Baseball America Top 30 White Sox Prospects
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 12:41 PM) Some interesting stuff in there. First would be Puckett, I don't anyone else is even close to that high on him. They said "probably a back end starter" but he has a plus changeup and some scouts think he can add more velocity.

Baseball America Top 30 White Sox Prospects
My BA handbook came in the mail last night. The White Sox top 30 is interesting. There are a bunch of relievers and they apparently love the 2017 draft. Sox are ranked as the #4 system in baseball. 1. Eloy Jimenez OF 2. Michael Kopech RHP 3. Alec Hansen RHP 4. Luis Robert OF 5. Dane Dunning RHP 6. Zack Collins C 7. Jake Burger 3B 8. Blake Rutherford OF 9. Gavin Sheets 1B 10. Dylan Cease RHP 11. Zack Burdi RHP 12. Spencer Adams RHP 13. Carson Fulmer RHP 14. Luis Gonzalez OF 15. AJ Puckett RHP 16. Jordan Stephens RHP 17. Micker Adolfo OF 18. Luis Alexander Basabe OF 19. Lincoln Henzman RHP 20. Thyago Vieira RHP 21. Alex Call OF 22. Ian Clarkin LHP 23. Ian Hamilton RHP 24. Tyler Johnson RHP 25. Jordan Guerrero LHP 26. Bernardo Flores LHP 27. Tito Polo OF 28. Lenyn Sosa SS 29. Seby Zavala C 30. Connor Walsh RHP 31. Yeyson Yrizarri SS

Cold Stove - Free Agents Still on the table
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 11:59 AM) There's Mike Moustakas. He hit 38 bombs last year but his OBP and only average defense drag down his WAR.I anticipate a huge hole needing to be filled when the Sox can't outbid everyone of Machado, Donaldson or Arenado and I'm not sure Donaldson would be a good idea at his age or if Machado will decide not to be a SS. Moustakas would fill that LH power void and fill that huge hole at 3rd base. Many here don't like him since we are still supposedly 2 years away from 2020 but even then he will be 31 , Donaldson 34. I have seen people saying Donaldson will age well while but I don't see how anyone can derive that while at the same time dismissing Moustakas. Miore than likely the Sox won't sign Moose and probably take their chances on Yolmer, Davidson, Burger or Machado and Arenado but those options seem far fetched in my mind . I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell the Sox outbid everyone for the huge names out there and unless Davidson can show us way more than he has so far or Yolmer can hit 25 bombs a year 3rd base will be a glaring hole. Mike Moustakas isn't very good and the Sox won't be interested in forfeiting a top 45 draft pick and $2 million in draft bonus pool space to sign him to play for a non-contender. It just doesn't make any sense at this point.

OD Roster Predictions: Centerfield
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 09:46 AM) My odds. Engel - Even money Garcia -150 Tilson -250 Cordell -300 Field 10:1 Personally I think they WANT Engel to win the job, as his defense is pretty untouchable in general. He is a 75 to 80 defender in CF, and that is a big help to a very young pitching staff. I think it is his job to lose at this point. Hopefully his work in the off season at the plate pays off and he can also hit a respectable amount to still be starting at the end of the year. He was one of the very worst players in baseball last year though. I personally don't even know if he hits well enough to be a 4th OF. He had a 37 wRC+ last year. 37.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 10:11 AM) Lauri had a really strong game in the post. His 3 ball isn't falling right now and it was nice to see them get the ball to them down low. Didn't see the 4th so can't comment on that, but for 1st 3 quarter Lauri played really well. Lavine is explosive and is getting better every night. I truly believe the NBA should find a way to rig the lottery to reward the Bulls. Absolute sick what a lot of teams do. Yes, you can tank and that is fine and good, but going out of your way to sit "healthy" players is just crappy for the sport. I'm a fan of the NBA and what teams are doing is just bad for the league. What those teams are doing is setting themselves up in best way possible to win that next win title whenever it is though. They have no obligation to the league. They have an obligation to their fans. Taking a step back to take two steps forward per se.

Fangraphs T100
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 10:46 AM) You know what's really interesting is McDaniel and Longehagen made a point to devalue pitching overall in their top 100, and still ranked Burdi in it. They must really really like his stuff. Eric Longenhagen @longenhagen Following Following @longenhagen More Replying to @FutureSox We decided the stuff was too good to leave him off. @FutureSox Replying to @longenhagen We've seen him hit 102 in person with a devastating SL. No doubt his 2-pitch punch is huge. Just pointing out his ranking as being unusual is all. He's got high end, high leverage reliever ceiling for sure. @longenhagen We think the changeup is also bonkers 0 replies 1 retweet 12 likes

OD Roster Predictions: The Bullpen
QUOTE (Dubzinski rules @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 08:22 AM) I'm going to assume that Jones starts the year on the DL and I too think the Sox carry 13 pitchers (8 relievers) in order to protect their young starters. CL- Soria RH SU- Minaya LH SU- Avilan Middle- Cedeno, Infante, Rondon, Farquar, and Gomez They'll need to open 3 spots on the 40 man by pushing Rodon to the 60 day and releasing K. Smith and whichever of Cordell,Tilson, or Palka doensn't make the OD roster. My thoughts are that the Sox will attempt to save as many young pitchers with options at AAA while they try to turn some of the above retreads into tradeable assets. With the plethora of free agents still unsigned I'm guessing that most of their 40 man releases will clear waivers and go to Charlotte. Indications at Soxfest were that Jones is ready to go.

Yu Darvish to Cubs
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 03:50 PM) Arrieta does - the Cubs will get a pick back if he signs elsewhere. And that's a silly concept anyway. If the Cubs are that worried about a 2nd or 3rd round pick that they're going after a pitcher that they like less, then their priorities are totally screwed up. They went after Darvish because they wanted starting pitching help and they picked the pitcher they preferred. Whatever their reason was, they seriously preferred darvish to Arrieta. Yes they did. I don't think it hurts that they now have 4 picks on Night 1 of the draft.

Yu Darvish to Cubs
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 02:24 PM) I think they just value the extra pick/draft flexibility or something. Darvish doesn't have draft compensation attached to him.

Yu Darvish to Cubs
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 06:15 AM) Dodgers have never had problems adding players they wanted despite those tax issues. If they wanted him he would have been there This isn't true. Dodgers need to get under $197 million. They paid the luxury tax last year. By not paying it this year their tax bill resets. They will target players in 2019 free agency (Kershaw, Harper, Machado). They'll be going way over the luxury tax threshold but will only pay a 20% tax on the overage to do so. If they brought back Darvish this year and then spent heavily again next year, they'd be paying a 50% tax on the overage. It truly is about money and not wanting to be over the tax line. Yankees, Nationals and Giants are trying to do the same

OD Roster Predictions: The Bullpen
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 03:37 PM) Now that we’re two days away from pitchers & catchers reporting to Spring Training, I thought it would be fun to do some Opening Day roster predictions. We’ll start with the bullpen, which figures to be one of the more interesting areas in terms of competition. The rules are simple: list the guys who will be in our opening day bullpen and what role they will serve (CL, SU, MR, LR). CL: Nate Jones SU: Joakim Soria RHP: Jeanmar Gomez RHP: Juan Minaya RHP: Gregory Infante RHP: Danny Farquhar LHP: Luis Avilan LHP: Xavier Cedeno

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS
Joe Brand who has been the Kane County Cougars PBP guy since 2014 has been added to WGN Weekend Sports lineup as well as former Cubs and Padres broadcaster Andy Masur. I wonder if either of these two guys will be part of White Sox baseball? It would be ideal in my opinion. Have one of them become the PBP guy next to Farmer or DJ as the analyst. The other can be the Pre/Post Game host. I'd love for them to find a young PBP guy for radio broadcast.

White Sox interested in adding a DH
QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 12:27 AM) I mean I'd love for them to bring a bunch of guys on pillow deals guys like Cargo, Morrison, and Tillman. Some people are focused on tanking and sure whatever but you can get better prospects via trade. Plus it's more interesting to watch real MLB players. It's one thing to not sign a veteran stop gap because you are worried about blocking them but are we really worried about blocking Davidson at DH? Moving shields to the bullpen? The Sox don't really care what you or I think is more interesting though. That doesn't matter. They need to find players that could be on their next playoff team that we aren't expecting. Guys like Chris Taylor and Marwin Gonzalez weren't expected. The Sox should be playing Leury, Tilson, Cordell, Palka etc to see if someone is decent and worth keeping around.

White Sox interested in adding a DH
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 01:58 PM) If the 2nd round pick turns out to be as good as Mike Moustakas, you would be pretty happy with it. I think Boras being his agent kills it all, but I think he would make a lot of sense at a Frazier like discount. The Sox need some LH punch, and if you signed him for a few years, eventually he could probably move to 1B if Abreu hits the road. He would be set up pretty well at GRP. You could have just brought back Todd Frazier who has been the better baseball player. He's not left-handed but that Frazier deal was a steal.

Non-roster invitees
Rob Scahill has like a 15% K rate for his career. He throws 94-95 but doesn't really do much else well. I think he's probably organizational depth at Charlotte. Cedeno, Rondon and Gomez have a much better chance at making the team IMO.

Non-roster invitees
I wrote about the bullpen options yesterday that the Sox have signed if anyone is interested: https://theloopsports.com/2018/02/07/white-...reinforcements/

White Sox interested in adding a DH
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 01:08 PM) you only lose the pick if you sign him to greater 50 million That's not true. You lose the pick regardless. KC gets a 1st rounder if he signs a deal over $50 million. They get a 2nd rounder if not.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
Bulls were going to waive Jameer Nelson. Instead of that, they get to swap 2nd rounders with Detroit in 2022 if Detroit is worse than the Bulls at the time. I've actually seen people upset about the pick swap.

Keith Law White Sox System Write-Up
QUOTE (Anderdale @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 02:06 PM) If that's the case why even put stock into him? Nobody outside of the White Sox has said definitively that he can stay at catcher. I'm high on the offensive profile but he needs to stay at C for it not to be fairly ordinary

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 07:41 PM) On paper this is a miserable bullpen. Nate and Soria are very bad and they are the best of the bunch. Sign Holland or lose 105 games They aren't going to lose 105 games. I'm not going to argue with you because your points are always the same but I will tell you why Holland isn't happening. The Sox would have to pay Holland a lot of money. They'd also have to forfeit the 45th or so pick in the draft and the slot money that goes with him to do it. The Sox are rebuilding. That would be incredibly short-sighted decision making and that's why it won't happen. Holland also doesn't really move the meter for this team. They can win 70-75 with or without him.

White Sox Bullpen Battle
I actually think the bullpen is decent to start the year. They'll take a big chunk out of it though by dealing players. If Nate Jones is healthy, he'll bring back a lot in a deal. Soria, Avilan and some of these NRI's could be very tradeable as well. White Sox have a lot of relief pitching prospects as well that could be seen as high leverage types. This is exactly what they should be doing right now.

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 03:42 PM) This could turn out to be the worse bullpen in the history of the franchise. Trading David Robertson was nuts. I think they've had worse bullpens in compete years honestly

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) I think only one of Gomez and Rondon make it to start, and they let Infante start out again. Maybe. I believe Infante is older than both of those guys though as well. I guess that doesn't really matter though.

Keith Law White Sox System Write-Up
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:15 PM) I posted this elsewhere but interesting nonetheless, Baseball America said that Zevala was actually behind Collins in catching ability. Now that conflicts with Futuresox who said he's average, but fair to say that for as much as we talk about the work collins needs to do, so does Seby. Collins is also younger. Some similar stats this year though. Collins at High A: 130 wRC+, .367 wOBA Collins at AA: 166 wRC+, .414 wOBA 19 homers Zavala at A: 139 wRC+, .376 wOBA Zavala at High A: 145 wRC+, .387 wOBA 21 homers It will be interesting to see them both at Birmingham together.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:02 PM) I didn't realize until just now that Asik has a 2019/2020 player option that he's likely to pick up. Only $4 million guaranteed in 2019/2020. They'll have to pay him next year. Not the year after though.
