  1. What should the realistic return be for Swarzak? I didn't realize how good he's been. He's a rental but 44 IP, 9.82 K/, 2.29 FIP and an fWAR of 1.5.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I'm just looking at MLBPipeline, but he's a decent prospect...he's only 19, but projects to be a possible CF with a better than average arm. Considering they got him and 3 other warm bodies, seems like a pretty nice return to me, given what we just got back. Brayan Hernandez wouldn't even likely be in the top 30 in the Sox system. He was going to be #9 on BA midseason list. #6 according to pipeline. Marlins pretty much got trash back but Phelps has been just okay. 30 years old and has another year of control. 47 IP, 9.77 K/9, 3.69 FIP and 0.3 fWAR.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) So Brian Cashman was just on MLB radio and actually said he and Kenny hammered this deal out. He is very proud of his system and mentioned that often times other GMs will ask about some of his top guys, and he said he has to try and make it clear, that because of the depth of his system, oftentimes his 8-12 might be more equivalent to another team's 1-5. Other GMs don't want to hear that when he is trying to take guys like Torres and Mateo and Rutherford off the table. Sounds like they really wanted Quintana. We must have been asking for Torres and Rutherford or something. I bet the Sox were being fair with offers but honestly, Yanks would have to deal Torres to top Eloy Jimenez anyway. Jimenez is better than anyone in Yankees system.
  4. Getting anything for Swarzak is a win because he was a minor league deal guy but it seems like there is some interest out there: Jon Morosi‏Verified account @jonmorosi 15m15 minutes ago More Anthony Swarzak has appeal at #TradeDeadline because of multi-inning capability: 17 appearances of 4+ outs, 0.98 ERA in those games. @MLB 6 replies 28 retweets 44 likes Jon Morosi‏Verified account @jonmorosi Jul 12 More Anthony Swarzak is a sleeper trade candidate. He's having career year with #WhiteSox, will be free agent after '17; 1.00 WHIP in 41 IP. @MLB
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Rough start for Adams. Seems he's followed up his great start with stinkers this year He had a 2.89 xFIP as a 21 year old in AA prior to tonight.
  6. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) Amado Nunez, most likely. Also Robert obviously if we're counting him. The Sox have $4.75 million in International Bonus Money. They spent $600K on 2 players. I highly doubt they have Texas $4 million. Probably like $1.5 million tops. It wasn't disclosed when we reached out.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Did they ever announce new rotation after Q left Yes. Pelfrey tonight, Holland on Sunday. Gonzalez vs Dodgers on Tuesday and Rodon on Wednesday.
  8. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:59 AM) I get that scoreboard watching is fun, but in all honest picks 1-5 are a crapshoot anyway. From 2002-2014 there were four guys that lived up to the hype. I don't care where we draft, as long as we find the right player. This is the wrong way to look at it. You want to pick as high as possible in every draft round and have the highest bonus pool possible.
  9. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) There is no way that I would have helped the cubs chances of reaching the world series again. Hahn felt differently but as a cub fan growing up in Wilmette, he does not share the animosity that most south side sox fans have for the cubs. Bob Nightengale's Tweets appeared to confirm that Milwaukee was trying hard to get Quintana. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/885883624641355778 So Epstein was concerned that Hahn would trade Q to the Brewers. Perhaps Hahn should have asked for more from Epstein or went back to the Brewers and given them the last opportunity to trade for him, or maybe held on to Q at least until the end of the trade deadline. I would never deal with Epstein or the cubs, ever. Eloy Jimenez is better than anyone the Brewers could offer. It was a great deal.
  10. Excellent article on the deal from Jeff Passan who says White Sox have #1 system in baseball: https://sports.yahoo.com/jose-quintana-trad...-195650568.html
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Also, I am going to be very interested to see who in Charlotte is mirroring Q. It almost has to be either Giolito or Lopez. I really don't think either of those guys is coming up when Q gets traded. 2nd half rotation: Rodon/Shields/Pelfrey/Gonzalez/Return of Covey or Holmberg. They want to lose and lose a lot. Could obviously see Lopez at some point but I don't think Giolito is an option yet.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) I think those are acceptable returns and probably realistic; but is Hahn willing to come down that much? He wasn't in the winter. You could probably throw the Astros in the mix; leave out Tucker and Martes, and they could put a deal together that is similar to the Brewer deal (Fisher, Whitley and whatever else, e.g.) I wouldn't personally make an Astros deal without Kyle Tucker included.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) This is a good point on The Yanks past, but I don't think the Sox want to wait til the Last couple days of June. I really think people are goin g to be disappointed in the return for Q. I agree with Brian here but only because people have unrealistic expectations. I know that baseball teams aren't sitting around looking at publication top prospect lists to make deals. However, when looking at a prospective deal, I think a top 30ish prospect, another back end top 100, an org top 10, and an upside flyer is realistic for Quintana. He's not Chris Sale. He'll bring back a lot though. After reading Heyman's piece today, it seems like Hahn is playing this thing perfectly. It's the same script as Jake Peavy and Chris Sale beforehand. They are asking for the sun and the moon and ultimately will accept "the sun". By asking the Yanks for Torres (Hahn likely knows this isn't happening) and Clint Frazier (Possible real #1 target) he's setting an unrealistic bar. Hopefully, Cashman agrees to Frazier and then you work in 2 guys instead of a monster package and so on. Something like Frazier, Adams, Florial, and Abreu would be a good deal for Sox but I do believe the fan base would be underwhelmed. I could see something like Corey Ray, Brandon Woodruff and Isan Diaz as well. I think that would be looked at as a "poor deal" but in reality it might be the best that they can do.
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) In no particular order.... Mil NYY Colo San Diego Atlanta Houston Boston 2 or 3 others are toss ups. Our top 4 teams are a collective 40 or so under .500. I know, I know this means nothing, but if they were 40 or so over .500 everyone here would be raving, including me. Our first rounders have hurt us, not counting Burger, of course. Sox system is way better than Boston's right now. I think it's better than Milwaukees too and probably Houston
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) I don't see how we could catch the Phillies, but #2 remains a possibility. Anyone know the top three prospects in next year's draft? I know it's early, but it would be nice knowing if there is some elite positional talent, especially from the college ranks. Appears to be a strong class at the top but it's highlighted by high school players. High School: Brice Turang SS CA, Jarred Kelenic OF WI, Kumar Rocker RHP GA, Joe Gray OF MS, Tristan Casas 1B FL College: Brady Singer RHP Florida, Seth Beer 1B/LF Clemson, Luken Baker 1B TCU, Konnor Pilkington LHP Miss State http://m.mlb.com/news/article/236744566/ji...-10-projection/
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) All I see is a sad attempt to not have to pay him the new super-max contract after next year. Maybe so. They made the right decision to not pay that contract though.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) This is the type of deal the Bulls should be making - taking a salary dump. But the Bulls never take that kind of deal. It's amazing for the Pistons to add Bradley for nothing. I hate the f***ing Bulls. Not really. Bradley would help Bulls win games this year and needs a huge contract next offseason. Pass.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) The Bulls missed out on the Euro guard. He signed with LAC. They didn't miss out. They weren't interested according to multiple Bulls beats.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) Absolutely. Luis Gonzalez in CF leading off for Kanny with a 3-4-5 of Sheets (1B), Adolfo (RF), and Burger (3B). Thats a fun team.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Rick Hahn has the best job in America by far. So for about five years he can put the worst team imaginable on the field (LOL, cringe worthy rotation of Pelphrey, Miguel G, Holland, Shields) and be lauded and loved for it. "Good job Rick," Reinsdorf will say after the season, "you are doing a good job of losing and getting us top draft picks. Hope you can keep acquiring horrible players so we can lose even more games." Then in the meantime he trades the few good older players we have. Real difficult. Anybody could sit in an office and trade Eaton or Sale or Robertson or Q. Oh wait ... he hasn't even traded Robertson or Q yet in the supposed rebuild. So in conclusion, what a great great job Hahn has: Lose as many games as possible with the worst players you can assemble while working on trades that anybody could execute. Obviously Boston wanted Sale. So you get a list of their best position player hitting prospect, Moncada, real difficult to pull off. Sign a top guy like Robert. Everybody wanted him. Real difficult to pull off. Hahn can enjoy 4-5 more seasons of horrid baseball and be praised for it, cause it gets us a good draft pick. I hope Hahn is enjoying his easy high paying job, putting a loser on the field and fans not being mad but saying, "PLEASE LOSE MORE!" At least we now know that greg775 is actually Rick Morrissey.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) The all-star game this season does not determine homefield advantage in the WS. I am happy about this. The All-Star game is an exhibition game in which everybody should play if possible and it definitely should take on a festive atmosphere. It was stupid to make the game "matter" by danging as something as important as homefield advantage as the prize to the winner. The way to make the guys play hard and care more is to offer $500,000 per player on the winning team and $50,000 to each player on the losing team. That IMO would be better. But at least now the game is back to being a meaningless exhibition game, which it should be IMO. Do you agree? Holy s*** I agree with Greg
  22. QUOTE (cornball @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) Package him with Robertson to the Nats for Robles+ You'd likely get more for them separately and Robles is off the table for either guy.
  23. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Napoli was the comp he got on draft day. Hopefully he can be that with better defense and a longer career behind the plate. Napoli was an All-Star and one of the best offensive catchers in the league for the better part of a decade. If the White Sox get that out of Collins, or maybe even slightly better, it's a win. I think Brian McCann was actually his comp on draft day
  24. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) I think most people here severely overvalue what Kahnle could fetch in a trade. Give his short track record, his complete anonymity and the general volatility of relief pitchers, I would be shocked if the Sox got a single top 50 guy for him, let alone a package built around one. I think you just keep him then and let him close.
