QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Guys, Sox can't sign him because of the Robert restrictions. I believe they can't sign anyone for over 300k until 2019, IIRC. There is no way they aren't going to have him subject to International Pool money. It would open up a can of worms that they don't want opened. I don't see how mlb can make him an international amateur again after playing in the United States this year. This is a precedent that's never been set before. That's why it will be really interesting to see what happens.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) It will be a really interesting case study in how much the draft limits contract size if he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He's ranked lower and is younger and therefore more risky than Luis Robert, so it should be below the $25 mil he recieved, but it would probably be above the highest draft bonus. Wild guess, it would end up being around $10-12 mil. I think Maitan blows past what Luis Robert got on the open market. He was the most highly regarded Venezuelan amateur signing in quite some time with Miguel Cabrera comps being thrown around. He held his own as a 17 year old in Rookie ball last year and likely is in A ball as an 18 year old this next season. I think he'd get $30 million plus easily.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) With the Red Sox players, they were released from their contract from MLB but still were paid full amount from contract This is true. None of those guys played for the Red Sox though. Maitan was stateside in A ball this year.

https://theathletic.com/116743/2017/10/02/r...igning-scandal/ Braves also had a deal with a 14 year old for 2019 class. This is quite the slippery slope if true. The majority of teams have agreements for guys already in 2018, 2019, and 2020. It's the nature of the international market. This could get really interesting. keithlawVerified account @keithlaw Following More Related: There are int'l kids who can't legally sign until July 2nd, 2020, who already have verbal agreements with teams. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) I've been following a lot of the draft stuff but it seems like there isn't much talk about De Sedas. In a very sincere way, what makes you think he will be in consideration for 1-1? I saw that he just lost out to Gorman at the UA home run derby and that he is a good athlete, but I couldn't find much more about him even though he is ranked so high. Just scouting reports and video. I know he goes to the same HS as Francisco Lindor but that's who he reminds me of. Looks like he may fill out and have to move to 3B eventually but I really like the profile

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs...s-as-braves-gm/ Wow. Resigns apparently due to impropriety regarding their LatAm program. Considering what happened with BoSox, this must have been significantly worse, will be interesting to see what happens. John Hart is still their President of baseball ops. In 2016,the Braves gave Kevin Maitan $4.5 million out of Venezuela. They had multiple signings from Venezuela including a catcher named Abraham Gutierrez. He wasn't that highly regarded among the industry and Atlanta gave him $3.53 million. I've seen speculation on twitter these signings could be linked. It's common for teams to sign players from one trainer in return for signing lesser players from that same trainer. This could be really bad though. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) You're right it did, they will now give up a 3rd round pick if they are under the tax threshold, which the Sox will be. My apologies. https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2016/11/30/138...ails-luxury-tax Let 'er rip then! Here's another really good explanation of the rules. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/08/offs...ffer-rules.html

This is really easy guys. If they didn't think he was ready to play then he wouldn't be the #2 QB on game days.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) Totally agree with this. I haven't read up on it, but did they add the proposed rule about not being able to draft top 3 in consecutive years? It's not in any of the explanations from the outlets that have reported "details". I really hope that it's not in there. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) If we do get someone like Hankins at lower slot, going to be a lot of fun to be able to get a round 2 of a Joe Gray Jr. That's what makes this draft interesting. This 2nd round is going to have a lot of prep players that maybe would have been in the teens the past few years. White Sox 2nd rounder will likely be in the 42-46 range.

It would be nice if Sox lose tonight and Reds win. Then they only need 1 more loss or Cincy win to keep the 4th pick.

Lottery Reform has been approved: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2085100...healthy-players I actually think that the new rules will encourage more tanking. In the old system, they drew 3 teams for the lottery and put teams 4-14 by record. Team with worst record had a 25% chance, 2nd worst record 19.9% and 3rd worst at 15.6%. Now they are including the 4 worst teams in the drawing and putting the odds at 14% for each starting in 2019. Instead of 3 teams tanking for the 1st pick, I think the league could have as many as 10 teams tanking to get into the bottom 4 because those teams all have an equal chance now of obtaining the #1 pick in a given year. This new system doesn't really make any sense in my opinion. -
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Considering some say Jenista and Bohm are both future 1B, Beer could be the fourth college 1B off the board if these rankings stood. That's quite a drop. But looking at the draft as a whole, usually a little more than half the picks before our second round pick are college players, and we will probably have a pick around 45, so college players that would be available would probably be in the mid-20s in these rankings. All 30 teams will have 1st round picks this year. The teams that were comp round B last year will be Comp Round A this year which is 8 teams. Out of all the free agents that might receive Qualifying Offers (Hosmer, Moustakas, Cain, Arrieta, Cobb, Cueto, Lynn, Tanaka, Davis) Kansas City, St Louis, and Tampa Bay are only teams that might get picks after round 1. That would add 5 more picks to end of round. Sox 2nd pick should be between 44-50 somewhere.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Take Bowen. Odds are he is getting kicked out of the NCAA. So he does something for a year (maybe Europe) and then declares for the NBA draft. No skin off of the NBA's back as they still get their guy in a year. Bowen isn't like some superstar NBA talent though. He might be a 1st round pick. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) So I had my Echo on and listened to Hampton and OB after the game. I am really starting to believe they want the Bears to lose for the complaining. They have made their beds and now if they win, they are still pissed off. A caller mentioned that he had seen their entire careers and they had played on some real lousy teams, and they just tried to humiliate the guy. Its funny for a while. They definitely are catering to the Superfan type of person. Ditka, sausage, Bears.... But from how they ripped everyone from Fox on down, you would have thought they lost 50-0 yesterday. We all know Cooper made one of the dumbest plays in history, but OB, that isn't Fox's fault. It isn't his position coach's fault. I get it, you think they suck, but it isn't their fault. Yeah, Fox tried to make a laugh out of it a bit at his press conference. What good does having an anuerism over it at that stage do? Big Cat and Olin Kreutz are pretty good. I listen to that if I ever do postgame.

A little background on these guys: Tim Bittner was drafted by the White Sox in 2001 and traded to LAA for Scott Schoenweis. He was the Astros Northeast Area Scout and signed guys like Tyler White and Derek Fisher. John Tumminia was his signing scout with the Sox so there is some familiarity. I think he's on as the Northeast Cross Checker with Sox. Juan Alvarez: Former major league pitcher. He was the South Florida Area Scout and Latin America cross checker for the Indians. He was the signing scout for recent draftee and top prospect Tristan Mckenzie.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Yep. Looking at the stats, the difference between Gallo and the rest is Gallo takes more walks which gives him more opportunities to score more runs for his team. Gallo is more of a left handed Chris Carter. Hits some bombs, draws some walks, K's a ton and hits for s***. Gallo is better than Chris Carter though. Gallo's 2017 with Rangers: .210/.333/.538 with a .364 wOBA and 123 wRC+. He has 38 homers and a ridiculous .329 ISO. Chris Carter had one season better than that. In 2012 with the A's, he had a .369 wOBA and 137 wRC+. In 2014 Carter hit .227/.308/.491 with a .346 wOBA and 125 wRC+. In 2016 with Milwaukee, Carter hit .222/.321/.499 with a wRC+ 112 and a .346 wOBA. Carter has 1 season with a slugging percentage over .500. Gallo's is .538 this year. -
