  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 06:33 AM) Well, I didn't see that elimination result coming. Me neither. Thought Laurel would dominate. Camilla should edge over Nicole and Trashley
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Different since 2012? I have my doubts When is the last time the White Sox took a high school position player and successfully got him to the major leagues? Trayce Thompson?
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) I still think we draft a QB in the 1st round. So do I. Too much smoke. Leming has thought so all along. Greg Gabriel, Moon Mullin, and Jim Miller all have them taking DeShaun Watson at #3.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Thanks. Was it known months in advance that they had agreements in place prior to the J2 signing periods? I can't remember. Yeah. Typically the first wave gets announced in late February. Here's a mini timeline: Robert was rumored as next big thing. Hahn and Marco Paddy talked about how they'd be active in July 2nd period that starts this coming July. I assumed that if Robert was cleared in this timeframe, the Sox wouldn't be able to sign him because they would be reneging on rumored agreements for next period. Then the Sox were mentioned as a team to watch for Robert. In late February, Ben Badler wrote an article talking about a lot of the top guys for this coming July 2nd Period. The White Sox aren't linked to any of them. If Robert were cleared in next period, Sox could sign him for $8.3 million and use majority of their pool. If he's cleared sooner, they can pay him anything but have to pay a 100% tax and can't sign anyone in the next period which starts on July 2. Foregoing the next period ins't that big of a deal though because they don't have agreements with top guys anyway. Make sense?
  5. This doesn't change anything. He was always likely to be cleared in this current period. It's tough for MLB to justify holding him out until J2 because he's established residency. The Sox have no excuse not to get him if they want him. They should be able to outspend San Diego, Houston, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. They also don't have any agreements for top players in next period which tells me they will be all in on this guy. If they miss on him, and then don't have agreements with guys for upcoming J2 period, they've really botched this thing. I think they are one of the primary contenders for him like Badler confirmed on twitter today.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Cain is a really good player, but I'd be hesitant to sign a player who will be 32 years old next April to a long term deal He likely has a couple quality seasons left before he goes into decline and it's generally not worth paying top dollar for that I meant that he'd someone this year as a rental.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) I don't see KC trading Duffy. Maybe naive but I think that org will try to hunker down with what they have. Duffy signed a 5 year extension with them. My guess is that they sign Hosmer and let Cain, Moustakas, and Escobar walk or trade them at the deadline. Cain would be a big addition for someone.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Who is Robert's pro comp? What are the chances the Sox sign him? Yes I know I could look but 15 pages is a s***load He's barely a prospect and Sox don't have any chance at signing him. Carry on.
  9. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) True enough, but Avi's numbers since 8/1/16 are terrific. I don't believe there's any carryover from year to year. I don't factor in spring training stats because I think they are meaningless so it's tough for me to date back to last year as well.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Avi and Davidson turning into even just semi-productive players goes a long way for a rebuild. I would still bet on neither player being on the next good Sox team.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Although it's likely just wishful thinking, my hope is that Avi and Davidson continue to perform well enough to accelerate the rebuild. If that happens, with Quintana remaining part of the rotation until 2021, the Sox could be competitive sooner than we think. I think Avi and Davidson are huge keys in that equation. Of course they aren't going to continue on their current torrid paces, but if they become key contributors going forward, with Moncada coming, the Sox wouldn't have that many holes to fill. Without a couple of established, solid starters, that accelerated rebuild would be very difficult. I love Kopech and Lopez, and am hopeful for Giolito, but counting on all of them is unrealistic. Keeping Q makes zero sense. He'll be in his early thirties in need of another large contract by the time the Sox are good again. They also need the pieces acquired for him to add to the mix.
  12. This is interesting stuff on Giolito: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/comm...AB8sTHxRs1K5.97
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I think Happ's arm is average or a tick better but not sure about his defense. According to the top 100, Happ looks destined for LF. If we can survive Melky in LF I'm sure Happ would be just fine. His bat and eye are what I'm after. Agree about Davidson and Delmonico. Both should be 1B/DH. I like Saladino and he's fine for third base, I just like Candelerio's age, SH bat and potential for 20HR+ at the 3B position. One thing for sure, Happ and Candelerio both are hot in Iowa right now. Cubs may end up looking to trade Schwarber for pitching and call up Happ. I don't count on the Sox and cubs actually making a trade but it is interesting to talk about because the teams match up so well for a trade. I'm reading Verducci's Cubs book right now and I'd be stunned if they traded Schwarber for anything. Theo loves him. He's their LF forever in my opinion.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Probably not a great sign that I dread Guolito starts rather than looking forward to them. The gun readings are just too depressing, at least he's been pitching same day as Dunning to soften the blow. The Charlotte gun was way off in his last start but yeah he's like 93-94 now
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) All you have to do is read the Cubs catch all thread on this page to know the unhealthy obsession many Sox fans have with the Cubs... and that is the diehards. The Joe Average guys are even worse about it. I don't associate with idiots enough I guess. Cubs are just another team to me. This s*** ended when I became an adult and 2005 was kind of the end of it all.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Yeah, the Cubs would be ideal with their positional prospects, and the guys that are blocked, but I just can't see that happening. Too much off of the field pressures. Joe SoxFan would have a meltdown if Q won the Cubs a World Series. You think so? I don't think it matters. Same people you are talking about where the people being mentioned when it was said "Sox can never rebuild". Most people I've seen have been completely behind the rebuild. If Q brought back Ian Happ and Eloy Jimenez, I generally don't think the majority of Sox fans would care that was in Cubs rotation. I'd actually like it better because I like watching Q pitch and he'd be on locally.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) All I am saying is if you go back and read Keith Law when KW was in charge, (and I am not exactly a KW fan myself) there is no way you can come to a conclusion he was a neutral observer. I think it has changed a bit since Hahn has taken over, but there still seems to be something there. I think his ranking of Tatis was based on it. I really think the guy has a problem with KW, whatever it is and that has influenced a lot of thinking regarding White Sox prospects over the years. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It's how they perform. Law's writing is for entertainment purposes only. It would be interesting to see of MLB, BA, BP, Law, and the others, whose rankings actually have been most accurate. It's probably too hard to measure. He doesn't like the way the Sox used to do business. I don't either. KW drafted "athletes" and JR didn't believe in spending on amateurs. That's how you end up with back end starters and former football players with no baseball skills. I blame much of the poor draft history on Jerry Reinsdorf. Law stated a couple years back that things changed under Hahn. I don't believe that he rates White Sox prospects differently because they are White Sox prospects. He loved Kopech regardless. He would have disliked Fulmer regardless of what team he was on. You are entitled to your opinion about Tatis but I think that thought process is nuts personally.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) He also said it after he had been successful in the major leagues. Good thing Bauman was handling that draft for the White Sox and not the immortal Keith Law. When did I call him immortal? I sense an edginess that I don't really find warranted.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Law was the guy that said Sale would be a future reliever. LMAO. He did. He said it before he was drafted too though. It wasn't like he loved Chris Sale and then changed his mind after the Sox drafted him. That's how people act.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Definitely. He seems to really be taking to the sox org's treatment of him. He has the same pitching coach that he really took to in Zaleski.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) In general he ranks potential higher. In Moncada's case he flopped in the MLB debut. Kopech still hasn't proven anything but he goes by what he could be. He likes to sensationalize the potential which is what people who follow the minors like. He was the low guy on Moncada prior to his big league time.
  22. Charlotte Knights vs Durham Bulls (7:05 ET) Carson Fulmer pitching Montgomery at Birmingham (7:05 CT) Jordan Guerrero pitching Winston Salem vs Down East Zach Thompson pitching Kannapolis vs Rome Alec Hansen is going for Kannapolis vs Rome right now. 3 IP 7 K 1BB 2H. Intimidators up 1-0. RBI Double for Fisher
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Who could blame them. No way I'd go HS pitcher #1 after the 2014 draft. I'd take Greene. He's capable of being a top 10 pick at SS too.
  24. I'm waiting for brett05 to chime in on this topic.
