  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) I'd hate to see him stop right now. I hope he pulls the trigger on a major trade. I know we have some lineup upgrades already if Eaton opens in CF and the new third baseman as well to go with Garcia for a full year in right, but I'd like to see a huge trade involving multiple players. Surely somebody wants Beckham, a former first rounder and some of you insist DeAza and Viciedo have value as well. I'd like to trade one of them. How bout Beckham, Viciedo and a minor league pitching stud all in one package for some more good players? If our new 3B and Eaton aren't ready for the majors, our team is gonna resemble last year's team so much. I'd say 90 plus losses will be a certainty. I'm confident he'll make a good trade UNLESS our players have absolutely no value or trash value, which I guess, is possible. I believe in Rick Hahn, though. I love your enthusiasm, Greg, but I think we need to exercise some patience. First off, lets just consider 2014 to be a "warm-up" season for Garcia, Abrue, Eaton, Davidson, Johnson, etc. The best course of action for the Sox is to just let the team play and gain experience. If they happen to lose another 90 games again in 2014, then at least they will get another top draft pick in 2015. Losing in 2014 and getting another top draft pick in 2 years in a row will do wonders in helping this team improve. Even though the Sox wont have 1st pick, just look at where the Washington Nationals are nowadays after drafting Strasburg and Harper in back-to-back drafts. If the Sox do their homework and draft actual baseball players instead of football players with tools in the 2014 and 2015 drafts, then the Sox will be much better off for 2016 and beyond and they could be in the same situation where the Nationals are now: in playoff contention. Maybe they can compete in 2015, but my money is on 2016 with this current crop. BTW, I think Jose Abrue is gonna be the best Hahn signing ever. As for Adam Dunn, even though even Dunn himself wants to leave, I don't see any harm in keeping Dunn for 2014 and seeing if he builds enough value so that the sox can trade him at the july 2014 trade deadline for a prospect or 2. Hell, it'd be nice if they trade him to the Mariners at the deadline for a package such as Stefen Romero and Victor Sanchez.
  2. Eric Surkamp is a great claim by the white sox. I've been watching Surkamp for 2 or 3 years now. He will be like Quintana 2.0, as in another nondescript low-level signing/claim that pans out, I honestly believe that. When the Sox first got Quintana, I had a feeling that he'd be a good pitcher for the Sox, and now I'm getting the same vibes with Surkamp as well. Surkamp will be eons better than Humber and Axelrod, and I believe he'll be better than Santiago but not as good as Quintana. Just my predictions. Rienzo is meh. I would not be at all surprised if the 2014 rotation turns out to be Sale/Quintana/Danks/Johnson/Surkamp.
  3. Not sure if anyone saw this, but the Joliet Slammers had an article on their site about trying to get Ozzie. It kinda feels like the article is satire, lol. http://jolietslammers.com/archives/8650
  4. Just in case those that rejoined the STBL doesnt see the commish note, and to those who never played in the STBL the past 2 seasons that might want to take a chance at a free 20-team fantasy baseball league: ATTENTION LEAGUE!!! This league will be CLOSED DOWN. The renewal of this league is intended only as a consolidation effort to reduce my yearly redraft 20-team leagues from 3 to 2, and to retain the active and competitive managers from this league by bringing them to my other two leagues. My apologies to the people who wanted a Soxtalk-only league. It was becoming increasingly difficult to recruit 19 other managers from Soxtalk each year, and most people from Soxtalk were not that appreciative of my efforts since there's not that many fantasy players on Soxtalk. To those who are fantasy players and those that enjoyed playing in the Soxtalk 20-team league the past 2 seasons, I WANT YOU to come and join one of my other leagues, or both if you want to double the dose of fantasy fun. My other 2 leagues are the SZBL: Strike Zone Baseball League and the GSBL: Grand Slam Baseball League. The SZBL has been in existence since 2006 and the GSBL has been in existence since 2007. Both leagues' set-up are exactly like this league, same scoring categories, same everything. The GSBL will be drafting on Friday March 22nd at 9pm CDT. The SZBL will be drafting on Friday March 29th at 9pm CDT. If you want to join the GSBL, the info to join from the "get another team" page is: League ID: 13336 Password: grand If you want to join the SZBL, the info to join at the "get another team" page is: League ID: 13186 Password: strike the "get another team page" is: (copy/paste url if you have to) http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1...league?.scrumb= If you're having difficulty with joining one of my other leagues, PLEASE SEND ME A PM THROUGH SOXTALK and I'll send you a personal invite. Please email me even if it says "league is full", because I can check to see if the league you want to join is really full or if one of the teams from last year hasn't joined yet. If one of the teams from last year hasn't joined yet, then I'll have to delete that team and send you an invite after I free up that slot. Thanks, and I really hope to see you guys in the SZBL and the GSBL! The SZBL currently has 12 out of 20 teams signed up, we have 8 vacancies from turnover and managers moving on to our dynasty leagues. The GSBL currently has 16 out of 20 teams signed up, we have 4 vacancies in the GSBL. Thanks again, and once again I hope to see you guys join my other leagues. -Don
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) We doing this again this year? Hey Blaze, yes and no. Due to my heavy work schedule, and the difficulty of getting 19 guys from Soxtalk, I decided to consolidate my leagues, so the Soxtalk league will disband and Soxtalk guys can instead join my other 2 yearly redraft 20-team leagues: the SZBL (in existence since 2006) and the GSBL (in existence since 2007). After 2 seasons, it seemed people on Soxtalk preferred the other soxtalk leagues instead of a 20-teamer. I will send out invites for the soxtalk league, just to temporarily reform it, so that people who played last year can transfer to either the SZBL or the GSBL. Then i'll close the soxtalk league before the draft. Keep an eye out for the invite and follow the instructions in the commish comments in the STBL for information on how to join the SZBL and/or the GSBL.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) Trayce Thompson maybe? LOL! Yea, Thompson. For some reason, I always get the names Thompson and Robinson mixed up. I also always get Lauren mixed up with Laura, Jessica mixed up with Jennifer, Tony mixed up with Nick (no idea how), Mark mixed up with Greg (again, no idea how), and Thompson mixed up with Robinson. It's like I'm retarded or something.
  7. Some of what I can see... (13 for 2013) 1. Dayan Viciedo improves, hits 35 homers and raises his avg. 2. Jose Quintana shows that 2012 wasn't a fluke and repeats his stellar performance. 3. Alejandro De Aza swipes 30 bases. 4. Chris Sale repeats his 2012. 5. Rios repeats his 2012. 6. Dunn shows that 2011 was an abberation by hitting another 40 homers. 7. Simon Castro somehow gets called up because someone got injured, and ends up being Quintana 2.0. 8. Courtney Hawkins hits 25 homers in the minors. 9. Keon Barnum hits 15 homers in the minors. 10. Tracee Robinson improves his average while continuing his ability as a potential 20-20 guy in the minors. 11. Jared Mitchell finally gets over his injury and improves his average, steals 25 bases, and hits 10 home runs along with a high obp in the minors. 12. Marcus Semien shows that his 2012 minor league season wasn't a fluke and people start seeing him as the next 2nd baseman in a post-Beckham White Sox. 13. Donnie Veal ends up being the White Sox closer and racks up 20 saves after Addisson Reed has 4 consecutive blown saves.
  8. Voted for you about 10 times. Will vote some more the next couple days. :-)
  9. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) I think he meant that they were moving from the 'burbs to the city, so a re-branding was in order Yea. I have no idea how southsider didn't get that from my post. I'm stumped.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 07:04 AM) The Marlins didn't move. They were an expansion team. Dude, they moved into a new stadium.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) That's odd, since the White Sox, more than any organization, have changed their uniform/logo/color set. It's actually more White Sox to change the black and silver. (silver, wtf, do you mean gray?) The White Sox were more associated with red and blue than black and white for almost their entire history. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/history/uniforms.jsp 1906 - white and blue 1912 - white and navy blue 1917 - white and navy blue 1932 - white, blue, red, yellow, fugly 1939 - white and red 1951 - white, black, and red - basically today's uniforms with red outlines 1969 - white and blue 1971 - white and red 1976 - white and blue and collared and shorts and just f***ing terrible! 1982 - white, red, blue 1991 and on - white, black, gray (and sometimes sleeveless) To say you'll stop being a Sox fan if they change their uniform color scheme, when it's only been black/gray for 15% of the franchise's history, shows two things - 1 your ties to the Sox clearly aren't deep, 2 you are clueless on Sox history I'm well aware of the white sox history, it's just that I always hated all those uniforms that had light blue and red colors. Plus, I started being a Sox fan around 1993 or so when Mike LaValliere was the catcher, so for the entire time I was a Sox fan, they always wore black and silver/grey or whatever you want to call that color. Part of what appealed to me as a Sox fan IS the jersey color, and for me there was always a symbollic partnership with the black sox uniform and the South Side of Chicago. Honestly, I just can't see it any other way now. The sox had so many different uniforms all these years because they never had anything that was worthy enough to stick, nothing that was iconic enough to stay. Pretty much all the past Sox uniforms were garbage, and I'm saying that as a long-time sox fan. It wasn't until 1991 in the White Sox's long history that someone with artistic talent finally designed a Sox uniform that represents the South Side very well and looks very sharp to the eye. The current Sox uniforms, had they been introduced in the 1910's, would've been the Sox uniforms for a century now like how the Yankees pretty much used the same uniforms for a century. You just don't change a uniform once you find something that works. That's just a collossal marketing mistake, and it's bound to piss off thousands of fans who feel that the current uniforms are too iconic to change now. Besides, if there was anything I'd change at all with any of the uniforms, I'd change how the road grey Sox uniform has that ugly cursive lettering for Chicago to something that looks more old-fashioned like CHICAGO in standard text, like how the Yankees and Boston has old-styled text on their uniforms. So yea, I've always been aware of all the past Sox uniforms, and I think they were all UGLY. The only thing I liked about any of the past uniforms were the Sox logo on the 1912 and 1917 uniforms. And not only that, but as a fan I feel that if the Sox ownership changed their uniforms now, such as getting rid of the black and grey colors, that it would be a huge BETRAYAL to the fanbase. It's not like the Sox are moving to another city like how the Marlins moved to Miami. So I do consider my ties to the Sox to be deep if I get that offended by the Sox changing their uniforms to something dumb like what they had from 1906-1911 and 1932-1990.
  12. QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 01:48 AM) What exactly would a 1993 throwback entail? A Comiskey patch and no names on the back of the jerseys? I think that's all... Side note/Bitter argument: I would be totally in favor of some new uniforms soon. Nothing "new" really, my idea would just be a variation on the 1917 uniform and logo. With a navy blue hat with white S-O-X instead of that pinstripe hat. The day the Sox stop wearing black and silver is the day I stop being a white sox fan. Seriously, why are a lot of people unappreciative of the iconic uniforms the sox wear right now? Why do people want the white sox to wear blue??? Hell, it was nauseating last season when I had to put up with the sox wearing those stupid red uniforms on Sunday home games. It really did piss me off, because Sunday games were games I was able to watch on tv during my hectic schedule, and I get confronted with them wearing stupid red uniforms that the Red Sox should be wearing.
  13. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Ok........... This offseason's minor league signing truely have me scratching my head. Andy Gonzalez. Randy Ruiz. Nick Giarraputo. Now Stewart? At least he's young, but I'd be shocked if there wasn't better options out there. Even for Triple-A fillers, some of these guys are bottom of the barrel. Actually, out of all those guys, I think Randy Ruiz might be the only one that can help the Sox. He was never really given a chance, but I think he can help as a 1B/dh off the bench like how Daryl Ward was wit the Cubs a few years ago. However, with the make-up of the team, it seems like there's no room or him, so he'll more than likely be in Charlotte, waiting in the wings in case Konerko or Dunn ever make a trip to the DL. I hate the Stewart signing. I'd rather see the Sox sign Sammy Gervacio, he was once an Astros prospect, but last I saw he was pitching in the Mexican league. If the Sox had signed Gervacio, I think he could've been a surprise closer candidate, but I think a lot of people here on Soxtalk would HATE his windup. Lol, go ahead and look him up on youtube. :-P
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Wait what? That's actually a real Romney ad? I thought it was a spoof or something, lol. Romney's got my vote now after watching that clip...SMH. Professor Wang over at Princeton Election Consortium has it Obama 319 to Romney 219. This guy got the exact EV count for Bush/Kerry and was 1 EV off in Obama/McCain. http://election.princeton.edu/ Professor Wang predicted Obama 319 to Romney 219??? LMAO. That's the same thing I predicted. Lol, I love how a Princton guy predicted the same thing I did, lol. 319-219, book it!
  15. I played around with an electoral map yesterday and now I'm predicting Obama will win with 319 electora votes versus Romney's 219.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) You could hire the best marketing team in the world. The problem is the stadium isn't located in the middle of Wrigleyville, it's stuck on the south side. That's a battle in Chicago you'll never win with casual fans regardless of what you do. If the Sox was located in Wrigleyville, then I would never go. I live in the south suburbs and I never went to Wrigleyville in my entire life because it's just too far for me. The White Sox's location in the South Side is a perfect location for me because all I have to do is jump on I-80 then I-57, or I can take the Rock Island Metra line. I'm tired of people saying the sox is at a bad location, because I don't think that's entirely true. The Sox's location in the South Side is much more convenient for me than Wrigleyville. However, the reason I don't go to that many games is because I simply can't afford it that much, which how much parking is as well as how overpriced the tickets and food at the stadium is. Even taking the metra burns a hole in my wallet.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Way out Midwest there was this fella... fella I wanna tell ya about. Fella by the name of Adam Dunn. At least that was the handle his loving parents gave him, but he never had much use for it himself. Mr. Dunn, he called himself "The Dude". Now, "Dude" - that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from. But then there was a lot about the Dude that didn't make a whole lot of sense. And a lot about where he lived, likewise. But then again, maybe that's why I found the place so darned interestin'. They call Chicago the "Windy City." I didn't find it to be that, exactly. But I'll allow there are some nice folks there. 'Course I can't say I've seen London, and I ain't never been to France. And I ain't never seen no queen in her damned undies, so the feller says. But I'll tell you what - after seeing Chicago, and this here story I'm about to unfold, well, I guess I seen somethin' every bit as stupefyin' as you'd see in any of them other places. And in English, too. So I can die with a smile on my face, without feelin' like the good Lord gypped me. Now this here story I'm about to unfold took place back in 2012 - just about the time of our conflict with Miggy, Prince and the Tigers. I only mention it because sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude, in Chicago. And even if he's a lazy man - and the Dude was most certainly that. Quite possibly the laziest in Cook County, which would place him high in the runnin' for laziest worldwide. But sometimes there's a man, sometimes, there's a man. Aw. I lost my train of thought here. But... aw, hell. I've done introduced him enough. Adam f***ing Dunn POTY
  18. That's a pic of my facial hair above. :-p. I'm a proud moustache wearer, and not only a I a grower, but I'm also a show-er. I've shaved my moustache off only once in the past 12 years, and I like having a little goatee to go along with it, along with the unshaven look everwhere else because I just hate the clean-shaven look.
  19. Eww, the girl looks like a collie. :-\ (talking about Danks' girl there) If I was an athlete or a celebrity, my females of choice would be hip hop model types, such as Bria Myles, Solei, etc, or any woman that looked like Serena Williams or porn star Kelly Starr. :-p
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) Okay Goth version of Kelly Clarkson, let's hope your singing inspired the White Sox to score some runs here. Is anyone else getting a bit tired of the singing of God, Bless America? Maybe it's just me. You're not alone Caulfield, I feel the same way.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) When is Youkilis's wife due? I know that's coming up too. Hopefully it's after the next couple weeks. Hopefully the Sox just tells Youkilis' wife to hold it till after the post-season.
  22. Southside Don likes this. *thumbs up*
  23. Oh my god, I'm so sick of the royals. I wish they would just bend over and take it like the scrubs they are. Ugh.
  24. According to my sources, Jeff Kent will be on Survivor. I hope he gets voted off early.
