QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) He was an overdraft to save dollars for later picks. He was projected to go out around #20 IIRC> The Cubs used the savings to draft Dylan Cease in round 5 as well as a few other high school pitchers.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) If I am not mistaken , if he is posted he cannot get big money right away. Many see the Yankees as front runners for Otani but the Yankees as of now can only offer around 4.65M in a signing bonus . plus the $20M posting fee to Otani's team . I know the White Sox have traded away some of their bonus pool. No one is sure how much. Realistically then Otani can sign with any team all within a few million of each other according to how much bonus pool money they have. My point being that even the Sox despite not looking at him should be in the hunt for him and the only way to possibly get him is to offer him the chance to be a starting pitcher and starting hitter which many clubs may not be willing to do. With the Sox basically having no payroll now it might be a mistake not to pursue him . It will boil down to his personal preference more than the money. Sure the Dodgers and Yankees may have the advantage being spotlight cities of MLB but I wouldn't rule out the opportunity to be what he wants to be as a motivating factor. The White Sox cannot pay him more than $300K. That's it. That's the rule. He's not coming here.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) These figures are all low....I don't see anyway he's signing for less than $20 million per year. Perhaps start with an offer of 6 years / $108 million with the intention of settling somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 years / $154 million. And you don't trade him.....I'd hate to see him enter the HOF wearing any other cap than the White Sox. WTF? That's crazy. He's having his first decent season and still has shortcomings. On one hand, he has a .368 wOBA and a wRC+ of 132. Solid season. He does have a crazy high .392 BABIP though. He's not a defender and only has 14 homers while being relegated to an OF corner. He's just always a guy that contending teams will be looking to replace in my opinion.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) So they went from what would have been a high 2nd round pick to a mid-range 2nd round pick + a useless player? Sweet moves Garpax The Bulls don't own their own 2018 or 2019 2nd round pick. They are eating Pondexter's contract in order to obtain New Orleans' 2018 2nd rounder. This is a good deal. It's ironic though that they traded their 2017 2nd for $3 million and now are eating $3 million plus on Pondexter's deal to acquire a 2nd round pick. -
After the Ti'Quan Forbes deal, the White Sox now have 11 players from mlbpipeline.com's draft top 200 #2 Carlos Rodon #25 Casey Gillespie #27 Spencer Adams #41 Michael Kopech #50 Ti'Quan Forbes #76 Dylan Cease #93 Jace Fry #98 Evan Skoug #108 Tate Blackman #163 Alex Destino #190 Jake Peter

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) I absolutely hate this new rule...and really see zero point to it. But then again I think there should only be 3 preseason games max also. Be interesting if there's any WR talent out there available that could help with Cam going down. The guy that's a complete headscratcher to me is Dorial Green Beckham. I remember a couple years ago I wanted the Bears to draft Danny Shelton and take Beckham in the 2nd. This kid has more physical talent than 90% of the WRs in the league...but has completely wasted it being an asshat. Kid could be an All-Pro if he'd get his head outta his ass. Not sure he's worth taking a chance on...but there's no denying his talent. The problem was that teams don't really want to play anyone that is making their team in the 4th preseason game and with the roster at 75, there just aren't enough players. That's why they are doing it this way

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Michael Kopech will not break camp with the White Sox in 2018. No chance. I do think we see him pretty quickly though. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) I think this is a solidly .500 team this season. I don't believe that it is with their schedule and Mike Glennon at QB. Their defense is much improved but they won't be able to overcome subpar QB play

Does anyone in here watch Wentworth on netflix?

I predicted the Bears 53 man roster yesterday if anyone is interested: https://www.bagadonutssports.com/blog/2017/...cxtzjwwt476nnh5

I actually think Sanchez may get cut. he's not playing in preseason game #4 after playing 3 series total in the preseason. Seems like they don't want to risk an injury settlement. I bet they only carry 2 QB's.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 12:56 AM) Because they got an absolute trash return for a top 15 f***in' player, even for what they wanna do. That is why Bulls fan would have wanted this kind of package, minus thomas. The pick alone is a better return than the trash that they got, and very obviously makes so much more f***in' sense for what you CLEARLY point out they wanna do, potentially land Porter/Bagley. All reports were that this type of package wasn't available for Jimmy Butler from Boston though. People can hate the Butler return all they want. My point was that this Kyrie Irving deal has nothing to do with the Butler trade even though people want to make that the case. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) Sure bro. Collins' robust .220 batting average is why everybody has him ranked higher than Seby. The fact that you are using batting average to make your argument tells me everything I need to know

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Ken Rosenthal moves to The Athletic. They have quite the stable of writers there, will be interesting to see if people are willing to pay to read their stories. Their subscription is like $4 a month and it's the best content in the city. I always recommend it to everyone. I usually just have my wife or someone buy that and BA for me for Xmas or birthdays.

David Haugh kind of glossed over the issue in his story. He said that he asked for and received his release while that isn't technically true. He asked for his release and then went AWOL. Hostetler was on the radio last week and said that Nick Capra and Buddy Bell gave Delmonico his last chance. He made it sound like other teams likely weren't going to give him a chance because he left the Brewers in the fashion that he did. Credit to Delmonico for working through his issues and credit to Bell and Capra for taking the chance on a guy with some upside.

That's a solid deal for Leno. Get out in front of the contract year and lock him up for his prime. That's not much $$ and they put some of it in this season and saved in future years. That's basically Right Tackle $$. Good deal.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) If I was a cavs fan the last thing I'd want them to do is use a top 5 pick on a nba-ready lower ceiling player just because it fit our window better. If that's the case, trade the pick for a player that is a more sure thing. If LeBRon leaves after season, they could likely trade Love and move IT in a S&T if they wanted to rebuild as well. -
2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think this is actually solid for both teams. Cleveland did very well getting this much for Kyrie when they basically had to move him. IT and Crowder makes it so they are still the favorite in the East. They may lose LeBron and Thomas after the season but they'll have a high pick and assets to move toward a rebuild if they wanted. From Boston's end, they get 2 years of Kyrie and it's worth it if he re-signs (not sure if that's likely) in Boston. They set themselves up for the future and they absolutely didn't want to pay IT $200 million. As far as the Bulls are concerned, this has nothing to do with Butler. These deals aren't mutually exclusive even though people keep bringing them up in the same context. The Bulls likely wanted this year's pick for Butler. I would have insisted on a pick in this year's draft as well. The Celtics love Jayson Tatum and weren't willing to do that. Why would anyone want this package for Butler? The Bulls have no need for Isaiah Thomas. They are trying to lose as many games as possible. The plan involves possibly landing Michael Porter Jr or Marvin Bagley III. That's the silver lining in the Bulls deal. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Definitely think he can be a TOR guy, just not getting to the SouthSide as fast as Giolito, Kopech, Lopez, or Hansen...Cease, Dunning, Adams, Guerrero, Stephens, Clarkin may all very well be starters in The Show Dane Dunning doesn't project as a top of the rotation guy

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) It's safe to say the league has figured him out. DFA him. There are still people that don't think Abreu is good. I understand that it's 1B and he's not a superstar but he's slashing .299/.348/.538. He's on pace for another 30 homer season with a wRC+ of 132 which is 2nd best in his career and a .371 wOBA.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Hahn is lucky he didn't get fired after last season In Keith Law's most recent chat, he said that if Tatis ever actually played for the White Sox, they likely wouldn't have ever traded him. He never even played on the Sox DSL team.
