  1. The issue with Mitchell is the Type 1 diabetes. Even if you think it's a not a huge deal, it limits his value once he's in your organization but many teams wouldn't be interested in trading for him either.
  2. You aren't wrong. It's not all about money though. The White Sox literally don't have room for any of these guys to play. Especially with Great Falls being removed next year.
  3. They won't be able to sign prep guys in rounds 2-5 unless they save money in round 1.
  4. Why would players declaring for the draft care about that though?
  5. If I'm a professional prospect playing in a non BCS level bowl game during my junior year, there's no shot I'm risking my future playing in an exhibition game. I'll never blame guys for that decision.
  6. College football players are amateurs and none of them should willingly play in exhibition games. That's a completely different argument.
  7. Those guys aren't going to sit out the year. Have you ever played a team sport? If their teammates choose to play, these guys will b**** and then they'll strap up and play. Someone might sit for legit health concerns, but they won't sit out the year because their salaries got reduced if the rank and file voted to play.
  8. This is the real question to me: will the owners lose more money by not playing or will they lose more money by playing and paying prorated salaries? If they won't lose as much by not playing, I think they offer their tiered payment system to whoever wants it and if not they'll cancel the season. That point about the players has been lost in all of this though. People don't quite grasp that they won't see another penny after Sunday without a new agreement.
  9. This is a pretty solid summary of what the MLBPA is trying to accomplish with offering the extra games: https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/2498291/the-mlbpa-and-owners-are-in-a-brawl-right-now-and-heres-a-full-breakdown-of-it The owners have no interest in playing 100 games. They need to get the playoffs in. I also seriously doubt that the owners will pay prorated salaries. If the latest proposal from owners went to a vote, I think the players would vote yes with 65% of the league making under $1 million. It's going to be interesting to see who gives in here and where taht occurs.
  10. Baseball America updated their mock draft today. They have Patrick Bailey but they linked the White Sox to Tyler Soderstrom which is the first it's been mentioned publicly.
  11. Actually, some seem to think they can file for it. Once the players and owners agree to a deal though, the Uniform Player Contract likely gets reinstated by the commissioner and their payments will continue though. This thing really hasn't been reported correctly which shouldn't surprise anyone.
  12. It's in the agreement. They aren't allowed to file for unemployment. To my knowledge anyway.
  13. They aren't allowed to collect unemployment because they're employed by the Oakland Athletics.
  14. I think Reid Detmers might be the most-realistic, best case scenario for the White Sox in the first round. He's pretty young for a junior, would move fairly quickly and offers upside while being a pretty safe bet. I wrote about him here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/27/2020-draft-preview-reid-detmers-lhp/
  15. Yeah it's really ugly. What Oakland is doing sucks but this thing has been reported incorrectly because lots of things are being reported incorrectly. Manfred froze the Uniform Player Contract for minor league players. It allows the Athletics to stop paying their minor leaguers. Reporters keep saying that they won't get paid for the rest of the season. That isn't necessarily true. If the league and players hammer out a deal and Manfred reinstates the UPC, then Oakland minor leaguers get paid again. It's still shitty for sure but at least those are the facts of the matter. They've met with him over Zoom and even talked money with his representation. If it's out there this much though, I'd bet on them going a different direction. Vaughn has the better hit tool but Torkelson has more raw power and in game power. Torkelson is the better prospect but they'll both be the #1 and #2 1B prospects in the game
  16. Kelley went in the first to Cleveland.
  17. Kiley McDaniel released his latest mock with intel on all teams: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/29216982/kiley-mcdaniel-2020-mlb-mock-draft-20 He has Patrick Bailey to the Sox again. I will say this about it: I know that the Sox and Bailey's camp have talked money. 11. Chicago White Sox: Patrick Bailey, C, North Carolina State Chicago is looking for college bats, and Bailey fits this pick very well in terms of value and the White Sox's system. It's a common connection in the industry.
  18. Austin Hendrick is the latest prep outfielder to come from Pennsylvania and he could be a fit for the White Sox. Steve Hasman (Sleepy-Harold) chimes in with the profile here. https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/25/2020-draft-preview-austin-hendrick-of/
  19. For Patreon Subscribers, I mocked all five rounds for the White Sox. I included write-ups, video and bonus amounts for those interested: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/25/2020-five-round-mock-draft-chicago-white-sox/
  20. The issue with this is that the owners kind of have proof that the agreement from March didn't refer to playing games without fans. It's clearly right there in the documentation. Tony Clark is just bad at his job. The players got paid through May, convinced the owners to have a draft (albeit a sham of one) and they get their service time in a lost season. While focusing on all that, they missed the fine print. They need to and will negotiate a new deal this week. It sounds like the solution could be prorated salaries for players but deferred down the line a bit. Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday that some owners want to just get started and pay the salaries and other owners don't. This is a fight on multiple fronts. While being mostly pro player, what these guys did to their future members in the draft makes it pretty tough for me to actually feel bad for them.
  21. Yep. It's coming. I had a similar mindset to this when we had JJ Cooper on. I said the White Sox losing Great Falls wasn't that big of a deal if they could field two AZL and two DSL teams if allowed. JJ made a great point though. He presented this scenario: what if a player is great in the AZL for his rookie season and then the club promotes to Kannapolis for full season the following year. The player really struggles ad Kanny isn't the right fit. Do you send that guy back to the AZL for short season complex ball since there is no more short season rookie ball? You'd usually send that player to Great Falls with the intention of bringing back to Kannapolis soon.
  22. I think they will. They have 5 picks totaling around $7.8 million. Those 5 picks will cost Reinsdorf a total of $500K this year. The rest of the bonuses are over the next two years. They should be expected to go over their pool if necessary.
  23. Reinsdorf has a long history of hating draft spending and being cheap. They've spent close to 5% over their pool the last three years though.
  24. Some of you know Steve as @NWI_Steve on twitter. He's kind of like a wrestling heel with White Sox takes. He joined Mike Rankin and I recently and it was a fun discussion. Listen here- https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/22/futuresox-podcast-steve-paradzinski-nwi-steve-of-on-tap-sports-net/
  25. Pete Crow-Armstrong has a great baseball name and he's the latest pro prospect to come from Harvard Westlake High School in California. Sean Williams has the details here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/05/22/2020-draft-preview-pete-crow-armstrong-of/
