2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 05:06 AM) Jim Callis was on Garfien's podcast and basically said the top three in the 2018 Draft after the summer were: Turang, Singer and Hankins. Callis did not talk a lot about the players individually, but did not seem to think there was another college pitcher on/near Singer's level. Mentioned Shane McClanahan from South Florida and Casey Mize from Auburn, but noted that McClanahan had already had TJ and Mize has had to be shut down due to fatigue multiple times already. If Sox are picking top 3, it's probably a HS bat IMO. I wouldn't be opposed to taking Hankins though. That dude is a stud.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) If you're looking for respectable area rankings, Edgy is the man. http://www.csnchicago.com/preps-talk/edgy-...nkings-week-4-0 I'm a northern area guy so hard for me to answer who's in the south burbs. I think Lincoln Way East is the best team in the South Suburbs.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Miami and the Lakers did get Shaq. As long as the money is anywhere near equal, you can cross off at least 20 NBA teams that would ever be able to land a free agent that big. Something does need to be done to make teams at least a little less motivated to be so horrendous. Being as bad as possible shouldn't be automatically rewarded. Unfortunately, it is. There shouldn't be a salary cap for players leaving a city. For example, New Orleans should be able to pay Anthony Davis $300 million if it wants to while other teams pay a max of like whatever the max is. This should also not count against their cap somehow. It's maybe one way of getting guys to stay. They are trying this with the All NBA team contract escalators right now. It could be taken further.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) NBA needs to do it. Tanking is bad for sports. It's really hard in that sport to get better without high draft picks though. Like really, really hard.

Reverse Standings Thread
I think the White Sox finish 7-12 over their last 19 games. That puts them at 64-98. That should lock up the 3rd pick in the draft.

Jose Abreu with 1st Sox cycle in 17 years
Jose Abreu has been awesome this year. He's hitting .302/.353/.556. His .255 ISO is highest it's been since his first season. OPS+ of 140, wOBA of .378, wRC+ of 138. He's accumulated 3.5 fWAR and 3.9 bWAR. He's a bad defender. He's having a really good season though. He's been the 6th best 1B in baseball this season. The only guy that's been better in the AL is Eric Hosmer. Hosmer is putting up a .328/.393/.517 with a .387 wOBA and 141 wRC+. He's sporting an abnormally high .365 BABIP still though and his ISO is 60 points lower than Jose's.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
Be nervous if you want. He's going to take a bit because he's so raw still. He does have a 116 wRC+ vs RHP. I would consider just having him hit left-handed permanently however.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Recent BA article on Hankins. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/ethan...Y5IGrJuoAjgF.97 While prep pitcher isn't my preferred selection for the White Sox, kid throws some filth. Nobody ever wants to draft HS pitchers because of the risk involved but Hankins and Rocker both look ridiculous. Kopech, Giolito and Cease were all HS pitchers. 2/3 did have TJS already though.

Sox not in teams watching Otani
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Hey maybe there was an ulterior motive to giving Anderson that contract. Call it the Otani Plan. It sets a precedent that you can extend a players contract with minimal servicetime where the league didn't step in and void it. I know I am delusional but just because the most the Sox can offer is $300K shouldn't mean they shouldn't pursue their 1% shot at him. Life is often stranger than fiction. Ya never know. Teams aren't allowed to just rip up Otani's deal and extend him. It's a direct circumvention of the CBA. He can get somewhere between 8-10 milion from someone. It won't be the White Sox though

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) He was an overdraft to save dollars for later picks. He was projected to go out around #20 IIRC> The Cubs used the savings to draft Dylan Cease in round 5 as well as a few other high school pitchers.

Sox not in teams watching Otani
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) If I am not mistaken , if he is posted he cannot get big money right away. Many see the Yankees as front runners for Otani but the Yankees as of now can only offer around 4.65M in a signing bonus . plus the $20M posting fee to Otani's team . I know the White Sox have traded away some of their bonus pool. No one is sure how much. Realistically then Otani can sign with any team all within a few million of each other according to how much bonus pool money they have. My point being that even the Sox despite not looking at him should be in the hunt for him and the only way to possibly get him is to offer him the chance to be a starting pitcher and starting hitter which many clubs may not be willing to do. With the Sox basically having no payroll now it might be a mistake not to pursue him . It will boil down to his personal preference more than the money. Sure the Dodgers and Yankees may have the advantage being spotlight cities of MLB but I wouldn't rule out the opportunity to be what he wants to be as a motivating factor. The White Sox cannot pay him more than $300K. That's it. That's the rule. He's not coming here.

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) These figures are all low....I don't see anyway he's signing for less than $20 million per year. Perhaps start with an offer of 6 years / $108 million with the intention of settling somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 years / $154 million. And you don't trade him.....I'd hate to see him enter the HOF wearing any other cap than the White Sox. WTF? That's crazy. He's having his first decent season and still has shortcomings. On one hand, he has a .368 wOBA and a wRC+ of 132. Solid season. He does have a crazy high .392 BABIP though. He's not a defender and only has 14 homers while being relegated to an OF corner. He's just always a guy that contending teams will be looking to replace in my opinion.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) So they went from what would have been a high 2nd round pick to a mid-range 2nd round pick + a useless player? Sweet moves Garpax The Bulls don't own their own 2018 or 2019 2nd round pick. They are eating Pondexter's contract in order to obtain New Orleans' 2018 2nd rounder. This is a good deal. It's ironic though that they traded their 2017 2nd for $3 million and now are eating $3 million plus on Pondexter's deal to acquire a 2nd round pick.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) I absolutely hate this new rule...and really see zero point to it. But then again I think there should only be 3 preseason games max also. Be interesting if there's any WR talent out there available that could help with Cam going down. The guy that's a complete headscratcher to me is Dorial Green Beckham. I remember a couple years ago I wanted the Bears to draft Danny Shelton and take Beckham in the 2nd. This kid has more physical talent than 90% of the WRs in the league...but has completely wasted it being an asshat. Kid could be an All-Pro if he'd get his head outta his ass. Not sure he's worth taking a chance on...but there's no denying his talent. The problem was that teams don't really want to play anyone that is making their team in the 4th preseason game and with the roster at 75, there just aren't enough players. That's why they are doing it this way

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
Michael Kopech will not break camp with the White Sox in 2018. No chance. I do think we see him pretty quickly though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) I think this is a solidly .500 team this season. I don't believe that it is with their schedule and Mike Glennon at QB. Their defense is much improved but they won't be able to overcome subpar QB play

I actually think Sanchez may get cut. he's not playing in preseason game #4 after playing 3 series total in the preseason. Seems like they don't want to risk an injury settlement. I bet they only carry 2 QB's.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 12:56 AM) Because they got an absolute trash return for a top 15 f***in' player, even for what they wanna do. That is why Bulls fan would have wanted this kind of package, minus thomas. The pick alone is a better return than the trash that they got, and very obviously makes so much more f***in' sense for what you CLEARLY point out they wanna do, potentially land Porter/Bagley. All reports were that this type of package wasn't available for Jimmy Butler from Boston though. People can hate the Butler return all they want. My point was that this Kyrie Irving deal has nothing to do with the Butler trade even though people want to make that the case.
