Prospect Focus: Alec Hansen, an in-person report
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good stuff here. -
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) I agree Hiura will not be the BPA at 11 regardless of who goes in front of him, but while I am typically not a fan of the underslot type picks, I think it would be worth looking into if the Sox believe in Hiura's bat. That is all assuming, of course, Smith, Haseley, Beck and Kendall are all gone, and the Sox agree a high floor hitter is more valuable in their circumstance than arms like Gore or Faedo. I don't think Sox would pass on Gore under any circumstances and I could see Faedo as well honestly. Pitcher, hitter, doesn't matter. Take the best player.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) BA article on Keston Hiura. If Haseley, Smith, Lewis and Beck are all off the board at 11, what would you think about reaching for Hiura instead of taking a pitcher? He may not technically be the BPA at that point, but he's about as sure of a thing as there is as a hitter, and I'm not overly concerned that he won't be able to play competent defense when healthy. I think he might be more valuable to the organization at that point than a projectable arm. I have no idea what position Hiura will play. There's also not really a scenario in which he's the BPA. Lets pretend that Hunter Greene, Brendan McKay, Kyle Wright, Royce Lewis and JB Bukauskus will be gone no matter what. That still leaves 2 of: Mackenzie Gore, Pavin Smith, Adam Haseley, Austin Beck, Jeren kendall, Jordon Adell, and Alex Faedo for the Sox to choose from. I didn't even mention HS LHP DL Hall or RHP Shane Baz either and both would be legit options. Sox are in pretty good shape.

It's still way too early to make determinations on Giolito. Fegan, Bilek, and multiple others had good stuff on him last night but I can't tweet right now. Giolito said the results are trash basically but he's trying to figure things out and feels positively about the changes made. From watching his starts this year, it's all command. His stuff is plenty good enough. The Curveball and changeup are still good. He can live 93-95 MPH but he's having issues commanding everything and he's struggling to repeat his delivery. He's 22 years old. Writing him off is very short-sighted. He will be probably be in Charlotte for the rest of the year and that's fine. https://theathletic.com/59236/2017/05/09/lu...e-yoan-moncada/

New Top 30 INTL Prospects List out from MLB
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) It is hard to quantify what dollars mean this year until we see the new system in action. There are going to be teams who have to turn away former agreements because they won't be able to sign the class they had thought they were going to be able to sign. Others will be able to sign more people than they thought. 27/30 of the perceived top guys have agreements. If the Sox weren't in on Robert, I would expect to see their name attached to some of that top 30. Especially while rebuilding and being giving the ability to spend more $$. -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) On Footlocker's website Lebron's go for $100-175. It would be so awesome if this Kardashian-clone goes undrafted. Lonzo Ball? He's going top 3.

New Top 30 INTL Prospects List out from MLB
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) This is the White Sox we're talking about. They'd just as happy to sign a bunch of kids in the top 30-100 range and hope more than a few of them breakout. In fact I'd say 70% chance they go that route, 20% go all out for Robert, and 10% for Otani. They are going all out for Robert. This has been reported by multiple outlets. -
New Top 30 INTL Prospects List out from MLB
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) I think last year they signed #31, #35, and #38, or something like that. They did spend all but about a million dollars during that. They didn't have $4.75 million to spend last year though. They also didn't have the capabilities of spending $8 million like they do now. -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) I think he could be pretty good, he does tend to mumble and trail off a bit thought so we'll see how that works. But 3 man booths are not my favorite. Spiegel said this morning that he nailed his audition at FOX. Watched every Lynch/Burkhardt game from last year and knew all of the players on every team. Was very insightful and prepared apparently.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Cutler seems like he would be awful in the booth. Hey Jay what did you think of that play? Uh, I don't know. Whatever. He'll be fantastic at it. His radio show was always great. The real Cutler and the out of town narrative of the Opinionless DBag couldn't be further from truth. I think he's more likely to be honest than a lot of recent former players as well.

New Top 30 INTL Prospects List out from MLB
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
27 of the top 30 are committed already. None of them are committed to White Sox and that's another sign that Luis Robert is a very real possibility. If they miss on him, they are pretty much out of the market in 2017-2018. It would be really disappointing. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Look at Durant's rookie year numbers. Not related, but PG's usually struggle (even the best) their rookie year. It is why if I were the Bulls I'd be hounding the Lakers to grab Russell and see if you can make him work. His numbers (compared to other good / young PG's) are really really good. Heck, look how long it took Wall to really emerge. Russell in a trade for Butler you mean, right?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) At the risk of being quoted out of context and being buried by different groups, I was intrigued by this and would like to say Christians and especially Catholics are the only group that everybody is comfortable ridiculing/bashing. Guys like Maher will rail against believers for an entire episode and comics make fun of the idea of God. But it's the Christians/Catholics who get made fun of. The other religions that believe in deities are off the hook. You criticize certain religions you'd be booed/heckled, maybe fired. Catholics? Go for it. I remind everybody that Obama believed in God; Hillary believed in God, but Democrats don't want to talk about that. I even had one person say Hillary knows there is no God but acted like she was a believer to get votes. Some of the more vocal non God people who happen to be liberals don't even like to think their beloved Hillary/Obama/others believe in something so ridiculous as God. So they don't even want to think about it. So I think the Republicans that are believers do take offense at the ridicule. You say Dems "embrace diversity," yeah, but many of them don't embrace those of us who are believers. They mock us freely, the idea that there is a God and priest jokes. p.s. Now in a couple weeks somebody will say I was complaining about Catholics being mocked when in truth I'm merely giving my take on somebody's post. I didn't start this, I'm responding. Maher makes fun of all religions quite equally. He's an atheist. He thinks they are all complete bulls***.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) There were a couple reports yesterday that Gar might be fired. I think WhiteSoxDave might have been the source of it. Either way, it seems that Paxson is winning back the power struggle from Gar (if it did exist), with his brother becoming more involved (which isn't a bad thing). I wonder if we'll see them bring in some new blood? That said, as we all know, they are in a pretty unique position, you either kind of take it one year at a time, while biding time for young players to develop (hoping you get a bit lucky) and tackling free agency, or you blow it all up. I don't really know that one is much better then the other, although it is probably more frustrating for many fans to be caught "in limbo". They are like choosing to be in basketball hell. It's quite fascinating the way they spin this all the time. They try to make the playoffs but then complain that picks in the 16-20 range don't produce difference makers.

Nate Jones to 10 Day DL (retro to May 1)
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Will the last healthy White Sox player please turn off the clubhouse lights before leaving to go on the DL? 7th Sox player (6th pitcher) currently on the DL. It's 2000-2001 all over again. So much for these guys staying healthy so they can be traded for something. Hahn today said it's "minor" and he should be pitching again "in a few weeks." Where have we heard THAT before this year? LOL. Rodon was moved to the 60 day DL because the report said the Sox feel it'll be at least June 1 before he can do a rehab assignment. Mark This isn't true. Hahn said he wouldn't be finished with rehab assignment by then. He's throwing off a mound. I think it's likely he goes on one in the next 10 days. He's eligible to return to Sox on 5/29. -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) Yeah, Hinrich was fine. But I think they were less willing to make that reasonable trade up for Wade knowing that they didn't really have a point guard (Crawford was pretty injury plagued at the time, it is amazing, I'd never have pegged him of all those players to be a 18 something year vet) Yep. I want to say it was Toronto at 4? Theyw anted Bulls pick at 7 plus Donyell Marshall and some other stuff. Bulls stood pat and thought they could get Wade at 7.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) I can't say that I remember a lot about the 02-03 season but I thought Williams looked like a bust. He had that really nice triple double game but couldn't shoot. yeah, blech, under 40% from the field. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willija03.html Williams started coming into his own in the 2nd half of the season. Was terrible in 1st half though.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I know the Rose injury gets a lot of attention as being franchise changing, but the Jay Williams injury isn't talked about enough. Not only did it cost them a #1 draft pick potentially coming into his own, I will swear to this day it pushed the team to select Hinrich to replace him after Wade went off of the board in front of them, and everything kind of fell into place after that. Yep. Having a core of Jay Williams/Dwyane Wade/Jamal Crawford/Eddy Curry/Tyson Chandler would have been nice at the time.

Nate Jones to 10 Day DL (retro to May 1)

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I would not have guessed Holmberg up before Luebke. Luebke isn't ready. He was in extended spring. -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) I've said it before and I've said it again but I firmly believe Krause was actually on verge of a very solid turnaround that Paxson got to ride the wave on. He really did acquire a crapton of assets that Paxson flipped into a bunch of those knicks picks and really only landed on Deng. Would really love to know if Krause would have been able to acquire Wade in 03 at the draft. Crawford/Wade/Chandler...then you have to get into alternative history where we still make the knicks trades... but potential for crawford/wade/deng/chandler core. Jay Williams was really good too. When Krause left they had Jay Williams, Curry, Chandler, and Crawford.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 4, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I think the reason the media thought the Sox got the best of that deal was because the media was behind about Giolito . The Nats and the Sox were both fully aware of his struggles. Since the Sox clearly trust their pitching coaches to fix problems they couldn't pass up 3 highly thought of pitchers even if the ranking of Giolito versus the reality of him misled many at 1st. I think it's because for some reason, Adam Eaton is criminally underrated. Something like that was always the price for Eaton and some even thought it wasn't enough.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) Paxson has been here for 14 years, Gar was hired around Tim Floyd Era but came into power in 2007/2008ish. If anyone thinks the Bulls will eventually get it right while Jerry (and now especially Michael who is best friends with Gar) is running the team, they're out of their damn mind. Paxson took over as GM in 2003. He has hired 5 coaches and they have won 5 playoff series. They've actually only won 5 playoff series since 98. Their drafting has also fallen off the cliff since Matt Lloyd left the organization. The Bulls have fewer scouts than most teams and a semblance of an analytics department. Paxson basically took the reigns back yesterday and I'd rather have him in power than Gar but it's still just meh. I do think there's a solid chance that Pax trades Butler at the draft though and restarts the franchise.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Though not a fred fan, they make it impossible to not side with any bulls coaches with how incredibly combative and openly critical they are. Like how every manager with a bad bullpen looks terrible, fred looks a lot worse when he has to plug and play 5 guards that have no business in NBA. Maybe a little harsh on grant, but not far off. They've made Fred Hoiberg a sympathetic figure. They want their young guys to play but their young guys all blow. They also want to make the playoffs while playing the s***ty young guys. They complain that it's hard to make a dramatic changes and then they say that help isn't coming because of where they pick in the draft. They choose that though. You are choosing to have the 16th pick every year. Nothing is changing until they stop making money. As long as fans continue to fill that place every night, this is what will happen. Bulls fans are getting everything they've asked for. They've shown over the years that the current "plan" is absolutely 100% good enough.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) I, too am trying to talk myself off the ledge of this potentially setting the Bears back another 5 years on top of the original 5. How are they set back 5 years? They aren't very good and might struggle on offense but they'll have a top 10 unit on defense. Jaye Howard would be a solid addition to an already good front 7. They have 4 new starters in the secondary. If Trubisky is good, this can turn around fast actually.
