to watch. I recommend looking on ebay for some White Sox clothes and hats. :-) I'm primarily a fan of the black jerse, but I also like the white jersey and the road grey jersey. I'm not a fan of the red jersey they're wearing on sundays this season, however. Another thing that might really draw you to the white sox as a fan is how the Sox has a special "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" jersey, which is a version of their jersey with a green trim. Check it out. Out here in the Chicago area you can also easily find green St. Patrick's Day White Sox hats in stores and hat stores in malls all over here. Some may have little shamrocks on them as well. Pretty cool. :-) Once again, Welcome to Soxtalk. I hope you stick around, because you can learn a LOT about the white sox and baseball in general just by following this site. You can also follow game threads in live time on this thread while you listen or watch live game broadcasts or when you simply follow scoring updates on mlb.com or yahoo. It's definitely fun to participate in the game threads because you get to kind of follow along the game with other people who love the Sox. I also definitely credit soxtalk with broadening my own knowledge of the White Sox and baseball in general ever since I arrived here in 2008.
  19. I thought Deunte Heath was supposed to start this game? I seem to recall that today's start was the reason he was called up...
  20. I'm gonna miss watching all the awesome homerums Ohman gave up that caused me to loudly exclaim, "OH,mannnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!" Just before I come to the realization that the awesome home run I just watched fly into the bleachers actually helped the other team, and then I lose my temper. I'll always remember all those moments.
  21. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) I really really hope that whole "Yooouuuuk" thing stays in Boston. I love the Yooooooouuuk!" chants. I even did it myself while watching Youkilis at-bats last night. I also loved the "Boooooooooooooonnnnnneeee!" chants that we had for a while when Boone Logan was here.
  22. Hahahaha, thank you very muck, Knightni. :-D. I appreciate it! :-)
  23. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) I can't believe people are really willing to conclude, well, anything about this guy less than 300 ML ABs into his career. For context, Paul Konerko was barely hitting over .200 at the age of 22, about 400 ABs into his career. I think I'll wait until he's about 1000 ABs into his career until I start to draw any conclusions. I was just about to post the exact same messagee. You took the words right out of my mouth. If I recall correctly, from the last time I looked at Konerko's stats, he had poor stats in, like, the first 4 or 5 years of his major league career. It wasn't until about 2004 that Konerko really started becoming the batter he is today.
  24. To be honest, I hate superheroes. I like the anti-heroes. Instead of seeing super good babyfaced boy scouts like Superman, Batman, and Captain America, I rather see flawed and gritty anti-heroes like the Punisher, Ghost Rider, Deadpool, etc. I do lik Iron Man, though, as well as War Machine.
  25. QUOTE (knightni @ May 1, 2012 -> 01:11 AM) That medieval dragon/shepherd is pretty cool. Yea, I really like that one. ...I'm tempted to use that medieval design for a design for myself now... that site is adicting to me.
